Any one else watching this?
I got so steamed to see how many lamo hack moved on when a few of the really funny people got cut. Though Bonnie McFarlane (sp???) is gonna be in the house and I've had a crush on her for years.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 05:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't keep up with all the names, but there's been some funny shit. I really like that Indian guy from Chicago (I think it was Chicago). Overall, I think the judges do a good job, I usually agree with all their picks. How bout that Buck Star fucker, though, huh? You gotta admire dude's tenacity.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 06:08 (twenty-two years ago)

What was weird about the BuckStar was that he never seemed to get it.
I'm terrible with the names too, I just know Bonnie McFarlane (or possibly MacFarland?) because she had done a special here in Canada. And it was really funny and sexy. Funny women drive me apeshit. In a good way.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I sincerely loathed the way Buck Star was used in the pilot. You just know by the second time he showed up they planned on rejecting him right up to the final city, at which point they'd give him a magic pass to the "later that night" round... and then reject him again. That's cruel.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmm. How do you feel about Laura Kightlinger? She used to get me in a bit of an uproar way back when she hosted Stand Up Stand Up - remember that? I'm also crazy for Amy Sedaris but for a myriad of non-sexual reasons.

Yeah, Buck Star was one oblivious fuck - but, hey, we're talking about him, and using his name, fer chrissakes, so, you know, mission accomplished, Buck. I admit I was a little touched when he was talking about how supportive his dad was and he started crying.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 06:15 (twenty-two years ago)

You mean because his dad kept giving him money? I couldn't muster a lot of sympathy for him. Mainly because he had no act!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 06:24 (twenty-two years ago)

It's true. He was bad news. Like Carrot Top reborn as a keg-standing frat dude.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 06:25 (twenty-two years ago)

that jim norton guy is funnier than shit. the thing about cutting off the escort's head had me rolling. I'm surprised they even let that on the air.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 06:45 (twenty-two years ago)

and then they got all in a tither because Bonnie used "the c-word"

Huk-L, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 06:48 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.messinabaker.com/clients/bonnie_mcfarlane/images/headshot1.jpg

smart, funny, raunchy, hot, and Canadian. She is the reason I want to be a comedian.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

HOW THE HELL DID DAT PHAN WIN LCS1?!?!??!?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

DAVER PAINFULLY OTM.

I'm boycotting this season's because of how well Dat and RALPHIE MAY I HATE YOU BOTH did.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i saw laura kightlinger two weeks ago. not. funny.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

sorta hot in a barmaid / aging record store clerk kinda way, though, huh? She's funny in her Stop Smiling interview this month, too.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

So what was the cunt joke?

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 04:05 (twenty-two years ago)

She started out by talking about how her agent calls her "sweetheart" and most women would be offended by that by to her, it's a big step up from what she was called before: [bleep!]
and then everyone was all like, "I can't believe she just said the c-word!"
Ant, specifically, seemed to be convinced she'd just ended her career.
Looking back, she may have said "cocksucker" because that would have fit the rhythm better.
It was on in Canada on Monday night, and in the States on Tuesday. I didn't realize that (Cdns get both Cdn and USA TV, because we won the War of 1812), and I hope I didn't ruin anybody's night.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 16 June 2004 04:18 (twenty-two years ago)

As an American I didn't pay attention to your posts, Huck.

That Bonnie lass is hott and more importantly hott funny! I wonder if she's American, and not some skeevy Hab!

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 04:28 (twenty-two years ago)

But seriously folx, I appreciated how she appears able to do physical heh heh comedy.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 04:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I felt bad for the stripper. Except that she wasn't really very good. But she was at least as good as that married lady. Woo! When will America learn? Married pretty women aren't funny. Divorced pretty women? Funny. Married plain/sub-plain women? Funny. Married pretty women (and yes, I'm being generous)? Nuh-uh.

And really, I distinctly remember watching the Bonnie McFarlane special a few years ago and thinking, "damn, if I was a comedian, she'd probably talk to me." So there you go.

The show sort of gives me mixed ideas about my own comedic aspirations and ambitions. One the one hand, I have better material than a lot of the people (though not that much of it yet). On the other hand, I really need to bust out some charisma or something. And I really envy people who live in cities with actual comedy clubs and watching this really made me want to go out and work a crowd. Maybe I should do like Bernie Mac did and do my act on public transit.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 16 June 2004 04:38 (twenty-two years ago)

and by "pretty" I'm talking more about the way the women present themselves, maybe "glamourous" would have been a better word, though that's too strong. "Done-up"? "Dolled-up"?
Because, really, all women are beautiful.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 16 June 2004 04:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm crying on the inside.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 04:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, that Dan Naturman guy was robbed last night. He was much funnier than several of the ones who actually made it into the house.

