I'm not posting this into ILM for a reason.

Remember choose carefully; the winner(s) will receive a full Cross Colours wardrobe, and get to appear on In Living Color...

and......go!

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

The way the subject line was phrased made me wonder if C***m had shifted tactics, I admit.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

now, now, if Ca1um began praising the virtues of Misters Bivins, DeVoe, and Bell, he'd be much more tolerated.

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

BBD all the way.

BBD is STILL better!

ANOTHER BAD CREATION, FUCK-OS!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Poison > Jump > Candy Girl > Motownphilly > I Wanna Sex You Up > don't know anything by ABC

BBD win as I'm not sure the others have at least one other good single ('Do Me' which i heard for the first time(!) last Friday also pretty good)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

No, Motownphilly is better than that.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

YOU DON'T KNOW "AT THE PLAYGROUND"????!!!?!!?

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

And raise your hands if the Boyz II Men "It's So Hard To Say Goodbye" track was used as a class song by one of the grades in your high school.

ours was either that, or Duran Duran's "Ordinary World."

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool picks.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

the way the harmony on 'Poison' (during the bridge and breakdown bit) drifts into this illusionary off-kilter chord then back 'on track' is so cool - there's this profound tinge of mystery and possibly even despair in their collective voices when it occurs. and the beat's off all kinds of hooks, even today.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

also I think New Edition should be outta this contest since they totally were the ORIGINATORS of all this, HATERS.

NKOTB are fair game tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

also another thing in "Poison"'s favor is "never trust a big butt and a smile."

Oh fuck that SO happened at my fucking highschool prom. The runner up to "It's So Hard..."? That would be the single OFF THAT FUCKING BODYGUARD SOUNDTRACK. I think my write-in vote that year was "Something I Learned Today" by Husker Du.

I wasn't playing NES, but I was playing some cheap-ass Q-Bert shareware rip-off.

The answer is Bell Biv Devoe, by the way: "Poison" is indeed great, and let's not forget "Do Me" ("smack it up, flip it, rub it down, oh no!")

However: with the exception of Color Me Badd and Kris Kross, we are pitting homies against homies. Bell Biv Devoe, Another Bad Creation, Boyz II Men, and (if I'm not mistaken) New Edition were all part of the "East Coast Family."

yes, thus evidenced in the line:

the East Coast Family"

still, THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE. those Cross Colours aint gunna wear THEMSELVES, ya know.

BBD all the way.. I can certainly understand why most people take them as a joke, but their first album really was way ahead of its time, set a new standard for incorporating hip-hop production techniques into R&B. I'm thinking mainly of the the Bomb Squad's contributions to the album ("I Thought It Was Me", "Let Me Know Something"..)

our senior prom theme was 'end of the road'. sigh.

i vote BBD. but i have a fondness for both BIIM and CMB as well. it's mostly that i had the whole BBD casette and listened to it a lot. including on my last trip home. oh the joys of old tapes.

NEW EDITION.

Bel Biv Devoe.
On account of Bel. On account of Biv. And, last but not least, on account of Devoe.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 27 May 2004 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

"Bel Biv Devoe" means "Pretty Biv of Voe" in French.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 27 May 2004 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 27 May 2004 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

"Boyz II Men" means "Boyz You Men" in French.
"New Edition" means "We Edition" in French.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 27 May 2004 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

without New Edition there would have never been a Bel Biv Devoe. "Can You Stand The Rain" outshines anything BBD did. And the winner of this thread is of course THE FORCE MD'S.

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Thursday, 27 May 2004 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

without New Edition there would have never been a Bel Biv Devoe

or indeed a solo career for Ralph Tresvant. "Sensitivity" is a good song.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 27 May 2004 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

its okay

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 27 May 2004 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't forget Johnny Gill!!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 27 May 2004 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

"Sensitivity" is great(ish)! JG is ehhhh.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 27 May 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this the New-Jack ILX?

Mark me down with BBD, too, although the shear nastay classiqueness of Jodeci is deserving of at least a mention in the thread title.

Tony! Toni! Tone!, now, are in a class by themselves.

i love 'Jump' by Kriss Kross, i remember Johnny Gill's 'The Floor' as being okay - where is Keith Sweat already?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 27 May 2004 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

TIME is down!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 27 May 2004 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

now now now, if you want to bring in solo artists, you'd have to include Bobby Brown's theme song for "Ghostbusters II", and NO ONE wants to go there.

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Thursday, 27 May 2004 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Sensitivity is in fact brilliant, but the remix of it far superior. He goes off on a tangent about cooking dinner. Keith Sweat is fantastic as well. the Twisted remix is one of the greatest things ever. Johnny Gill gets props, but also loses props for having Kenny G. on his album.

I did notice someone mentioned Ready For The World, Let me Love you down is about it. That sheila shit is crap.

Lets not forget Troop, Alliance, or Silk.

New Edition allowed this to come into existence:

But then, is it as good as Johnny Gill's "Rub You The Right Way"? This is a question that could keep me up for nights.
