So who has seen some HG Lewis movies?

Yeah, leave it to I Love Film I guess, but I'm presuming someone here might have seen them. I'm gonna revisit Two Thousand Maniacs! soon, which I recall really enjoying, but the rest of his stuff never really swung much with me.

I've seen Two Thousand Maniacs! as well as another one of his films, the title of which I can't remember at the moment. They were really boring and poorly filmed. The theme music for Maniacs! is sort of amusing, though.

"The South is gonna rise again - Yeeeeeeeeeehaw"

the gore gore girls is so, so classic.

also, this quote by the man himself is pure gold:

"I see filmmaking as a business and pity anyone who regards it as an artform and spends money based on that immature philosophy." (full interview at http://www.brightlightsfilm.com/34/lewis.html)

Blood Feast is awesome.

I'd say something about "Suburban Roulette", but then I'd be contributing to this thread by doing so.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

agreed about blood feast, totally. best of the blood trilogy by a long shot, but i think the aforementioned (by me...how lame) gore gore girls and the wizard of gore are, of what i've seen, his best.

avoid a taste of blood though: boring and overlong.

i saw his dick in short cuts. he's kinda hung

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Was HG in Short Cuts? Damn, now I need to watch that (I didn't make it all the way through that movie). I thought "The Gore Gore Girls" and "The Wizard of Gore" were awful, and very misogynistic, personally. "Blood Feast" is kinda dull, not as bad as "Color Me Blood Red" though. Never saw the forty years later sequel to "Blood Feast". Anyone?

(Huey Lewis joke.)

Why the HELL hasn't She-Devils On Wheels been mentioned yet?

I actually own Two Thousand Maniacs on DVD for some reason...

AaronHz (AaronHz), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

...and John Waters is a huge Herschell Gordon Lewis fan, e.g. the Blood Feast clips shown in Serial Mom, the fawning interview with him in Waters' book Shock Value.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 04:02 (twenty-two years ago)

does he not also appear in the blood feast sequel? (i haven't seen it and could very well be wrong, but i seem to remember an interview where he said he was going to be a priest who gets killed in it)

joseph (joseph), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 04:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, according to imdb, John Waters is in Blood Feast 2: All U Can Eat (2002) as "The Reverend". I'd like to see it. It's the first real HG Lewis feature since 1972.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 05:23 (twenty-two years ago)

John Waters also made a homage to HG called "Multiple Maniacs". It has so far escaped DVD (I believe). "Blood Feast 2" is available in 3 different versions, and I hear it has a lot of tits.

three years pass...

The Gruesome Twosome is one of the greatest movies ever. It might be my favorite of his movies
