that's it, Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn...go away

Maybe this Dodgeball movie will be okay, I dunno. But seeing the commercials for it made me realize that if I never see these two in a movie again, let alone together, it'll be soon enough. They've become the actor versions of those pseudo-vintage ironic $30 Urban Outfitters t-shirts.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

they have become mockeries, ben stiller needs to disappear for 10 years, and then make a comeback in kill bill 3

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I think The Ben Stiller Story is the Great American Tragedy of our times.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

he was great in Curb Your Enthusiasm, though

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember seeing Permanent Midnight and thinking "this movie isn't great but this is a ballsy fucking role to take" and I was very impressed. But now he's completely lost the plot.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember thinking the same thing as Gear! Maybe HE is my doppelganger
(except for the couch thing)

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

My wife loves him. Him and Ethan Hawke. And me.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

d'oh

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe we were separated at birth. Do you also like Sergio Leone movies?

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

who doesn't like Sergio Leone movies?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

not as much as Hal Hartley movies, so there you go

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Ben Stiller might be the only actor Sergio Leone couldn't have possibly made menacing/cool with an extreme closeup.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

not as much as Hal Hartley movies, so there you go

It's possible that I'm your doppelganger, D.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

well, we knew that

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

"I had a bad day. I had to subvert my principles and kowtow to an idiot. Television makes these daily sacrifices possible."

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I would rather sacrifice my television.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait, that's my favourite movie quote. Maybe I'm your...

Never mind.

ready w/Martin Donovan pic at a moment's notice, that's me

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

So you hear that new Wilco yet, DB?

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 10 June 2004 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

yep, good stuff

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 10 June 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

*runs from Wilco hataz*

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 10 June 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

no, stay! I like Wilco, despite being the target of pedants elsewhere who think otherwise.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 10 June 2004 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

except for one ten-minute song in the middle it's great. maybe I need to smoke more of the wacky weed whilst listening to it, then I could appreciate it more :)

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 10 June 2004 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Somewhere a Wilco thread is turning into a discussion of Zoolander.

I still don't think YHF is their best, I'm all about that Summerteeth business.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 10 June 2004 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Summerteeth gets better every time I listen to it. It has the undercurrent of impending chaos I look for in music (mmmmmmmm...chaos)

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 10 June 2004 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, but Vince Vaughn can do no wrong.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 10 June 2004 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

ok Clay Pigeons for starters

funny how Jay Farrar, who held up the Uncle Tupelo tradition more, got so boring so fast. immediately after Trace that is.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 10 June 2004 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, and Psycho (goes back to watching "The State")

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 10 June 2004 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

My wife loves him. Him and Ethan Hawke. And me.

-- AdamL :')

so we can assume that your wife likes smarmy bastards?

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 10 June 2004 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I love that Vince Vaughn is playing the Owen Wilson character from "Old School" in "Dodgeball". (Watch the previews and tell me this isn't true.)

Also, Mrs Stiller HOORAY!!!!! "I just threw up in my mouth a little."

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 June 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

isn't he always playing that character?

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 10 June 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

(psst don't you mean Luke Wilson?)

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 10 June 2004 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Err, yes. Luke Wilson. (The Stiller Connection threw me off.)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 June 2004 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

isn't he always playing that character?

NO, he always plays the Vince Vaughn character (Aka the smug one with the horrible-but-hilarious ideas).

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 June 2004 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Just think about Zoolander people.

Allyzay, Thursday, 10 June 2004 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

This is from a ways back, but I still think it's hilarious...

Sample dialogue if Hal Hartley wrote a Batman movie:

BATMAN: Damn, where the hell did I put that bat suit?
ROBIN: Do you think Cat Woman digs me?
BATMAN: I swear I left it in the closet in the Bat Cave.
ROBIN: Don't swear; you're a role model. Maybe I should write her poetry.
BATMAN: Role models are human; and, therefore, flawed.
ROBIN: That's no excuse. Children look up to you.
BATMAN: What makes you think Cat Woman digs you?
ROBIN: That's what Alfred said.
BATMAN: How would Alfred know?
ROBIN: When was the last time Alfred was wrong?
BATMAN: Good point.
ROBIN: Thanks.
BATMAN: Think he knows where my bat suit is?
ROBIN: Probably. Why don't you ask him?
BATMAN: I would, but he's with Cat Woman right now.
ROBIN: Do you think she digs me?
BATMAN: I don't know. Why don't you write her some poetry?
ROBIN: I'm not a poet. I'm just some lame sidekick who wears funny, ugly clothes and a stupid mask that barely conceals my vacuous identity.
BATMAN: Don't take it so hard.
ROBIN: Why not?
BATMAN: I don't know. It just seemed like the right thing to say.
ROBIN: Why say anything?.
BATMAN: I have to. I'm a role model.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 10 June 2004 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

So I take it I'm the only guy who wants to see every movie Ben Stiller in existence?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Ben Stiller movie. sigh.

I'll probably end up seeing Dodgeball in the theaters.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Dodgeball looks hilarious. I'd be fine with one Stiller/Wilson, Stiller/Vaughn, Vaughn/Wilson every year, but no more than that.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

seriously. How much coke is being ingested at Stiller/Vaughn Towers?

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

But it has dodgeball! It is probably the only sport I ever excelled at, it deserves a sports movie even it does turn out to be a cheesetastic comedy.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

TS: Dodgeball v Kickball

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Both have merit, but Dodgeball is far superior to Kickball.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

either way, you will lose your glasses in a manner hilarious to all but you

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Careful what you wish for. I remember when Eric Stoltz' ubiquity had reached an irritating critical mass, and I made a little wish for his death, under my breath -- and I swear I haven't seen him sense. (Not that I'm complaining.)

Aaron A., Thursday, 10 June 2004 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

either way, you will lose your glasses in a manner hilarious to all but you

Ah but you forget that I didn't start wearing glasses until I was about 29. My prime ___ball playing days were already behind me then.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 10 June 2004 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm really surprised how funny I find the concept of Eric Stoltz dying. Is it his fault or mine?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 10 June 2004 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.tvtome.com/images/people/7/2/3-16984-sm.jpg

Exhibit A in the "his fault" column

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 10 June 2004 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah but you forget that I didn't start wearing glasses until I was about 29

whaddaya mean I forgot? You never told me that!

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Friday, 11 June 2004 02:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Definitely no more Ben Stiller/Vince Vaughn movies. Ben belongs with nobody but Owen Wilson.

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Friday, 11 June 2004 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm a little worried about Vince Vaughn trying to expand his comedic range. He's the only good thing about Made and Swingers.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 11 June 2004 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Kickball rules over dodgeball-
http://www.orphanskickball.com

I can never truly dislike B. Stiller, because I have seen Heat Vision and Jack.

autovac (autovac), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

eight years pass...

"the watch" is just a 2012 riff on ghostbusters right

un® (dayo), Monday, 18 June 2012 00:15 (thirteen years ago)

Levy described his original vision as a "PG-13 kind of Ghostbusters-y thing."[16][17]

bronytheus (some dude), Monday, 18 June 2012 00:37 (thirteen years ago)

if that means that vince vaughn is this generation's bill murray, god that's so depressing
