When old friends decide to move to where you live now

I just dropped an e-mail to a friend of mine to see how she's doing, and she wrote back that she's going to be moving to Los Angeles in about a month! I'm pretty psyched, since she's one of my best friends from high school and I've seen her on maybe four occasions since I moved out west. Of course she's aiming to live in Santa Monica and I'll be in Los Feliz at that time, but that won't be too big a deal.

it would be totally cool if this ever did happen, but ppl just *don't* move back to Oxford from London - it just never happens.

This thread has made me wonder whether I should figure out how many friends I've made in Oxford have subsequently moved to London, or whether it would totally freak me out and possibly depress me if I did.

I found out about a month after moving to Chicago that one of my high school friends already lived here. A pleasant surprise, really. We had dinner, she's gone shopping with my girlfriend (no doubt regaling her with tales of my past exploits), and we run into one another sometimes. Cool girl. We have our own lives though -- she's married and lives miles away. Mostly we stay in touch by reading and commenting on each other's blogs, just like we would if we lived on opposite ends of the earth.
