Right Stevem stop pussyfooting and organise something.

One Tun, Goodge Street, from after work until the pub closes. I don't know what time the quiz starts, someone who's actually been will have to tell you that. Surely the combined branes of ILE could obliterate all competition?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

is this going to be a huge big ilx team or is it going to involve splitting into two teams as in like "ilx:the rivals"?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Either is good. Although last time we had competing teams my team came bottom of the ILX pile :(

Also the One Tun is a marvellous little boozer and worth a visit even if you're not quizzing it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm up for this!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies. YES!

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm in.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too. I like quiz.

alix (alix), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

possibly, not sure yet, I shouldn't really though as I'm poor

chris (chris), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

You might win some money Chris!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be there, if not on the ale.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't remember if its cash prize or not

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i should really phone them and check the quiz is definitely on also

sideshow stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh, absolutely...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I have never participated in a pub quiz in my life. As I know nothing, this is probably understandable.

Phoebe Dinsmore, Wednesday, 21 January 2004 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

i suggest at least two separate teams to spice up proceedings

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

unfortunately I won't be able to make this :(

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

but if we have two teams it's going to be like grade-school sports and i'll be the last to get picked after admitting i generally suck at UK trivia quizzes! maybe phoebe will get picked after me, actually, so that's ok.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Do they serve beer in these so-called "public houses"?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I think its more likely to be based on who you're drinking beer with at the exact time the team sheets are handed out ;)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, count me in. I'll suck since I'm a UK newbie, but whatever team I'm on will CLEAN UP once those Canadian-related questions start rollin' in...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

So I guess it's cheating if I bring my wi-fi laptop and Google everything, right?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

shoot, i might not be able to come after all. the 'grown ups' dean group in london is doing a concert of some kind that i should go to support. oh well, maybe i can do both.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Could well be in, along with Daniel (dancity) - together we are the 3-time reigning champs at the Social's monthly quiz !

darren (darren), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll see what my shifts are doing.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i will bring my uni challenge superskills (though not the zebra hair).

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Even though it makes me a mentalist I'm going to pretend that this FAP is really in honour of my birthday.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

toby's talk of zebra hair has inpired me to bring a 'gonk'

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Sign me up (NB a team of Caitlin & I once got 100% in a pub quiz)

(but I've lost it completely since then)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to know when it starts - I am having dinner with a cousin that evening, but she normally wants to get home reasonably early so I may still come along, albeit not too early.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

the zebra hair)

NOOOOOOOOOO! NEVER!

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 22 January 2004 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

BUMP!

I will bring rubbish Universally Challenged skeelz, but sadly no zebra hair. Which will please Anna? Anyway, see you chaps tomorrow.

p.s. I am kind of lurking here, don't particularly want to get fired again.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 26 January 2004 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

see for some reason when i saw this thread title last week i thought that 27th of january was like a month ago or something, because i am a menko.

i supose i could toddle along :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 January 2004 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

err what liz?

looking forward to this. anyone know what time the quiz starts?

toby (tsg20), Monday, 26 January 2004 10:05 (twenty-two years ago)

BUMP!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 January 2004 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

My Marx reading group has been rescheduled for next week, therefore I shall show up to this.

sgs (sgs), Monday, 26 January 2004 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

ah that makes sense, thanks steve.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

And Brannigans for all

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

(i was afeared that liz hadn't closed her italic tag, so i went and had a look at the source)

so can we have a team made up solely of ex-UC contestants?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, there's at least three of us.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm applying for this year.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Your intellectual weight* ph34rs m3, I might have to stick to drinking bouze instead of answering questions wrongly to grebt derision. I've watched University Challenge though! COME ON JESUS COLLEGE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

*hahahahaha yeah!

Sarah (starry), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I may come, if finances allow

chris (chris), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Was that finances or fiancees?

Pete (Pete), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

blimey, if only it was a quipping competition...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

which reminds me:

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

we need Team Names NOW - i can never think of a good one on the spot

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

why don't you phone ahead and ask them...

StatingthebleedingobviousSmile (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

why don't you.....phone ahead and ask them...

damn

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I might be there...

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

what did we have at the swimmer, Team Cheburashka was it? she couldnt say it, when read out

gareth (gareth), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Jealous of the fun night. (If Stevem gets a girlfriend, it will actually be somewhat of a relief!) But like I said, I'm going to a FAP in Queens, so nyeah neayh. And I *AM* going to a Northampton Dirty Dronerock FAP with Sonic Boom the day after I get back so double nyeah nyeah.

Why, 1ynch-B3ll, I'll get you for that, mutter mutter mutter...

(HOnestly, my mum has no idea what my social life in London is like. Random Internet lunatic? Wa-hey! Let's go to Spain! Or perhaps she thinks that English stalkers are going to be more polite than American ones. Hrmmm.)

the river fleet, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't worry about stepping on my toes Martin. I don't own the patent for quizes. Or indeed any of the wonderful foodstuff in Sweet Cred's extensive line-up.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

shame. you could make a killing.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

The Street Cred website misses the suckable lightsabre which RoXors my world.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

"suckable lightsabre" = what a redneck jedi tells his girlfriend/sister is in his pants.

