depovera, Friday, 30 January 2004 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

You do know this is ILX, don't you?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 30 January 2004 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i, oddly, HATE know-it-alls while BLATANTLY being one myself.
except i give myself leeway because normally i do actually know it all (or most.
i must be quite an annoying person to be around?

emjj, Friday, 30 January 2004 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

HA! ILX to thread!

Llahtuos Kcin (Nick Southall), Friday, 30 January 2004 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

um apparently i don't know how to close brackets. damn.

emjj, Friday, 30 January 2004 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, sometimes. but it's all relative, e.g. in my office I am certainly regarded as an irritating know-all about music, but I am an ignoramus basking in the reflected glory of many of the ppl who post to ILM.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 30 January 2004 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

"If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of know it alls"

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 30 January 2004 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I go to two pub quizzes a week. So, I probably am.

(on our quiz team, I'm the irritating London Underground know-all. Sadly, questions about it do not come up very often.)

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 30 January 2004 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I know everything that there is possible to know about me but I have never been asked a question, in a quiz setting, that this knowledge would become invaluable for.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 30 January 2004 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I generally go to 2 pub quizzes a week too, Caitlin. One is a league quiz and the other is yr standard come-along-on-the-day affair with big money prizes.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 30 January 2004 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

don't hesitate to TXT if a question about me comes up, anyone.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 30 January 2004 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Questionmaster: "and now it's time for the tie-breaker question! Norfolk 'n' Chance and the Oddballs, would you please each select a team member to come up here to the front and answer the question that I'm about to ask you..."

(there is a whistle of microphone and a scraping of chairs)

Questionmaster: "OK, you two, what is the correct pronunciation of the following Scottish surname?" (he holds up a piece of paper with GILLANDERS written on it)

Contestant #1 "Gillon-does?"

Contestant #2: "Gill- anders?"

Quizmaster: "I'm sorry, no, you're both incorrect. The actual answer is Gi-landers. Better luck next time! So the cash prize rolls over to next week".

Barman: "Time at the bar please!"

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 30 January 2004 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was in elementary school my mom's friends used to ring her up to put annoying trivia questions to me because my answers were always right.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 30 January 2004 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

as a kid, definitely -- that's what you get for reading the encyclopedia. though i always thought "smartass" was a better word.

the krza (krza), Friday, 30 January 2004 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

yes. i'm the only child of two professors. i was probably insufferable as a kid.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 30 January 2004 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I kill--KILL--at jeopardy

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 30 January 2004 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Honestly, who here isn't a know-it-all?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 30 January 2004 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

As a small child I had very high 'virtual winnings' for Jeopardy etc.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 30 January 2004 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

law school beat all of my know-it-all'ing outta me.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 30 January 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

god yeah.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 30 January 2004 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

not that any of you would get it.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 30 January 2004 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

The more that I find out, the more I know.
