a somewhat gross mutation of being hip would be prioritising it to a level above it's station - jumping on every bandwagon you see, abandoning good people and places just because other people you'd like to know don't approve, championing junk at the time only to turn around later and bray 'what were they thinking?!' and generally not having much to say that doesn't revolve around the temporary or untested