The exec producer trying to explain it away ("Uh...actually there are 8 people voting, not 4...we put that in a 5-font blurb in the credits!") for damage control was pretty pathetic. They don't seem to realize if they actually went with picking more talented comedians over the "token-fillers to create tension" (the gay guy, who was sooo not funny; the left-of-center 'eccentric' comedian channeling Steven Wright, etc.) that makes reality shows so lame and uninteresting, then the show would sell itself.

Joe (Joe), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I think they were looking for people who would be constantly 'on' (like that poor attention-starved Glass fellow). Naturman seemed too focused and self-contained to make good television.

S. Epatha, Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i was too busy arguing about gun control and abortion and i forgot to watch tv!!! So - did the iranian guy get into the house? I was particularly fond of the tall guy - his shtick about the milkman was hilarious. "Yes, my mother only has sex with men with archaic jobs."
Did the weird guy with the Weird Al hair get to stay? Please inform.

aimurchie, Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

No, really - someone PLEASE answer my question re: DAT PHAN WINNING LCS1! The guy a) had fucking hand-made SPREADSHEETS charting the ebbs & flows of his routines, b) was (rightfully, I guess) the pick-on magnet of the group (YOU DON'T PLAY HIDE & SEEK FOR OVER AN HOUR DUDE!), c) NEVER TOLD A JOKE ON CAMERA (in the few episodes I saw). Last one I caught, the LCS showdown was between Ralphie May (w/ everyone, inexplicably, calling him "the best") and the endearingly awkward "Bobert" guy (who TOTALLY pwned him - Ralphie was good, but he seemed really jittery & awkward & played out w/ the "edgy" Chris Rock / Tough Crowd racial thing) (OK, I'm a fucking geek that gloms onto folks making jokes around the made-up name "Bobert") (& I need my comedic racial commentary interspersed between Colin Quinn insults). Then, I flip to Comedy Central during a baseball game a couple weeks later, and I see DAT PHAN in the final 5???!?!? Did he bone Jay Mohr?

More inexplicable - the guy from Minnesota didn't make the final 5. I figured either that guy or Rich Vos would win.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw Bonnie McFarlane and Rich Vos on Colin Quinn the other night and it was embarrassingly unfunny.

Maria D., Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Re: Naturman being robbed.

Drew Carey and Brett Butler raised a stink about how the show was constructed back in March (link).

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Was Naturman the one with the prison rape jokes?

Klirn, Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I was a cocktail waitress at the Seattle Improv for three years (off and on). great money - 20% gratuity added into the check, and most people didn't notice that part and tipped me as well. Todd Glass was a regular on the circuit then - did he make it into the house? I loved/hated that job - i ended up meeting a lot of comedians. Drew Carey loved the Seattle Improv because he loved hanging out with the staff. it was nice to see his career go on to great heights. Todd Glass, however. I don't remember finding his performance in the first episode particularly funny - but he made it into the semi-finals. Did he get into the house?
i almost feel like an expert on comedy because of those Improv years. I saw a great deal of comedy. believe me, after awhile, nobody is funny. Except Judy Tenuta.

aimurchie, Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave: I'm guessing sympathy vote. Dat was the one everyone picked on for like the first four episodes. I thought his act was decent, even though he doesn't seem like a very funny person.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I liked the way the hot Sicilian momma talked.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Saturday, 19 June 2004 23:33 (twenty-one years ago)

BOOOOO BOOOOO BOOOO!
Though what a dumb move she made.
Hmmm, my comedy is slightly antagonistic and cruel, I'll choose to go up against a guy whose routine mainly consists of endearing himself to the audience, how can I lose?

I still love you Bonnie. Call me.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously, Bonnie, call me.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

bonnie was really unfunny last night. she deserved to go.

Sir Chaki McBeer III (chaki), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

she still would have won against the fake sicilian lady. but yeah, there was no question John or Jim or whatever was the better comic.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Hcuk tell me, are all comedians stupid?

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Uh, just the professionals.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I laughed more heartily and often at Bonnie's set than the other dude's, even if she did recycle a lot of the jokes from her Vegas gig.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Make that "laughed with."

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

that's the thing, everytime the comics hit the stage they're going to be using what they think is their best material, so mostly the TV audience will just see the same jokes over and over.
They'll all have to drop that material for a while now, I'd assume, since it's getting played EVERY WEEK on TV. Way to kill jokes, NBC!

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

What was the point of Corey winning that contest if he could still be eliminated (someone voted for him)? Did it go from immunity challenges -> things to do to relieve boredom?

Vinnie (vprabhu), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

It was a chance to showcase for drunk industry types.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

You speak the truth.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

For Dave, explaining Dat Phan's success.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

haha Ant's going to hell BUT NOT BECAUSE HE LIED ON THE TOUR BUS WTF OMG LOL!!

Picard Maneuver (Leee), Thursday, 1 July 2004 04:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Jay Mohr a comedian?

