well, it is - isn't it?

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

it is amazing.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)

YES YES OH GOD YES

the surface noise and the analogue warmth (electricsound), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I wouldn't know. My pizza never lasts long enough to get cold. But my memory is that yes, it is quite fine.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)

in the words of that great philosopher, emma bunton, "what took you so long?"

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)

cold food generally when you wake up in the morning is amazing. and flat coke.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to have it for lunch - the Bread Shop on Brewer Street has tasty pizzas in the window, but last time I bought one I tried to microwave it and it was a bit of a disaster.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

we threw out about two thirds of a pizza this morning from last night. Vesuvio has gone to the dogs, they used to be sooo good, last nights were cold and flabby, what had I done to deserve such a .... lifeless, dull pizza?

chris (chris), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i have been known to buy a freshly made pizza and put it straight in the fridge for this very purpose

(obv i buy 2 and eat one warm)

the surface noise and the analogue warmth (electricsound), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:17 (twenty-two years ago)

apparently vesuvius blew up quite some time ago

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

well, i always knew it was alright, but this is a shit pizza and it wasn't that good hot - coldness, however, works a certain magic and makes any pizza good.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

why does pizza taste even better when reheated the next day? crispier, saucier, more flavourful... mmm.

stevie (stevie), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I think you might be on to something, is it just me or does Italian food REALLY benefit from being left for a day or so? Certainly I find a lasagne is better reheated than on the day you make it. Actually chilli can be like this too so maybe it's a tomato thing.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

The last pizza we had from our aptly titled local takeaway 'perfect pizza' was pretty rubbish. So I am not experiencing the loveliness that is hot or indeed cold pizza. Good for my waistline & pocket, not so good for my yearning for tasty pizza!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a sorry truth that waitrose or pizza express's supermarket pizzas are better than any I can order locally.

Mind you at work there's an amazing place nearby.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not just lasagne, a lot of big dish food is better the next day - everything from tagines to shepherds pie. It's all about the flavours having time to mingle and mellow.

(insert joke about lasagne = big dish here)

I went to Pizza Express last night for the first time in ages and they've gone back to proper sized pizzas. I struggled to finish my Parmense - a new one with parma ham, asparagus and an egg - but I managed it and even forced down some ice cream afterwards.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

anything essentially stewed - chilli, bolognese sauce, curry etc - is better left for a day. the sauce really works itself into the meat and the flavours blend properly. (top tip: if making stew, make it the day before you eat it). actually, cold pizza is not the best food ever, that still goes to white toast, leftover bolognese sauce, topped with cheese, placed under the grill till the cheese melts, another bit of toast slapped on top to make a sandwich.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Egg on a pizza just seems wrong to me!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:32 (twenty-two years ago)

omg Dave, I've been making bolognese sauce for so long and I've never thought of doing that. I'm making bolognese this weekend now fo sho.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i think you're all mental (as in cold is nice but nothing beats oven fresh)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Steve otm here.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

holy shit i want some reheated lasagne so badly right now, it is the food of champions

pete b. (pete b.), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmm, crusty bits round the edges.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Leftover pasta (esp. with a meat sauce) reheated with butter in a frying pan = heaven.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Whatabout leftover bolognese on top of an otherwise uninteresting shop bough pizza? This was James' drunken concoction t'other day!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Lasagne does taste better refridgerated and then reheated next day, as does Chinese takeaway

stevem (blueski), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

we're having lasagne on Sunday, but I'm making the sauce tomorrow - with the best that Borough has to offer

chris (chris), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Whatabout leftover bolognese on top of an otherwise uninteresting shop bough pizza?

there was no spagetti involved here was there?

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope, just some leftover sauce.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

well it sounds good. some extra cheese perhaps needed.

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep there was parmesan added!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

For dinner, with fizzy coke. For breakfast, with flat coke. So, so good.

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

AM EATING COLD PIZZA IT'S OKAY STOP

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i had reheated pizza twice this week. i put plastic cheese slices on top and put in microwave. was good.

have pizzas dropped drastically in price worldwide? used to be a$10 for one but now seems you can get 'em for a$5 or less and also they are better now (real tomato chunks!)

