Where do you get information on State/Local elections?

So, how do you research the candidates & issues ?

newspapers, mainly.

Read the papers, talk to the neighbors, wonder if it's neccessary....

Most of our local issues are things like whether or not we need a damn trolley downtown, though my state is also going to have a "Fear of Homos Marryin'" initiative on the ballot this fall. I use common sense to vote on these things.

Even for things like judges & neighborhood issues? And like, should there be a tax on paperclips? (i.e. things that seem like they're no-brainers or too stupid to care about, that might have a bigger effect than it seems..) I don't see very good coverage, but then, our newspaper is a piece of shit, and it's also right-winged.

We don't vote on taxes on paperclips. Our Legislature does that.

As far as circuit judges and city council members, I ask around. I live in a town of 60,000 people, so it's easy to find the dirt about someone who's put their name out there.

We've got a pretty right-wing paper here, too. If it's something that's really minor, I've been known just to vote the opposite of whomever they endorsed.
