OK, I'm freaking out because I just realized my two week trip to NYC/London/Iceland is coming up really soon and I haven't really made any "lodging" plans anywhere.

So, in the meantime, here's to possibly hanging out my first leg of the NYC visit

ddb (ddb), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

If you leave Tues the 15th open from 10-noon you can be a guest DJ on my show. I can't do lunch afterwards cos my office hours for promoters et al to call me is immediately following but we can maybe arrange a lunch with a bunch of people for Wed?

Evenings are kind of gross for me but I might be able to make a nighttime thing for a little bit any of those days.

Allyzay, Monday, 7 June 2004 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

This is already turning out great. :)
Battles is Ian Williams' new thang?

(Allyzay, can the mixer board take an iPod? (heh heh))

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Battles is Ian Williams' new thang?
Yup!

There should be some pre-show boozing somewhere???

ddb (ddb), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah it's set up that way, it can actually take both my laptop and your iPod AT THE SAME TIME, it's kinky that way.

Allyzay, Monday, 7 June 2004 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Poor db.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw yeah... Ally, my iPod is a talisman. It won me a $50 gift certificate to the Apple store. It can, with the right conditions, produce riches to whoever is nearby.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

DB, hang in there and someone will lodge you. Tis the ILX credo.

(Have a fab time, and be ready for anything! Too bad we'll miss each other by, like, a month.)

Donut Bitch and His Magical Pod

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I was thinking that!

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Many thanks to everybody (on all the threads) so far for the immediate responses... i feel less nervous now

(I will seek out invidividual numbers and/or email addresses later this week, certainly, just in case something happens to ILX)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Phear, donut bitca.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

do NOT confuse me weeth thees mongrrel named "donut bitch"

donut bitca (donut), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought NYC was like The Apple, but apparently it's much more corny and indie than that.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

do NOT confuse me weeth thees mongrrel named "donut bitch"

You're one of those art installation fops, aren't you.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought the Battles show was Saturday?

Nicole, really, try some prozac.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

No thanks, but it was kind of you to offer?

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 10 June 2004 05:03 (twenty-two years ago)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 10 June 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 June 2004 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, I come back late on the 24th, then leave Sunday evening the 27th. I purposefully planned a NYC weekend on my way back from Priceland. (if you're going to the battles show on the 15th though, I might see you sooner, but now sure if you're a big fan of ian williams.. does he still chew gum?)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 10 June 2004 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

(that is NOT sure)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 10 June 2004 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't seen him since probably December, at a mutual friend's xmas party.

too bad you're not gonna be here on the 22nd, looks like I'll be djing a show.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 June 2004 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

well, keep me updated if any DJ gigs pop up for you between the dates I'm there. I'd love to attend. Same witchoo, Dan Selzer! (if he's reading this)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

From Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn
(www.developdontdestroy.org):

Celebrate Brooklyn Communities Block Party and Rally
Against the Ratner/Nets Arena and High Rise Development

When: Saturday, June 19th, 2pm
Where: Pacific Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues -
Prospect Heights,
Brooklyn
Cost: FREE!

As developer Bruce Ratner's plan to build a new arena and high rise
buildings in Brooklyn continues apace, the affected communities are
coming together to draw the public's attention to exactly what is at
stake. On June 19, 2004 in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, a consortium of activist groups will be hosting the Celebrate Our Communities Block Party, an event celebrating our Brooklyn communities, while affirming the right of individuals everywhere to have a say in development projects that affect them. The event will highlight
the problems of misguided initiatives like Ratner's Nets Arena and 17
High Rise Proposal -- the demolition of homes and businesses, misuse of taxpayer funds, 3K parking garage and traffic increase, environmental damage, mall-ification of mom and pop communities, lack of sustainable jobs and affordable housing. Yet, the block party/rally will be first and foremost a celebration of the area's dynamic and viable communities and the residents who have done so much to transform this part of Brooklyn.

Popular Brooklyn musical acts and DJs include:
The French Kicks
DJ Scribe (Love Revolution)
Eman (Bang the Party)
DJ Dhundee (Sugar Cuts)
Gamall (Rude Movements)
Touch It Crew

Special Guests:
MC Enemy
The Spunk Lads

Some of Brooklyn's finest restaurants and bars and the area's crafts and design stores will be offering their wares; politicians, activists and performers will be keeping the throngs entertained
from the pulpit.

The event is not to be missed for anyone sympathetic to a community's
right to choose its future, or anyone who simply wishes to spend a great day in Brooklyn.

Saturday, June 19, 2pm. Pacific Street between 5th and
6th Avenue,
Prospect Heights, Brooklyn.
2/3, 4/5, B or Q to Atlantic Avenue; N, R, D or M to
Pacific Street; G
to Fulton Street; C to Lafayette Avenue.

* Take Action! *

Please help by:
1) attending the block party/rally and encouraging
others to do so;
2) forwarding this message to family and friends in
the New York City
area; and
3) printing and distributing fliers (pdf) announcing
the event at

ok, i got in to jfk at 9am this morning, and i'm currently at my friend's house in williamsburg (blocks away from the L train station). We might be gettin food in the neighborhood tonight, and I think we'll be at the Battles show tomorrow night. So there you have it so far. I really need a nap, but otherwise hanging in there, despite the very Seattle looking skies here today.

I'm in the mood for really big, good pizza slices tonight (oh darn, too bad i'm in nyc)

Ally, should I just call you tomorrow at 9am for the radio show thing? or did you have a change of plans?

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 14 June 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

battles show was on saturday

go to:

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/nyhappenings/

there's a flyer there for a party tomorrow night which may be fun. The bad news is the 6 dollar cover, but the good news is the money goes to East Village Radio, the little pirate radio station that could...The other good news is the open bar. So if you get a few drinks maybe it's worth it.

