A large part of my family decamped there from manchester in the early 80s. It is full of expats, retired East Coast folk, and bored kids. Nice enough beach, but endless strip malls, condos, weird atmosphere, almost like some eternal leather-skinned swinger's party.
xpost yes, lots of frat boy assholes too.

having a lane for cars to drive up and down a beach is just wrong. this lane exists BETWEEN where you hang out on the beach and the water, btw, so you have to cross it to go swimming. it's usually driven on by loads of teenagers in pickups or lame attempts at lo-riders blaring crap music. god bless america.

NB if I had to visit a spot on the Atlantic coast of Florida I would go back to St. Augustine, everything tends to get worse with proximity to Miami in my experience (Miami = so bad it's like wow)

I'm not sure I'd go to Ft. Lauderdale on purpose.

Amelia Island is where I broke my nose the first time, jumping backwards into the condo swimming pool.
