Longtime hotel residency. As employed by Agatha Christie, on-loan footballers, and those two old biddies from Fawlty Towers. Have you ever stayed in a hotel for a long period of time? Why? Was it a good experience? Bad?

Prompted because I, aged nearly 22, spent my first ever night in a hotel last night. I watched The King of Comedy.

I stayed in a hotel for quite a while in Chinatown in SF while we were waiting for an apartment. It got rather annoying after a while, to be honest.

Oh yeah, I lived in a hotel room with my family (parents and sister) for about a week while our house was being fixed up when we moved back to Maryland. The coolest thing was complimentary breakfast = free donuts every morning. Other than that, kinda lame.

i suppose it depends on whether or not you know people in the city that you're in, but i don't think it's that dreary and i like the anonymity bit. plus, bathrobes and room service!

my whole family lived in a motel in daly city when we moved back to california for two and a half months. It was fucking horrible. But motel != hotel. We got complimentary spiders in the shower.

i stayed in hotels non stop for a little over a year, but it was diff hotels every couple of nights with three weeks being the longest stay. does that count? it was ok. tought me to appreciate MY OWN BED.

Staying in hotels is undeniably awesome. Staying in hotels for more than a week or so just seems sad to me. Your stuff isn't there. Your cats. You can't paint/hang pictures/rearrange the furniture. (Well, you can but the management get annoyed and it rarely helps)

I spent a couple of months in a hotel in Tokyo and I started to miss my books and records so badly I could taste it. Having people do the bed and bathroom was awfully nice though.

i lived in a hotel room with my entire family for about a month and a half in 1986. the hotel was actually a motel and it was in scottsdale, arizona. i remember it being incredibly fun.

from the late July to December 2001 I lived in enlisted billeting on Goodfellow AFB, because the length of my training there was just on the edge between Temporary Duty (TDY) and Permanent Change Of Station (PCS). So instead of room inspections and chow hall grog we got allowances for food and maids to change our beds every day.

It was in several ways the absolute worst five months of my entire life, but I don't think living in a hotel was the reason why. San Angelo, Texas and the 316th Training Squadron probably had more to do with that (and getting up at 0430 am every weekday).

Actually fuck that hotel and fuck that town and fuck every single person in it who isn't being forced on pain of imprisonment to live there. Fuck having weird women come into my room every day and mess with my stuff while I was gone, and fuck my entire chain of command. And DEFINITELY fuck wasting 5 months of my life in a total shithole training intensively for a job I never did and will never, ever do.

A fanciful aside, but Ive thought about the idea that, were I to somehow win a large lottery prize, one of the first things I'd do is travel to NYC and take up residence in a large serviced apartment/penthouse hotel suite in the fancy part of town, for about a month, and have ILXors over for decandent cake and booze and partying.

Then go do the same again in say, Paris or Milan, Montreal, and a few other cool places. Ah but I can dream.

Spending a good part of my dot-com severance on 6 weeks of various hotels around europe was the best decision I ever made. I love them. The only drag is that you can't really cook in them.

For an alarming majority of that five months mentioned above I subsisted on Pizza Hut Pan Pizza, Mountain Dew, and Coors Light. And Camel Filters.

I lived in a hotel for almost 2 months several summers ago when my bathroom in my apartment went straight to hell and was in danger of, erm, falling into the apartment below it. The renovations took a lot, lot longer than expected mainly because no one gives a fuck about that building and they got half ass people to do the job.

We were very disappointed to leave. The hotel we stayed in HAD a kitchen en suite and a separate bedroom and a large living room though so it was like living at home except nice and with working things and someone else gets to clean up.

I spent 3 weeks at in a hotel in Norway recently, and tho' it was fun at first I was hating it by the second week, for all the reasons cited above. I wasn't with anyone (business trip), and I had seen everything I wanted to see in town after a while. Glucipher played next door to the hotel when I was there, and though I'm not a metal fan I probably would have gone if I'd payed attention. The mini-bar had $14 mini-bottles (175 ml) of wine. Ouch!

On the other hand, when I was 10 our family stayed at a cheap motel in Needles, California (100 degrees) for a few days and I loved it. Swimming pool and Dark Shadows on TV!

My recent stay in New Orleans involved me carrying my laptop absolutely everywhere during the day.
And for some reasont he maid kept turning the heat down in the day to 50 degrees. Which is like minus 10 or something for the rest of the world. Nothing like walking in from 30 degrees into a freezer while slightly tipsy.

I spent seven weeks in a hotel in Sydney in 2000 transferring ownership of some stuff to the branch of the company down there. I don't cook anyway, so it was just free laundry to me. I was surprised how little I minded not being able to accumulate books/music/comics.

In 1999, I spent about 5 months at a B&B in Greenock. The pros were having your own bathroom, having someone come in to clean the place, a cooked breakfast in the mornings (weight ballooned, though) and a bar downstairs.

The living-out-of-suitcase aspect I could deal with. The lack of cooking facilities was frustrating, at first, before I realised work was paying me way more than what I needed in expenses so I could just eat out all the time.
