The Libya/Saudi Arabia 'Qaddafi wants to kill the crown prince' circus

A quick precis, though there's gotta be more/something better elsewhere via the NY Times, apparently. Allegedly Qaddafi, annoyed by Crown Prince Abdullah, decided that said prince would be better off dead. Libyan responses have not been amused.

Sounds like there's a little jockeying going on over who gets to be America's big buddy over there. I mean, Qaddafi could have been plotting to kill Abdullah -- hard to see how it benefits him, exactly, but it's not like you can rule anything out where that crazy fucker's concerned. But on the surface, it looks like a smear to keep him isolated. He's weaseling his way back into the West's graces, he's getting oil contracts, and he's always fancied himself the proper leader of the Arab world. Not the kind of stuff that endears him to his autocratic peers. The whole Arab League's a nest of vipers. Is there a single respectable leader in the region? (Not that respectable leaders are exactly in abundance anywhere else these days.)

Can I just take the time to say that Qaddafi's all-female squad of bodyguards rule!!!! Please, someone post a picture. It's like a real-life Bond film.

I like when they are all lined-up behind him looking pissed. Sorry if I'm being sexist. it's just that they look so cool and then there is him and what HE is wearing....they rock! I didn't even know he had them until all these recent state visits of his. You gotta give it up for Mo. he's got flair.

Hmmm.

A leading US Muslim activist has admitted taking part in a Libyan plot to assassinate Saudi Arabia's de facto leader Crown Prince Abdullah.

Abdurahman Alamoudi also pleaded guilty to three charges of illegal business dealings with Libya as part of a plea bargain with the US government.

The founder of the American Muslim Council said he was a go-between for Libyan officials and Saudi dissidents.

Libya has denied plotting to assassinate the Crown Prince.

you'd think a dictator-for-life would manage to grant himself a rank a bit higher than Colonel.
