best line of dialogue ever:

"Oh GREAT! you've KILLED the Invisible Swordsman!"

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I was hoping this was about Moses.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

also, Randy Newman was the Voice of the Singing Bush

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

We are the three A-mi-gos..

We are the three AAA-mi-gos...

We are the threeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeAAAAAAA-mi-gos!

Broheems (diamond), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

hm... They actually held out the first syllable of "Amigos" rather than the "three," didn't they?

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually Kingfish, I think the best line in there is only funny contextually, and it's when El Guapo opens one of his birthday gifts:

"A sweater!"

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

pedant of the year award!!

Broheems (diamond), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

the three amigos was one of the films that my brothers and I got out regularly on our saturday night rentavideo treat. the others as i recall were: Dragnet, Police acedemy 3-5, The star wars trilogy, spaceballs and short circuits 1&2.

what good taste we had.

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I hardly ever roll out the pedantic stuff. Needless to say, this award was pretty unexpected. I really don't think of myself as a pedant. I want to thank all the little people.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

YES! Best line of the whole movie: "It's a sweater!"

The whole Chevy Chase/"on the veranda" exchange is pretty classic too.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, to be precise, he says "It's a SWEATER!"

(xpost)

Plus, the actor who plays his sidekick Jefe, later went on to be one of the sheriffs in _Lone Star_ and play the voice of Manny Calavera in one of the greatest computer games ever created, _Grim Fandango_.

I have absolutely no fucking clue why i retain this shit; i just do.

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

And the way Martin Short can tell it's a mail plane.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

xpost ... that was to NA

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck this, I'm way more pedantic, I deserve the prize.

that's all.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha, I totally didn't get that joke as a kid.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I knew about Jefe voicing Manny in Grim Fandango, but not about Lone Star.

Dammit, now I'm seriously considering diggin out that game this weekend and playing it again. That was a pretty genius game, and I know I still have it... Same guy wrote that game who did Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle... I kinda want to play those again too now.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck this, I'm way more pedantic, I deserve the prize.

Stence, I'd totally give you the prize if you'd have said something like "actually, to be precise, I'm the most pedantic."

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

WE PRUNED THE HEDGES

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

RAPED THE HORSES

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

AND RODE OFF ON THE WOMEN

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

martin I was registering disgust with my pedantry.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh, they appear to have done away with the quotes section on the IMDB!!!

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Pardon, but isn't it actually IMDb (small 'b') thx

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:44 (twenty-two years ago)

now that's some classic pedantry. Good show, Gear!

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

plz capitalize the first letter of a sentence thx

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Tim Schafer did it, and many of ther Lucasarts gems, such as FUll Throttle, the first two Monkey Island games, and the upcoming Psychonauts

(xpostie)

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

xpost please learn to spell, snotbreath.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL PEDANTRY VOL. 17

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

volume five is better.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks for the update, e.e. cummings.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I never played the Monkey Island games, tho I have been encouraged to do so by more than one person at different times.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

xpost to NA - shouldn't you be out getting gay-ass tattoos of tapes on your arm, sweetie?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

No, I already did that, Mr. Creepy Stalker Man.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Suck it, NA:

Cummings spelled his own name with conventional capitalization.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

< pedant> I wasn't referring to how hstencil spells his name, but how he fails to capitalize the first letter of his sentences. < /pedant>

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I love you, jaymc.

NA - posting details of your life on a public forum on the internet is not a good idea if you value privacy.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

All the MOnkey Island games are worth it, even it they differ in flavor and execution from one to another.

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you guys talking about the tattoo that NA got around November 15, 2003?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 10 June 2004 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

hstence, we don't have to go through all this bullshit macho aggressive-banter-as-flirtation (ie, your intimate knowledge of my bodily markings, your wording re: "gay-ass tattoo"). If you like me, just send me flowers. Oh, and a copy of that Smog cd I can't find.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 10 June 2004 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the things they have to say to summon the invisible swordsman, especially "hfardeefardeefardeefarr"

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Thursday, 10 June 2004 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

dude I have a lot of pull but Billy Callahan is a lost cause.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 11 June 2004 05:38 (twenty-two years ago)

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 11 June 2004 05:49 (twenty-two years ago)