I evidently have no dirty dronerock radar function. Dang, I knew I should have paid out for the extras.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I linger at this thing like a mysterious ghost?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

about the 'it's too organised' thing: won't this die a natural death eventually? i've seen stuff like this happen where a group gets really excited and says 'yeah, let's do this every week/month/whatever' and goes two or three times and then everyone stops. which is an ok thing. i'd be ok to go to several more quizzes, especially if i could make it in time to contribute.

people get bored with this kind of routine. except the cheese. five years after starting, still every thursday...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the big teams thing is just a function of their not setting team limits and there being no room to spread out. We were restricted to 4 on a team at the previous quiz, and got the first three places there. I suspect a T*m team of two could have probably won last night's quiz had they been our only attendees.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Whilst I like quizzes occassionally, I would prefer just to go to the pub and get drunk.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, I would rather just meet in the pub more often than not. Quizzes (and karaoke) make a nice change occasionally, but I wouldn't want them taking over.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

has there ever been a bingo FAP? the bingo place near my house has a big sign advertising free bingo on tuesdays. i've always wanted to try this out, but haven't been brave enough yet...

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 29 January 2004 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh, maybe it's time to quash the stereotypes and yell 'HOUSE!' in an entirely different context

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 January 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

And you can set Stevem up with one of the old dears!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 29 January 2004 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i have no idea what the demographic of this place is. i've never seen anyone come in or out. it's like willy wonka's factory. but, i'm guessing, without all the chocolate inside.

i'm sure there's a lady in there that would love stevem, though. although they might think his hair is too long and he looks like a young whippersnapper.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 29 January 2004 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Obviously when Colette turned up with a hot young woman I didn't dream of trying to compete with the likes of stevem, but if we are talking old women, I want fixing up!

Can we do this when Ronan is here next? I want to see him shouting 'house' and waving a glowstick.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 29 January 2004 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

"four to the floor - 44!"

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 29 January 2004 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

if someone gets all but one of the numbers i dare them to call out 'microhouse!'

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 January 2004 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Clickety-click house!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 29 January 2004 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

two fat ladies...over there

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 January 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

my friends joined an old lady bingo club in camden and went a few times before the novelty wore off. i can ask for the details, if people are really interested.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

''Obviously when Colette turned up with a hot young woman I didn't dream of trying to compete with the likes of stevem''

its tough competing with the hair martin.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

And everything else!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

If that hair carries on at the way its going, there won't be an anything else fairly shortly.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the hair.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

there's a picket line outside my house - placards clearly revealing intense disapproval of the proposed '5 and a half inch sacrifice'

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Man, Kate's got skills to do all that from Vermont. (Or do any of the placards say Generation Dean on the back?)

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

more like a conspiracy of three...

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, i never said you couldn't get your hair cut! i actually told you where you could get it cut and suggested a sideburn trim!

lauren, if you could find out what the deal is with the bingo, that would be cool! i don't think it would be something i want to do all the time, but once in a while, i can imagine that it's fun.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

"suckable lightsabre" = what a redneck jedi tells his girlfriend/sister is in his pants.

I'll give you a Jedi night to remember, honey.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 30 January 2004 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm confused. What am I supposed to have done now? Prevent Stevem from getting a haircut? I can't even prevent my own boyfriend from getting a haircut! Sheesh!

Last time, he said he was "going out for a walk" but I went out a few minutes after him, and just happened to be going down Great Russell Street, and as I passed the #5 haircutting place, I thought "That nose looks familiar..." and then rushed in crying "Stop! Stop!" and dragged him out of the barbers chair before they could even mousse him.

It just isn't fair. Where is a serious lad who aims bowlcut?

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 30 January 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow that's shiny hair. That's not you, is it, Matt?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 30 January 2004 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

http://fattydave.homestead.com/files/BowlCut.JPG

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 30 January 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

oh god, at first i thought that was massive back hair climbing from his collar...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

that man's tshirt says _____ up my _____. Intriguing.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

colette, i just sent an email asking for the info about b-i-n-g-o.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

is it possible to read that without hearing a teacher/camp counselor's voice 'and bingo was his name-o' after?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

no.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I read it to the tune of d-i-s-c-o

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

*sheepishness*

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I did too. Colette, were you smoochin' Matt DC?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too. Now the song is going through my head.

Irresistable (daveb), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, i just started a new topic, so bingo discussions should now be moved there.

except we'll leave matt here, if you don't mind...

(i'm walking to the bingo thread singing 'disco queen')

[xpost-- in real life or in the dream that i wrote about?]

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

That is completely the wrong sort of bowl for bowl cutting. In fact, it isn't a bowl at all, it is a Macaroni-Stop-Water-Go-Through.

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Or as we call them, 'colander'.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

ha! mark, your attempt to create scandal has failed miserably.

or was that a matchmaking attempt? hmm? HMMM?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, you have a boyfriend. Even if he is gay.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i was just trying to be like you. but i can't call you emma, because you're a boy. that's all.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark is the leading expert on boyfriends being taken to be gay.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 30 January 2004 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh hush, darling.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 30 January 2004 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)
