Your drunk self vs your sober self - FITE!!!

If it came down to it who would win? Does booze-induced self-confidence and "charisma" outweigh having at least some sense of judgement/propriety? (NB Substitute stoned/pilled if more appropriate)

Philter, Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never fought drunk, but my sober self is damn mean. I wouldn't want to fight me.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

My drunk self engages in conversations and debates that my sober self never would, sometimes because my sober self lacks the nerve, and sometimes because my drunk self lacks judgement. It cuts both ways.

Harold Media (kenan), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

My drunk self is just my sober self but with lounge singing as a substitute for logic, tact, and thrift.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Also there's Spilling drinks and food all over yourself like some sort of idiot

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

as a substitute for logic, tact, and thrift

next round's on me, you asshole.

Harold Media (kenan), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Whenever I was stoned/pilled, I seemed to enjoy touching things with other things that weren't intended for touching other things with. That seemed to be the abiding principle, at least.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:19 (twenty-one years ago)

i fight a LOT more when drunk. drunk me would probably win, therefore.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Harold Media (kenan), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

adam, you are strange

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

no

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

yes

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm trying to think of one thing that I do better when I'm drunk.

[thirty second pause]

I simmer down better when I'm inebriated, so the sober me would kick my drunk ass.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

This goes back to my habit of drinking a beer with one hand while punching my face with the other... while humping a pillow, maybe.

A. Pugilist, Tuesday, 24 August 2004 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

my sober self doesn't talk much to people he doesn't know that well, but loosens up a lot with the aid of alcohol. my sober self talks plenty to the people i know well though, and doesn't behave recklessly/stupidly/temperamentally like my drunk self *can* do sometimes. i'm not going to choose - both have strengths and weaknesses, and i'm glad i don't have to be one all the time.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I suspect my drunk self is a lot nicer.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i am mellow, friendly and witty when drunk. a slurry-voiced joy to be around. i cannot say this of my sober self.

purple patch (electricsound), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

My drunk self wouldn't think twice about kicking my sober ass, but it might miss a couple of punches and probably wouldn't remember who won the fight anyway. Tie.

Slim Pickens (Slim Pickens), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

My sober self appears to have issues with my drunk self. My drunk self wants to stay up all hours and do amazing feats. My sober self gets really annoyed at this. My drunk self says "Who's runnin' this show, anyhow?"

jim wentworth (wench), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

my sober self prolly wouldn't have gone up to the guy who used to sit next to my work crush in a club a couple of weeks ago and said "That girl you used to sit next to at work. She's absolutely gorgeous. What's her name?"

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a bell curve. A couple of beers turn me into a more talkative and outgoing person, but more than that, and I'm a sleepy boring drunk. I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE WE LEFT BEFORE NIGHTWATCH PLAYED OH NOOOOOOOO!

n.a. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

drunk self definitely invents more entertaining dances than sober self.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

drunk self is the world's BEST dancer. sober self sits at the side of the room and thinks "Dancing? Naaaah".

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't change much. i'm jus drunk, yknow?

g--ff (gcannon), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

also, drunk self is the world's best late-night dj (a bit on the pushy side, maybe, but always right),

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i can become quite a mellow pacifist when i'm drunk, whereas sober me can be pretty edgy at times. drunk me would basically be a pushover - sober me would walk all over my drunken ass.

i have to say that a slightly drunk me is probably pretty amusing and enjoyable to all (including myself) - ideally that nice fuzzy feeling after the first pint or glass of wine. even better if this is outdoors in nice weather, since i'll be extra happy.

but if i get too drunk then i get a bit silly and i also have a remarkable ability to realise that i'm very drunk, and then i get all self-conscious and try to fight it which never works, and then i can get sulky. or horny.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Drunk Onimo throws first punch.
Sober Onimo either beats Drunk Onimo up, reasons with Drunk Onimo and calms him down, or turns and leaves.

Regardless, Sober Onimo claims moral high ground forever more (but deep down knows that Drunk Onimo will always think he's a cunt).

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

drunk me really, really likes to spend all of sober me's money.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Sober self?

Aimless The Unlogged, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

drunk me really, really likes to spend all of sober me's money.

drunk you sounds like drunk me. Drunk me can always operate an ATM.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

It's like getting mugged but in a pleasant, drunk kind of way.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Somehow it doesn't feel like you're spending real money when you're drunk.

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

it's just that money isn't important when you're drunk.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

So that's why I keep buying rounds for you.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

My drunk self is definitely lazier. I never understood the whole angry drunk thing. On the up side, it wouldn't hurt too much. The only times I've got into a fight I've felt kind of drunk anyway, or stoned. I actually couldn't stop laughing the last time I got the shit beat out of me, it was weird.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

booze-induced self-confidence and "charisma"

You're forgetting those of us who only become more quiet and introverted when we drink. In my case when I'm sober I can more convincingly pretend to be a regular person with at least a minimum of social skills.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't get angry drunk, but I can get very sulky indeed after a few beers, to the extent that I'll phase out everything except what's going on in my head and maybe the cute girl across the room. I don't think many Ilxors will have seen me in that mood because I'm usually pretty happy at FAPs, although I know a couple of you have.

Most of the time though Drunk Matt DC is like a bit like the real me, but more so. More chatty, more likely to dance around like a twat at the slightest provocation, definitely more flirtatious but less able to actually flirt properly. Also my eyes glaze over completely and I am incapable of talking without slurring my words even when relatively sober.

Drunk Matt DC is capable of falling asleep pretty much anywhere, as well.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Happy drunk me is great, but sad drunk me is like sober me, only more hopeless. I'd get on fine with happy drunk me, though I'd find him a bit self-obsessed.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 26 August 2004 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I get loud and abnoxious when I'm drunk. The odds are that the drunk me would start the fight (the reason I don't get drunk any more). But I go blind when I drink too much, so I wouldn't know who won until the morning.

SRH (Skrik), Thursday, 26 August 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

five years pass...

Drunk me needs to stfu just a little bit. He does enjoy playing in the snow more than sober me, tho.

what kind of present your naked body (Upt0eleven), Sunday, 10 January 2010 02:01 (sixteen years ago)

it's not drunk mr karen i have to worry about it's stoned mr karen

he has a habit of sitting there with a big beatific smile on his face spouting ridiculous bollocks which sober mr karen then has to go and justify in the morning

sober mr karen cld just stick a gameboy or a synth in his hands. stoned mr karen spends the next 4 hours going 'haha i can make it quack like a duck' ergo sober mr karen wins

Karen Tregaskin, Sunday, 10 January 2010 13:04 (sixteen years ago)

Hey I do that with a synth and I don't even do drugs!

an executive by day and a wild man by night (snoball), Sunday, 10 January 2010 13:30 (sixteen years ago)

ok i'm glad its not just me that does that then

Richard D JAMMs muthafuckas! (Karen Tregaskin), Sunday, 10 January 2010 13:38 (sixteen years ago)

Actually it's more like "get the synth to make farting noises".
