I nearly got on the Knight Bus thinking it was a 38

So I was running for the 38 the other night, since I saw a routemaster hanging out at my usual stop (Harpur St) but when I got close enough to jump on it, I realised it was actually purple and had three decks. WTF?

I rang the friend I was going to see, to explain why I was late, and she got really excited about this. Apparently it was something to do with Harry Potter. Fuck that, I want to go towards Shoreditch, not Quidditch.

What the heck is a Knight Bus, and what was it doing on Theobalds Road anyway? Someone please explain.

Alternately, talk about other stupid promotional stunts you've nearly been caught by.

wouldn't they let you on? i'm not sure i like the whole DYS overload of Harry Potter

sorry Kate, is this a dream or real? it's sounds very dreamlike :)

I saw the "Spice bus" in Sunbury once, at a filling station I had also stopped at. But I didn't get on. Or off.

Why on earth did you want to go to Shoreditch? There be assbutts.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 11 June 2004 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

is an assbutt half ass half butt? or is it an ass wearing a butt on their...head? i'm confused.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 11 June 2004 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Lady if you have to ask....!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 08:57 (twenty-two years ago)

is Barry trying to start an arguement?

To be fair I haven't been to Shoreditch in years, how is it these days?

chris (chris), Friday, 11 June 2004 09:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha-HEM, I used to live in Shoreditch and some of my friends still live there so I feel like I have to stick up for the place when certain folks call them assbutts, but regardless...

The stop actually says "Harpur Street - Towards Shoreditch" even though technically I was going to Hackney Central. Plus, Shoreditch rhymes with Quidditch, and I don't know what that means either, but it's something in Harry Potter and it rhymes with Shoreditch so voila, I made a funny joke that my HP nutter friend who I was going to see laughed at. Har har.

It was not a dream. It wasn't even the slightest bit dreamlike. If I'd have thought the bus would take me somewhere dreamlike and interesting, I might have been tempted to get on. But it just looked like it was going to take me somewhere Hollywood and promotional. It wouldn't take me to a wizard kingdom, it would take me on a sad junket to the land of the faded hacks or something. Hackney. Which is where I was going anyway, ha ha.

God, I need sleep.

i've seen that bus. about 2 years ago, near bank station.

i'm glad you added your last post, or i would have to ask why you were getting the 38 to shoreditch, when it doesn't go there.

did you wave when you went past my house?

was the purple bus actually moving? does it work?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

i like me the 38, the purple bus seems fun (esp. the way it compresses itself to fit between two other oncoming routemasters in the film, which i have not seen) too

AARGH I misread this as a Knight Boat thread! Dashed hopes!

Leee's a Simpson (Leee), Friday, 11 June 2004 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

But then Simon LeBon would have been driving it, silly.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Saturday, 12 June 2004 07:07 (twenty-two years ago)

and Mark C would be phoning the council to complain that it's blocking his sun

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 12 June 2004 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

But if you had got on the bus, you could have been a Knight Rider.

IAN JOHNSON TO THREAD --

I believe he once crashed his car following the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile

This thread is a tetch too geo-specific. Surely you all realize by now that this forum is dedicated exclusivement to matters relating to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York, USA, North America--its denizens, and the trucker hats they wear. Other communication should be conducted by owl.

I need more owls.

I don't think I like ILX at the weekend. It seems like no UK people have internet access outside their offices!

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Saturday, 12 June 2004 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Friend Stripey's dad owns all you people when it comes to owls.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 12 June 2004 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

My mate Barry's mate actually runs an owl rescue and rehabilitation centre. Aparently, there was a big run in buying owls as pets for children after Harry Potter, forgetting that they are LARGE AND SCARY CARNIVORES!!!

However, I think I still remain the only person that has actually taken an owl to a FAP.
