Martin (the movie by George Romero)

Has anyone seen this but me? What a great weird movie. I didn't care for the shitty TV-quality cinematography (though I was watching a video) and the disturbingly gory violence (which I actually thought detracted from the "seriousness" of the movie, and for Romero, it's a pretty serious movie). But the acting, especially from the actor who played Martin and the actress who played his cousin, was top-notch, and it's an interesting take on the vampire legend (for those out of the loop, Martin is a vampire, but whether a vampire is a supernatural creature or a normal person with the psychological problem of needing to drink blood is left somewhat up in the air (though the movie leans pretty heavily towards the latter)). Anyways...

A better description of the plot here.

I just picked up the box yesterday at Amoeba. I think it was only like $3. I'd never heard of it so I passed on it.

Underrated. Underseen. Occasionally underexposed. (Unfortunately.)

I used to have it on tape. Its a weird little oddity that I could probably only watch once. Great ending.

yea this was p good; interesting that romero sez on the brief making-of that of what he cut down was a lot of overwritten vo/radio call-in stuff -- prob the right move but id be cool 2 hear more of that i was digging getting martins introspection and uncertainty

Romero's best

Ultimately it's second tier for me, but still great.

three years pass...

Saw this for the second time tonight, a faded print--pink and beige, pretty much--at a rep theatre. It's thoughtful and sometimes sad, but honestly, I find it tedious.