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Eugh! You're all insane.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

You don't like lubberly pizza Liz?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I like it well enough. But cold? Eheww. I realise that I am in a teeny minority though, and will probably be persecuted for my views until the day I die (from rocks thrown at me by menko cold-pizza scoffers).

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh, so what do you do with leftover pizza? Or do you try to scoff it all when it's hot? I would be inclined to opt for the latter!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Umm mostly I have pizza in restaurants; if I have it at home it'll normally be with someone else, and we'll have got a size of pizza that can be comfortably finished in one sitting. Am I sadly overefficient?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

When I order food I think part of the fun is ordering way too much.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 11 June 2004 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

This is why okcupid tells me I'm more organised than everyone else :(

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 11 June 2004 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Steaming hot pizza IS better. Mozzarella doesn't like being cooled down at all. The tomato sauce on the Bread Shop pizza was heavenly, though.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 11 June 2004 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Pizza is better reheated. It seems strangely flavourless when cold the next morning.

stevie (stevie), Friday, 11 June 2004 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

that may be the point Stevie, along the lines of my idea for a bland food stall at Glasto - which would sell plain toast, porridge and plain, soothing foods like that.

I would call it Blandfood Forum

chris (chris), Friday, 11 June 2004 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

mmmm, beige food.

stevie (stevie), Friday, 11 June 2004 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

precisely

chris (chris), Friday, 11 June 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I would totally go to your stall Chris! porridge & toast for breakfast, lunch & dinner. num!

You are not overefficient Liz, merely disciplined. I always seem to order more & then i have to eat it the next day!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll give you blandfood forum, indeed...

anyway, the most soothing food at glasto is the YORKSHIRE PIE AND PEAS, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 11 June 2004 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

totally. the girl says, "YOU WANT GRARVAH?"

so sexy.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 11 June 2004 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I am trying to work out quite which accent you are representing there.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 11 June 2004 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Room temperature pizza the next morning with a big cup of coffee, CLASSIC. I don't like it cold, and so far my 30-hour rule has kept me from food poisoning.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Sooner or later, everyone realises the greatness of cold pizza.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i bought a slice on the way home last night but fell asleep before i could eat it. it was sitting on the coffee table, crusted over, this morning. i was not tempted to give it a try.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

just think how much you EUROS would like cold pizza even better if you lived someplace that made it well.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

lauren, that is a shameful waste of good food, THINK OF THE CHILDREN IN AFRICA (and how gooooood cold pizza is) etcetc

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

As I remember, Italy is in Europe.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 11 June 2004 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

PIZZA WAS INVENTED IN CONNECTICUT

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 11 June 2004 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

New Haven - Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napolentana — And on THIS very spot, the pizza (at least as most Americans know it) was invented. And you can still order and eat one.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 11 June 2004 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

It was ALWAYS BLOODY CLOSED when my mum and I went to go there! She kept insisting it was wonderful and I never got to find out. Then she graduated and I never will.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

next time you come to the States, I'll take you.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 11 June 2004 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

(surely the fact it's called a "Neapolitan pizzeria" implies a certain Eurocentric origin?)

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

okay, you invented, we perfected.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Those are fighting words. I may have to persuade sgs to have a takeaway pizza tonight to prove how wrong you are (to our stomachs).

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

your loss.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 11 June 2004 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I await the proving.

sgs (sgs), Friday, 11 June 2004 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

PIZZAVILLE

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Friday, 11 June 2004 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Cold pizza is the best! I always think of people who don't like it as being slightly suspect.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 11 June 2004 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Cold Pizza is pretty darned heavenly.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Friday, 11 June 2004 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

re-heated pizza is better than cold, esp if it's stuffed pizza. the cheese gets even more globby.

oops (Oops), Friday, 11 June 2004 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

(and that's a good thing)

oops (Oops), Friday, 11 June 2004 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)
