Having just done it, pretty classic. Anyone else?

Jim Cassius (J.Cassius), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

who were you???

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

who cares.

classic!!!

fgdsfgsdf, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

not me

i mean you're just an attention seeker anyway, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Classic. I feel better about picking fights with stupid people.

LiquidTide (LiquidTide), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Classic, because at least I don't get confused with other people now.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

doncha just hate that?

Le Dribblo Borotica (Slump Man), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Dud.

Flippy Flop Faulkner (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't really see the point of changing one's ILX name. It seems Jody does it quite a bit.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Dunno. Haven't decided yet. I stopped using my name because I didn't want to risk leaving myself logged in at web cafes and coz I don't want my mum posting as me. However, it is interesting to see who recognises you straight away, regardless, and even more interesting to see what what people have very different reactions to you if they don't know who you are.

I guess name-changing cause you're bored and you feel like a bit of a change is classic. Name-changing because you are deliberately trying to deceive people is dud.

the river fleet, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

people can still figure out who i am from my e-mail address, which remains the same. what's on the left side of the addy really doesn't matter too much.

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

"people can still figure out who i am from my e-mail address, which remains the same"

Yeah, seriously. Between email addresses, log in names, and posting styles, it's not that hard to figure out who used to be who.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

LOL

Jonnycakes W. (ex machina), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I changed my name because I realized the more ilxors I met the less I wanted to post as me. I even re registered myself.

LiquidTide (LiquidTide), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

It's fine if you don't do it very often.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm trying to think up my next one. Sigh.

the river fleet, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I have nothing to hide and no problems with telling people what I think, should I need to. I can't see myself ever needing to change/disgise who I am. Wether I think other people doing so or not is C/D is their business really, not mine. I can understand it to avoid harrasment, obv.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

When done to harrass and stalk "anonymously" or whatever, that's when it *really* gets on my tits, but I'm not going to get into that again.

the river fleet, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's kind of dud if you change your name AND your email as a few people have done. I've been here a long time, and feel like any dialog I might develop with people is ruined if I can't figure out who's who. It irks me even more when it seems like other people find it perfectly obvious who's behind the new name. I like to keep track of who's saying what, and what points of view people subscribe to, and changing names makes this pretty difficult. Oh well.

Sean (Sean), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Paul DeFreita's Ghost (llamasfur), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 01:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm vaguely intrigued by Crocodiles after a cool girl played it in her DJ set at a local bar's hipster night actually. I'll probably stick with your promo-only best-of and Songs To Learn To Sing you two.

If You Don't Like It, Kiss My Tortoise's Shell (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)

she played a non-single from Crocodiles, I mean.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 01:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not reasding ILX 24 hours of the day, so I get *awfully* confused when people change their names. Either that, or I just don't notice.

(my email address is real, and my name is what all my RL friends call me.)

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 05:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I have been seriously thinking about going back to my old alias...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Inversion is the way to go.

Llahtuos Kcin (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I sometimes change my name, but it usually has 'Pink' in there somewhere. My email addy is always the same though.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:17 (twenty-two years ago)

BTW, I'm staying logged in for now so I can contact people about the weekend. If there are any random, poorly spelled and oddly punctuated posts about random topics, that's not me, that's my mum. OK?

The River Kate (kate), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to take credit for Llahthuos Kcin's brilliant name change.

I usually try to keep my log in name sort of similar to at least the last one.

Not This Time, Assmunch! (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

im thinking about changing mine. really, just about anything's classier than what i've got now.

Felcher (Felcher), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Class, schmlass.

Huck Me Gently (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i think i'll make it a rule to never stray from starting my name with "fel"

Felt-Tipped (Felcher), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I tried it once, it didn't feel right, like I was somehow out of character, which maybe means jel is totally constructed.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

his name was Pete DeFreitas, be respectful of the dead please.

hstencil, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I prefer Phil DeFreitas.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I prefer the Cheetos Cheetah, who got sued by Tom Waits.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Thursday, 18 November 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i changed from "k chu" to "ken c" once. i just forgot which one i was using

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 18 November 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I've grown so attached to this name I may change it by deed-poll.

