@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it really his birthday?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, he's 38 in Canadian years.

Anyway he claims it's his birthday but I haven't seen his licence or anything.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Huckster S. Thompson is my hero and my whipping boy. I'm looking forward to watching your bald spot grow to the size of confederation as a result of years of cigarette, alcohol and firearm abuse.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

HARPY BOSCHDAY. I SNUGGLE YR CHERRIES.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I wanted to get you a girl popping out of a cake, but this was the best I could do.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel so, so loved.
I don't have a bald spot yet, but I have lost about a quarter-inch from my hair (or gained, depending on which way you measure these things) and when I was doing my bit about losing my hair at my gig last night, I was talking about how, when it starts to go, you start looking back with regret on all the things you did or didn't do with your hair. Like using 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner. And then some guy starts yelling "2-in-1 sucks!"
And I'm like, "yeah, that's why I regret it."
"No, 2-in-1 SUCKS!!!"
"Okay, Dini Petty, settle down."

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I totally misread "popping out of a cake" for a second.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Who's Dini Petty?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

happy happy happy birthday!

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

She was briefly the Canadian Sally Jesse, and also did commercials for, I think either Pert or Pears 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.eventsedge.com/dinipetty.html

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

So does it go "...all the things you didn't do with your hair. Like use 2-in-1 conditioner. Or go to Paris."?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Close, "or take it swimming in the ocean."

that page resized my browser.
and I liked it.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"Dini Petty: Speaker, Author, Poet, Former Talk Show Host"

THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE MY LIFE!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I know, everything is more square now. It's a nice, compact look.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

It's sort of like that technique they used in Paula Abdul videos. It's slimming.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know Huck at all, really, but he's pretty funny. I'm glad he's older, now.

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at Huck that way

But now he only blocks the sun
He rains and he snows on everyone
So many things I would have done
But Huck got in my way

I've looked at Huck from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's Huck's illusions I recall
I really don't know Huck at all

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

So...that Dini Petty thing? Would a Canadian find it funny?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

OMG!!!!!!

Huck Honors Bishop Tutu

Huck led a star-studded red carpet in New York, where he and the Muppets joined stars like Martha Stewart, Matt Lauer and Diane Sawyer. And while there were plenty of laughs, Huck was on hand for important business: Bishop Desmond Tutu invited the Queen of Talk to help him receive a Sesame Workshop special honor for his work with children.
On her way in, Huck told "Extra" about his plans to help the world, one giant Huck step at a time: "I decided when I turned 27 that I was just going to get with the program and do it for good."

Huck revealed one of his first strategies: kid power. "I believe that children are the promise of what today is, not just tomorrow."

Bishop Tutu, who is respected and admired by the world, had wonderful things to say about Huck: "He's fantastic, fantastic, and cares so very much about young people."

Meanwhile, Huck shared some Bishop secrets with us, "This is what most people don't know," Huck revealed. "I was with Bishop Tutu last July and he can dance."

But he also told us why he is so drawn to helping kids. "I, who do not have children, have taken it upon myself in ways that I can, to be the voice for children who have no voice. You know that song, ‘I believe that children are our future?’ I think people sing that, but they really don't believe it."

Huck also took a minute to send a message to his good friend, mom-to-be Julia Roberts: "Julia, all this time we waited, and we got a double whammy -- it was worth it. Well worth the wait, Julia."

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know. I couldn't really tell, but I taped my performance and plan on reviewing it tonight to find out what worked.
The funniest thing is that a couple of my friends came up and told me that their favourite part was this bit I did that I couldn't really figure out how to finish but when I was onstage, I forgot I only had the set-up and launched into it anyway and then when I got to the part where the punchline should be I said, "And that really doesn't serve any purpose at all."
They thought that was hilarious.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i did
kinda

well x-post

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

"The Queen Of Talk"! You saucy bitch.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

happy birfday!

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Huck, where can I catch your act? Are you one of those comedians who wears a cheap suit and comes on to pacify the crowd during burlesque shows?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

"Gentlemen, please take your hands out of pockets and clap them soundly together for the comedy stylings of HOOORACE MANNNN!"

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish I could afford a cheap suit.
Last night I played second on a bill of four that included a Cdn Idl reject, an excellent punkrockband and circus folk. i plan on getting as much mic-time over the next few months as possible and then maybe taking a trip to NYC in the fall or something and trying my stuff out there. They'll love my bit about the statues in front of city hall.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

California crowds are easy, man.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

And by "easy" I mean "loose-moralled".

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

that's why I'm avoiding them. I'm trying to make my way as Western Canada's secondmost Right Wing Comic.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you do comics stuff?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Right after the premier of Alberta?

xpost

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a bit about Batman, and how I don't get laid.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't that a bit redundant?

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

It's cyclical. In the context of my act.
Right now, though, I still feel like my jokes read better than anything. It's a somewhat surprising challenge, mastering the whole delivery thing. I blame ILX.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Huck, this is true of most inexpensive ukuleles. It might also be the case that you need to let the strings "settle" though, which would take a while. So who knows?

I should send you some Ed's Redeeming Qualities! My favorite uke-infused band.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn, I forgot to request that one day you and I must meet up and have a mass omics reading/bonding session.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

well, CDOTB, you've missed your chance. it's too late.

Casuistry, I don't mean the uke doesn't stay in tune, I mean you turn the peg, let go and the peg turns back to its original position. For a split-second I thought it might be some E-Z-Tune smart uke feature where HWan a.i. kept the instrument in perfect tune. Then I strummed it.

Also, I got the Looney Tunes Golden Collection. It's almost like I turned 12. Only better, cuz I can buy beer.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, see if I do this next year then *fumes*.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

See, this is why I have no friends!

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, then you have a cheap uke. As do I. We can have a cheap duelling uke party!

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

and then when I got to the part where the punchline should be I said, "And that really doesn't serve any purpose at all."

Well, this redeems you!
