Have you heard about this? I heard about it on the news last night and couldn't believe it. I was so annoyed.

(I'll try to find some links now).

Here, from Drowned in Sound:

I think it's, probably, for the best.

Yeah, all those beautiful boarded-up windows will now see the light of day.

Why were you annoyed. I am not too fussed about the attractiveness of flyposting per se, but in many ways corporate take over of much flyposting is both a delegation of lawbreaking to the frontline and also robbing individual groups of one of the few truly egalitarian forms of promotion. Flyposting in London has actually got a pretty bad reputation for violence when indivudual gangs trespass on each others territories, and this is precisely because the big record companies spend a lot of money on it.

I like to see someone attacking the cause sometime: I love corporate responsibility.

It's hardly antisocial behaviour is it?

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd be annoyed if any of my council tax money was being spent cleaning posters off. I'm sure there are far better things Camden Council could be spending their money on.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 09:07 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, it is.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 09:07 (twenty-two years ago)

We have to pay to get flyposters taken off of our building, the council won't do it (and I am in council here). And it costs.

This is actually very savvy politicking. How much money will it take to identify the record company involved in flyposting. Next to none. Send them a counrt summons, which will probably be settle out of court with a nice pay day to the council.

dude, they do cowley road about every two months don't they?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

If they didn't Cowley Road would be a one lane road by now.

Oh.

I see.

Don't get me started. Although I do rather like flyposters as an indication of a healthy creative subculture, the corporate takeover aspect of it disgusts me to such an end that I support this move. Don't bust the small Camden clubs or the low level bands, bust asshats like BMG and Sony. I think this is a very good policy.
