Discuss 'The Human Stain' -- The Movie

Not crazy about the book, myself, but the movie is getting a lot of hate, often from Roth fans. It bear repeating that movie != book, and that directors have no obligation whatsoever to follow authors' wishes, or indeed authors' wishes as imagined by their fans.

Anthony Hopkins seems terribly wrong for the part, but I don't see why Nicole Kidman should be such a bad choice. Best character is the Vietnam veteran. If they made him the main character I'd be well up for this. But they probably haven't.

I liked the book, and I thought the movie sucked.

I quite liked the book but it was a big letdown after American Pastoral (the only other Roth novel I've read). I think I had a few problems with it, but the biggest one I can remember now is absurdly loaded anti-PC plotline (who would have said "Or are they spooks?" in regard to absentee students and mean "black people" by it? It wouldn't make any sense).

No interest in seeing Anthony Hamkins play it.

Yeah, it was funny how the supervillainess was a PC engl. lit prof. It was like "she deconstructs! she must be capable of inhuman evil!"

This movie ROCKED! It was like TOTALLY AWESOME! (sorry, I may not have seen it - the reviews were so lukewarm).