Joel, I'm DJing with you at the Swingset party, what, next tuesday? I just got Meredith Monk's Turtle Dreams on vinyl, so it should TOTALLY ROCK!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 14 June 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard U.D.U. involves Jim walking around on stage talking to the audience.

Castro were a lot of fun.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 14 June 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah Dan, I just got the extended mix version of "Running Up That Hill" to play for ddb, so I'm looking forward to it.

Might go to North6 tonight. Also, may get cheap homemade pasta in W'burg tomorrow.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 14 June 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to wander to Daddy's til 10pmish then wander over to APT.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

If the doorman at APT give you attitude make sure you say you're "there for the party downstairs."

sometimes they think you're trying to wait for the more "exclusive" upstairs.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

who ever goes upstairs there?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm think I'm gonna skip out on Piazzetta but I'll definitely be at Daddy's.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

word. PISTONS.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

carey and i are going to be there from 9 onwards, to get a bit of an early start since it takes alcohol a while to affect us.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

riiiiiiight.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I do yoga at Absolute Power with a pint in one hand and a hot dog in the other.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

sometimes the better DJs are upstairs. Like when 2manyDJs and James Murphy are downstairs and Me and Porkchop are upstairs, those with discriminating taste would want to go upstairs.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

but Dan we can see you DJ any weekend!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

only if you're gonna be in philly this weekend.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

dammit I was a couple weeks ago.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

dan is djing a teenybopper mod-turned-teenbopper electro party!

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Making Time is bigger then that now. It's like 10x larger then Motherfucker, it's pretty much every hipster age 18-28 in the philly area. That is, not necessarily the types who like, buy Siltbreeze records, but you know what I mean.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

and I still have space on my guest list, Lauren.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i didn't say it was a small party. i just said teenybopper. jeezum. anyway... i think i have to make tacos on saturday, but let me know when y'all are leaving.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

TACOS SATURDAY 2PMISH MY HOUSE!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I meant bigger in size as well as scope, i.e. not just young mods or electro types, but just tons and tons of people. I heard Mr. Goodstein is renting a van? I offered a spot to your australian friend who's name I don't want to butcher right now. I'll know the schedule shortly.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i was also "jerking your chain," in case you didn't realize. keep me posted on the timing.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

damn I could see maybe going to Philly post-taco party. If so, we've all got a great place to crash at!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I have 2 free guest list spots right now. The party is 3 rooms, Franz Ferdinand w/ Dave P. and co DJing, Julian Process, Ivan P.(or something) and JDH DJing in another room, and Crazy Rhythms DJing in yet some other room.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I. AM. SO. BUMMED. RIGHT. NOW.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

fuckin lakers.....

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

welll. anyway, it was fun hanging out with the crew at daddy's... way too many folks to meet and wish i had more time to talk to more of you. (Piazzetta was great!)

the L train was busted, the G train was on some retarded shuttle mode and the A train draaaaagged tonight, so it took me two hours to get to the APT thing from Wmsbrg but I made it eventually. But I barely meet super sweet Aaron W, Phil Two -- who got ATTACKED BY SOME ASSHOLE GOOMBA WITH NO SENSE OF SELF CONFIDENCE OR SENSE, Andy Battaglia, and Jeff Samuel (who was DJing). A fun time... Phil is alright... but things were kinda crazy there for a second.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 06:55 (twenty-one years ago)

many thanks to JBR for being there to hang with during the whole subway mess. That made things a lot easier.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 06:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Phil Two -- who got ATTACKED BY SOME ASSHOLE GOOMBA WITH NO SENSE OF SELF CONFIDENCE OR SENSE

whoa... what happened?

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 08:22 (twenty-one years ago)

uhhh, i can barely remember. but then kendra swooped down and threw him off me... and then people started buying me drinks!!! i hope this happens more often! except omg im laying low on the booze for awhile.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait, that's a contradiction.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Aww, phil, I hope you're okay!

Sorry to miss you DB, I was busy preparing for and flunking a road test.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, sorry I split without a pound for my ILM peeps, I couldn't deal with seeing the lakers BLOW IT in public. So depressing.

Anyway...it was ABSOLUTE POWER seeing y'all.

hey! i didnt get beat! just a little choked. i think.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

my funny story for the night: the driver that took us back into the city was the same one that filmed my friend monica (there with me last night) for taxicab confessions some months ago, and was also recently written up in jane magazine for being a gutsy lady car service driver. her name is iris. hidden cameras aside, she's totally awesome and will let you smoke and sing along to ktu club jams. she sang louder than us, actually.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I should not have had that disco drink before getting to Daddy's. It made me just want to hide out in the booth all night long. I barely talked to anyone! There was no absolute power for me.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

carey, you always have teh power.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I forgot to order teh special!

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i ordered too many, i fear.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Phil was just fine after it all thankfully. I don't think the goomba was really "all that" as far as ability to do damage.. just more bark than bite. Still though, that was a really weird first impression of a dance night out in NYC, surely. All was good after that, and everyone there was really sweet and nice.

My funny getting-back-home story involved a battle between a convenience store clerk/owner and an army of midget transvestites packed in a mega-SUV from Delaware. That certainly was the time I heard "bitch!" yelled more times per second than ever before in my life.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

If you did not take pictures of that I will cry.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I could have taken pictures Ned, but I didn't want to be "bitch!"-ed to death... seriously! (It's usually not nice to take pictures of a confrontation without a chance of possibly getting your camera and respective ass busted)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Now this is wise. It's the 'midget transvestite' description which amazes.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

(Michael Daddino! wazzup... i tried to call you)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Arrrrgh. The proposal that I had to ship out tonight took much longer than I expected, so I just got home.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)
