American Idol host agrees judge Simon Cowell is arrogant and pompous
SINGAPORE (AP) — Ryan Seacrest, the host of singing competition American Idol, said judge Simon Cowell is arrogant and pompous and says things that are “too harsh,” a report said Wednesday.
But Seacrest added that Cowell was a good friend and the “most honest” of the show’s three judges, in an interview with the Straits Times newspaper in Singapore, where a local version of the program is planned.
“I think that he’s pompous. I think that he’s arrogant. So my feelings about him, and the way that I address him on air, are very real,” the 29-year-old Seacrest said in the interview.
Cowell is famous for his searing putdowns of contestants who do not, in his opinion, make the grade with their performances.
“I think he says things that are at times a bit too harsh and could probably convey them in a different light so that they don’t crush a young person’s dream,” Seacrest said.
Last month, a record 65 million U.S. phone votes were cast in the finale of the latest American Idol season. Fantasia Barrino, a 19-year-old single mother, emerged as the tearful winner.
Seacrest said the show “will certainly be on air for the next few years.”
“There’s no telling what will happen after that but as long as people are watching it, then we should make the show,” he said.

Is it wrong for me to hate on celebrities I almost never see? It's self-indulgent, to say the least.

"Seacrest out." = le bag de douche

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you think "Seacrest out." is code for "Hey, I'm gay, I can't believe I'm saying I'm gay here on national TV all the time and you dumbfucks don't even realize it."

What a tosser.

It would be cool though if "seacrest" was a verb, like "rock" (as in "to rock"/"rocking"/etc). Then he would be saying "SEACREST OUT!" like "SEACREST OUT WITH YOUR LANYARDS OUT!".

Oh no wait it's still totally poncey.

Further to the predictable banality of this thread:

Martha Stewart Living finds new home at the Style Network in U.S.
NEW YORK (AP) — The Martha Stewart Living television show, which will be on hiatus after the current season, has found a new home on The Style Network.
Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. announced Wednesday that it has signed a multi-year agreement with The Style Network to air existing episodes of Martha Stewart Living, which was floundering with its star and host facing a prison sentence.
The program will air nationally in the U.S. on weekdays during prime time beginning this month.
As part of the agreement, the companies also announced that they will produce four new original programming specials about weddings.
The programming will include episodes of Martha Stewart Living as well as repackaged “best of” specials, including repackaged wedding specials. The Martha Stewart Living television library consists of 1,500 hours of programming.
Production of the syndicated television show, distributed by King World Productions, will continue for the rest of its 11th season, through September. Its market reach has been cut nearly in half as affiliates dropped the show following Stewart’s conviction in March for lying about a stock sale.
Stewart, who faces sentencing July 8, is requesting a new trial.
Sharon Patrick, president and CEO of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, said Wednesday’s announcement underscores how the company continues to evolve the Martha Stewart Living show and brand label on television.
“Our multi-year partnership with Style provides a ‘home on cable’ for the series that ensures that our loyal audiences will continue to have expanded access to Martha Stewart and the Martha Stewart Living television series during the 2004-2005 network syndication hiatus and beyond,” she said.
The Style Network, part of E Networks, is available in 36 million households across the United States.

which isn't really remarkable except for the use of the phrase existing episodes in the second graf, which seems to be newspeak for reruns.

one month passes...
On-Air With Ryan Seacrest cancelled, but network open to another projet
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The syndicated TV series On-Air With Ryan Seacrest is going off the air, permanently.
Seacrest was unable to turn his visibility as host of Fox’s American Idol into success for the talk and music show and low ratings led Twentieth Television on Tuesday to announce the end of production.
“I am proud of my team who worked tirelessly every day,” Seacrest said in a statement. “I wouldn’t have changed anything about this entire experience and I look forward to building my business within Twentieth Television.”
The Fox TV-owned studio said it believed the goal of providing viewers with “an engaging and alternative source of entertainment” was accomplished.
“It was our desire that the program would appeal to a wide array of viewers but, unfortunately, the marketplace’s response was not as strong as we had hoped,” the studio said in a statement.
On-Air, which debuted in January from a studio in the complex where the Academy Awards are presented, will be broadcast through Sept. 17.
Seacrest, 29, will remain with American Idol, the hit talent-search series, which returns for its fourth season in January. He’ll also keep his day job as host of the Los Angeles radio show On-Air With Ryan Seacrest, and with the weekly countdown show American Top 40.
Twentieth, which picked up a second-season option with Seacrest less than a month ago — and which Tuesday described him as bringing “a high level of talent and class to the industry” — could be back in business with him on another project.
An “appropriate project” would be a strong possibility, a Twentieth spokesman said Tuesday.

A friend of mine is good friends with one of the producers on his show, and confirms that he is indeed one of the most annoying, plastic people to ever work with, even by hollywood standards. But what can you expect from a man who's mrketing strategy was to appear as "a likable fake" ?

Vic (Vic), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, where is the love?
You may not like me because I'm handsome, wealthy, and sleeping with Kathleen Turner, but you have to admit I'm the greatest thing to happen to commercial radio since the canned fart.

Seacrest out.
