videocassette repair advice urgently sought

I am dead. My flatmate's video machine (= what we used to have before DVDs)just chewed up two of her prize videos she never watches, Amadeus and Gummo. Sure, it's her fault, as it's her machine, but SHE WON'T SEE IT THAT WAY.

It's just the first few seconds of each tape. I used to repair audio cassetttes with a blade and sticky tape. Can I unscrew, chop and repair a videocassette? Advice please.

if she never watches them she'll never know! or maybe if she eventually pops them in she'll think she did it!

That is fiendishly clever.

You could always buy new ones? I don't think that those two are hard to come by.

wrinkled the tape or literally chopped it?
did you used to be a tape cutter for reel-to-reel tape?

Just use a razor blade and scotch tape, it'll work fine. Put the scotch tape on both sides of the videotape.

Splice them together, it'll be the best movie ever!!!

careful not to knock out the little pieces inside after unscrewing the two halves!

Buy proper splicing tape from Tandy or DSE, and cut each end of the tape at a 45 degree angle. You don't want to be buggering up her heads and rollers with Scotch tape, innit.

When you play it back, the synch will be out for a bit, but the VCR's tracking will slide it back into action quickly enough. She'll never know.