M1chael Ph1lip Ph1lip Ph1lip Ph1lip Ph1lip Ann0yman (Ferg), Thursday, 18 November 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

The dilemma being 'how many Philips?'.

M1chael Ph1lip Ph1lip Ph1lip Ph1lip Ph1lip Ann0yman (Ferg), Thursday, 18 November 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Sanjay, my man!

Someone out there is campaigning for me to be "Captain Underpants," but I don't think I'm going to bite.

Kenan (kenan), Thursday, 18 November 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Crosspost to self - that's not a dilemma, is it? Maybe it's a quandary.

M1chael Ph1lip Ph1lip Ph1lip Ph1lip Ph1lip Ann0yman (Ferg), Thursday, 18 November 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I simply cannot handle being "Kenan" anymore.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't even remember how many names I've had but far less than others that's for sure. Should I change now? I've pretty much decided to let Miss Misery become my Internet identity despite the unoriginality. It fits me too well.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I just change mine whenever I get bored which is often.

papa november (papa november), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 07:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Sam, you should call yourself "Miss Sunshine." You know, like how the 7-foot, fat bowler in the league gets called "Tiny."

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 07:20 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a combo of fandom and self-deprecation. My ex would constantly make me feel like shit for my depression so I just finally decided to roll with it.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 07:22 (twenty-one years ago)

But roll with it with a sense of irony. It's "hip."

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 07:23 (twenty-one years ago)

semi-related question: I've noticed ire directed towards people who post while "anonymous" and it just dawned on me I might be in that category technically, never having registered. Is that what anon. is, even if you use more or less the same name? How many folks register?

tremendoid, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 07:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that ire is directed more towards regulars who log out then post as "anon" b/c they don't want to actually be associated with their words. Personally I find it very weak.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 07:28 (twenty-one years ago)

All the people who post here a lot register. You should. No harm in it. No benefits, either, but, hey, sense of community and all that. The trouble is like Sam says... "I'm going to be a dick now, and I know I'm about to be a dick, but I don't want anyone to know it's *me* being a dick."

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 07:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Michael Philip Philip Philip .... ..... I was really sick the other night and delerious, and apparently I kept repeating your handle to my roommate. He thought I was trying to be funny, but for whatever reason I was obsessed with it in my feverish obsession.

Remy (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 07:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I really should change my name (it is my REAL name after all, and in this google-conscious age, I'm not sure how easy I want to make it for people to find me) but I keep wondering what to change it to. I know I'll go for somethign clever and obscure which will make me a) far too pretentious (and not even in a good way) and b) it'll earn me derision from the rest of ILX, who will identify my name's source and denounce it as cheap and trite.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been changing mine about once a week.

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

That's how I feel. I don't like this name much but I know I won't think of anything impressive so I might as well keep this.

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Guess it depends if your name is Nowell

uncharacteristically scathing (rumpypumpkin), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Eh, I wouldn't worry about trying to be impressive with it.
Since changing from AaronHz I've quoted another ILXor (A Million Talking Hot Dogs), Burroughs (From a Land of Grass Without Mirrors), Marissa Marchant (Hi, I am a genius, a big one), and an IMDb message board poster (Every country has their stupid).
This newest one is a quote from the film Circle of Iron (The Silent Flute), a childhood fave of mine starring David Carradine.

Just pick something that you find mildly amusing and then ditch it when you get sick of it.
Or not, no biggie.

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 11:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess I don't mean impressive as such, rather not crap. If I cared I'd have changed by now. Yes I will change though.

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Remy, that's pretty cool. It's bad that you were sick, though.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Saturday, 10 December 2005 01:34 (twenty years ago)

I changed my name a couple times recently. I think it's cool as long as you keep some vestige of the original name (same e-mail, for example) so people still know who you are.

I just got sick of being called "Hurting." It sounded so ... negative. Whereas "Jazz Douchebag" has a sunny ring to it.
