put your hands up if you love cgi hyenas!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

it's weird, this movie kinda sucked but i want to see the paul schrader version now. although from the descriptions i've read of it it sounds like the renny harlin version minus the cgi hyenas.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i have to see all these shitty movies for the montreal shitty film festival of shitty c-grade foreign films made for tv this week. i'm depressed.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

although it's actually kind of interesting to see what ACTUAL world cinema is like, like bad world cinema that doesn't make it over here

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought it looked scary. but then i scare more easily than a 5 yr old.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm intrigued about the Schrader one because it's literally an entirely different film, Harlin re-shot and recast the whole thing (aside from Skarsgaard and Izabella Scorupo)

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah it is a different film, but from the descriptions it doesn't sound all THAT different

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

i still love stellan skarsgaard though. and izabella scorupco was kinda sexy

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

also lauren it's really not very scary, it's actually kind of long and boring and it builds really slowly to this totally lame climax. although the beginning was kinda ok, i'm into that whole weird-ass ancient churches in africa thing

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i have to change the channel if the ad comes on. that's how wimpy i am.
re: ancient weird-ass african stuff, have you seen ganja and hess?

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll see it but after getting burned horribly, horribly, horribly on that damn Heath Ledger movie The Order, I expect nothing. I doubt it's worse than that.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:23 (twenty-one years ago)

don't see it gear, it's not worth it. maybe wait for the schrader (part of his deal with the prodco was that both versions would be released on dvd).

no i haven't lauren what's that?

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:23 (twenty-one years ago)

prolly could use some xenomorphs

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:24 (twenty-one years ago)

hell yeah, they'd be all "exorcise this"

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

http://dvdmaniacs.net/Reviews/E-H/ganja_and_hess.html

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a big "like, woah."

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i wanna see that

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:27 (twenty-one years ago)

holy shit it went no. 1 (18milly)

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:32 (twenty-one years ago)

it's late august.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I bet it's still about a bajillion krillion times better than Open Water, which made even Catwoman look like Citizen Kane.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:37 (twenty-one years ago)

you really hated that huh? i still kinda want to see it

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 August 2004 04:28 (twenty-one years ago)

oh my god, dude, the whole theater groaned when the credits rolled. I couldn't believe how bad it was.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 23 August 2004 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to see the Shraeder version of this film, maybe they'll put it out on the DVD. Even though I think he's wildly uneven (I loved Affliction, but I think Light Sleeper and Auto Focus are terrible), he was at least an interesting choice.

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 23 August 2004 05:13 (twenty-one years ago)

man do I need to see Exorcist II again. John Boorman was trippin' BALLS when he made that. Plus Richard Burton and Linda Blair do a mindmeld.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 23 August 2004 05:29 (twenty-one years ago)

there's a sudden jump shot to a tap dance sequence that probably stands as the scariest point of the movie.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 23 August 2004 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to make a film called Terror Tap about a mad slasher who does a little tap dance right before eviscerating his hapless victims.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 23 August 2004 05:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Gregory Hines...like you've never seen him before.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 23 August 2004 05:47 (twenty-one years ago)

may he rest in peace

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 August 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

ganja and hess is on dvd, s1ocki.

i wonder if the schrader version will come out on the dvd as a "bonus." or if it will be kept under wraps and thus inevitably develop some kind of reputation as a "masterpiece cruelly censored by the studio."

amateur!!st, Monday, 23 August 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

don't you guys read my posts?

(part of [Director Paul Schrader's] deal with the prodco was that both versions would be released on dvd)

So as not to burden the Internet with repeat opinions...

Ecomplex, Tuesday, 24 August 2004 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Jabootu does Exorcist II. It really does sound like something.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 04:11 (twenty-one years ago)

both Exorcist II and Zardoz imply that John Boorman was able to afford the GOOD shit after Deliverance

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 04:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Lauren, reprezent!

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

If you watch this as if it were a sequel to The Passion of the Christ then it's fucking ace.

Gribowitz (Lynskey), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

eight months pass...
Sooooo.... has anyone seen the Paul Schrader version of the prequel? I saw that the Harlin one is out on DVD this week, and thought that maybe Schrader's would be on a bonus disc, but it turns out it actually hit theaters on Friday with no promotion.

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 23 May 2005 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i wanna see it!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 May 2005 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going tonight, hoping to wash the taste of Star Wars out of my mouth.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 23 May 2005 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i want to see it but I'm afraid it will just be boring. I thought the original exorcist was boring, mind.

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 23 May 2005 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

also, I generally like Paul Schrader, but he made Light Sleeper which is easily oneof the worst movies ever

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 23 May 2005 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going tonight, hoping to wash the taste of Star Wars out of my mouth.

Please update with your success. Finding something worse than Star Wars won't be easy, but you may have indentified it.

I saw the Renny Harlin version, and didn't hate it, but ultimately, it wasn't scary. And that's kind of why you go to see the Exorcist in the first place.

EComplex (EComplex), Monday, 23 May 2005 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

It wasn't exactly good, but there were a number of good things about it. The actual 'horror' parts were mostly cheesy CGI, but the majority of the time was spent drawing parallels between colonialism and fascism, the evils perpetrated by man, etc. etc.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...

This movie was terrible.

Paul Schrader's version, "Dominion", was far from a classic, and not a great movie, but LEGIONS (no pun intended) better than this pile of shit. Essentially a 2 hour music video without music.

i'm w/ tato, super hot AND weird!! (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 25 March 2019 14:06 (seven years ago)

bloody meddling exorcists, always being judgemental on demons without ever listening to their side of the story!

calzino, Monday, 25 March 2019 14:11 (seven years ago)

no place for demon shaming.

calzino, Monday, 25 March 2019 14:12 (seven years ago)

still LOL at the moment where they explain why the building is pure evil because it's the exact spot Satan fell when he fell from grace, as if he actually took a shortcut through Earth on his way to Hell