Picard Maneuver (Leee), Thursday, 1 July 2004 05:16 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
Jay London is a joke. No, make that a one-liner.

This is getting dragged out.

The Dreaded Rear Admiral (Leee), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 05:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, but did Alonzo own that crowd or what? If the metaphor wasn't tainted by last season's winner, I'd say he's a comedy ninja.
He's a jerk, from what we've seen on the show, but I will be shocked if he doesn't win this.

Huck, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 05:23 (twenty-one years ago)

He definitely killed. But I'll be shocked if the tv audience shows any discernment and not give Jay London another sympathy vote. For crying out loud, Corey Feldman came in 4th for the wild card!

The Dreaded Rear Admiral (Leee), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 05:27 (twenty-one years ago)

where did bonnie come in? I voted for her because she obviously doesn't care anymore and I think she's hysterical. I still hope Kathleen Madigan winds.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 05:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Bonnie placed last in the Wild Card voting. But her style is abrasive, and it's more or less a popularity contest, so, like, she did good anyhow. I still love you Bonnie, and I'm ready to be your protege!
The more I see Jay London, the more I like him. And I liked him at first.

Pescalotti seemed really loose tonight, which worked for her. I think she understands the key to getting votes. I don't think she'll make it to the next round though, on account of being the least funny person on the show. Including Ant.

Huck, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 05:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Big reveal tonight, who's gonna make the final three?

Alonzo, definitely. That guy kicks ass.
John, maybe.
either Jay or Gary or the woman who's name escapes me right now (i.e., not Tammy)

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

you people are crazy. bonnie is awful.

Sir Chaki McBeer III (chaki), Thursday, 5 August 2004 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Awful hot.

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

There, there...you're both right.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 5 August 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Right hot.

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

yes i agree she is hot but she's a really bad standup. the whole lot is pretty weak. no one really "great." just a bunch of mediocres.

Sir Chaki McBeer III (chaki), Thursday, 5 August 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Mediocres hot.

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

okay, that didn't work so well.

Bonnie McFarlane is too good. And so is Alonzo Boden.
THe others...not so much. Jay London's really hit or miss, but his hit stuff is pretty awesome. His whole moving the mic stand thing drives me nuts.
Jon what's his face, I like him okay. I can see him going far. He's more likable than necessarily funny.

Half of them are better than Jay Mohr.

Huck, Thursday, 5 August 2004 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I only like Alonzo. Though I haven't watched the last few episodes.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 5 August 2004 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Zo definitely in. Tammy and Hefron will round out the finalists if people realize that London isn't funny. (His "This is death"/repeating the jokes is beaten into the ground horse! Does he have to do it EVERY TIME? GRR.)

Jimmy Carter, History's Greatest Monster (Leee), Thursday, 5 August 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I'M GOING TO HAVE TO SIT THROUGH TWO MORE HOURS OF JAY MOHR'S MCING?????

Jimmy Carter, History's Greatest Monster (Leee), Friday, 6 August 2004 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

the women are out. criminal!

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 6 August 2004 04:18 (twenty-one years ago)

To be honest, I didn't think much of Kathleen Madigan's two sets, and on the whole she was too MOR for me. But Tammy, especially compared with Gary, was much better.

Jimmy Carter, History's Greatest Monster (Leee), Friday, 6 August 2004 04:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Tammy's set last night wasn't nearly as good as the one she did Tuesday. Gary is growing on me, but both he and John Heffron get further on being likable than being funny. Which is okay, I guess.
Heffron I can see on a sitcom. Not starring, but as the neighbour or something.

Huck, Friday, 6 August 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

ANXIOUSLY AWAITING THE RETURN OF DAT PHAN AND RALPHIE MAY!

Mr. Tony Plow (Leee), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

It feels like this show has been on for like 8 months.

na (Nick A.), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the Oscars of reality comic shows.

Mr. Tony Plow (Leee), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

just give it to alonzo already and stop with the pretense

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Going purely on their sets from last night, I'd give it to Heffron. He killed.
Throughout the whole series, Alonzo owned, but last night, Heffron stepped up.
Could've been the positioning, though. Cuz Alonzo's closed pretty regularly. And it's not like Jay Mohr's been doing actual material, so Alonzo was working a cold audience. But that's life, buddy.
Still, Alonzo is probably the guy on the show I would most like spend time with, to pick his brain and stuff and learn from.

Huck, Thursday, 12 August 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

http://jerome.galica.free.fr/marvel/X-Men/xforce/phat.gif

Ralphi May, Billy Bob Reilly aka "Phat" called, he wants his white "brutha" shtick back.

Mr. Tony Plow (Leee), Friday, 13 August 2004 03:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Once he quit talking about how street he is, Ralphie was pretty funny.
But in next season, the Season Two cast is gonna wail on those hacks from Season One.

Huck, Friday, 13 August 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)
