Dear Nick S.

Your obsession with posting on my threads is welcomed, but please stop calling me at 3am and making heavy breathing noises down the phone. I know that my posts make your life worthwhile, allowing you to feel above someone whilst not actually realising that I am - in fact - taking the piss with 99% of what I post - but enough is enough.

Thanks.

C-Man (C-Man), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Come on, Calum, there are people who would kill to have Nick calling them at 3am while breathing heavily down the line.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I couldn't tell if this was a Calum or Jon thread.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never met Nick's cousins but I'll take your word for it.

Cousins are legal, Calum.

Please lock this thread please lock this thread please lock this thread

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Calum, we wouldn't have your threads locked so much, it's just that we don't particularly care what you think 'cause you've been an asshole to pretty much everybody here and so we do what we like

obThread, fucking your own cousin is all right but fucking Calum's cousins is a special treat

Musical Bear, Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

NOTE: The locking of Calum's threads is as much about how regular posters see them as a free pass to act like idiots as it is about the inherent worth of the threads in the first place, so some amount of the "I'm so superior to you" attitude being displayed here may not actually be warranted.

MODERATOR (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck shit piss. Grandmother.

Spinktor au de toilette (El Spinktor), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

well but Dan in fairness - aren't they a free pass to act like idiots? I mean: once somebody's exhausted your goodwill, completely & repeatedly, isn't it all right to just sorta go off? This is a serious question. One answer I anticipate: "Yes, it'd be OK to occasionally go off, but to do it every freaking time is just supremely unproductive." Which answer is correct! But! There really have been instances of people ignoring Calum, for a few days at a time I think (nb my memory tends to make shit up sometimes so I could be wrong): to my mind, anyhow, it doesn't matter what anybody does - he's gonna come around and act like a dick. Guy comes into my hangout spot and acts like a dick on a regular basis, even after having been asked nicely & not-nicely to cut it the fuck out, I view that as carte blanche to repay him in kind.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

The main problem is the the rampant asshattery turns into more work for me, which then turns into slow-burning resentment that people who I normally get along with can't fucking restrain themselves from responding to the exact same piece of stupid troll bait over and over and over and over agin, which then leads me to start thinking that a significant portion of the posters on the board are actually fucking idiots.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, it has been demonstratively proven that "repaying him back in kind" does not make him go away and in fact makes him worse, so why people continue to do it completely puzzles me unless of course they actually like it when I completely lose my rag and tell them that they're completely annoying the tits off of me and right now I wouldn't be too upset if they never posted again.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm aware that this is often me, and the only explanation I could offer is what J0hn already said. I'm sorry, Dan. And I'm writing a lovely review of the new Orbital RIGHT NOW and will dedicate it to you.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, Dan, I heard the Cure have a new album coming out soon. You might wanna look out for that.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry Danwise.

OLD NEWS

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Another way you can make ME as a moderator happy when it comes to thread locking is to make sure a similar thread has not already been posted. To wit -- did you know that Robert Quine has unhappily died, that his last name is very easy to run as a thread title search on both boards, and that there have been almost six or so separate threads now? OH FUN.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Let's start a thread to index all of the other threads. BRB>

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

the Quine thing is just ridiculous. I mean, seriously, do folks approach ilx thinking that they've got some sort of HOT SCOOP that obviates the need to even GLANCE at "New Answers" for 10 seconds, to see if the topic has been covered? That's the thing - it's so totally NOT a matter of even searching the archives, just take a second to glance at that "New Answers" page right in front of you! I dunno, it's just beyond me. so there is the simple courtesy factor there, but the thing that really rankles is the presumption that when a fairly major musical figure dies, some sort of note might not yet have been made on what is probably THE SINGLE BIGGEST repository of music geeks on the internet. Yes, oh thread-starters - nobody has heard the news. I mean, I'm not a moderator, and I don't honestly care that much. But the whole thing is just so mind-bogglingly insane.

Broheems (diamond), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan. I agree. Most people on thsi board are "fucking idiots". That is why you all must be glad I'm here.

C-Man's posts make me envy Robert Quine.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey. I'm the funniest guy on here. You seen my latest one on ILM? It's genius!

C-Man (C-Man), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

unless of course they actually like it when I completely lose my rag and tell them that they're completely annoying the tits off of me

well Dan if you're going to pull out totally & completely lose-my-shit hilarious phrases like "annoying the tits off me," it's gonna be hard not to intentionally provoke you

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

J0hn otm everytime. i sympathise with Dan tho and will heed his message (tho i fear others won't which is usually why i end up posting on c-mang's usually worthless threads, of which this is technically one.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan. I agree. Most people on thsi board are "fucking idiots". That is why you all must be glad I'm here.

Let us stand and stare and admire this sentence.

Then let us all go: NO!

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 08:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Who's this Quine fella then?

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 08:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, should I have heard of him?

(the possibility that Dan thinks John should never post again is just silly, and Dan knows it)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

don't you mean you know it?

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 09:34 (twenty-two years ago)

No. Dan just has a different method of letting off steam.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

And... scene.
