i will be in town on monday, planning on apartment looking and settling, but w/i the week depending on schedules, i would like a welcome to toronto fap (and shop and gallery haunt---if any of those are possible)

anthony, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't take any hostages!

Huck, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

anthony: a gallery haunt you say¿

huck: i booo you.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I'm just saying I don't want any of you guys to get shot.

Huck, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah a gallery haunt

anthony, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

As I mentioned on AIM, I'd love to get together to welcome you here, though family will be in the city from the 1st through 8th and heading off for an evening of beer and such would probably be a very bad idea for a number of reasons.

I'm definitely available after the 8th...maybe even that evening.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

if i wasn't so damn far away i'd be there! awwww, i miss the hometown sometimes. sometimes.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

any others ?

anthony, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi Ant! I'm up for it - and probably Zac as well depending on his reffing schedule.

Incidentally, if you haven't found an apt yet, the site viewit.ca is sort of helpful - at least in scoping out the types of places in neighbourhoods since it has photos and prices.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

This is where all the Toronto people are!

*waves*

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm totally up for it. Tuesday and Thursday nights aren't great. Otherwise my schedule's pretty open. Sorry I couldn't help you out with crash space. Hope that's been worked out for you.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey tantrum, the more the merrier!

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks, Kim!

Any and all are more than welcome to drop me a line. I don't have a blog or a Friendster / MySpace thing, but I did post in the ILM "Introduce Yourselves!" thread:

Introduce Yourselves!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

For some reason reading your introduce yourself bio, Tantrum, I have the feeling I may have met you at some point. Maybe not though. Definitely show up at the FAP, wherever (and whenever) it takes place.

So do you all want to do it right away, or is the 8th okay? That's a Wednesday night. We could wait until friday the 10th. If you all want to do it sooner that's okay too, but thought I'd start throwing dates out (and selfishly leaving it later so I can attend, too.)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be happy to come, Sean. Either the Wednesday or the Friday night would work fine!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I must have missed this thread when it first started ... my schedule is basically wide open. The 8th or 10th would be fine by me too.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

That whole week is craptacular for me. I'll make an effort but I may be stuck at work.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 26 August 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

if i'm in town i will make a cameo.

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 26 August 2004 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

where would you be if you werent in town dyson

anthony, Thursday, 26 August 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

quebec city.

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 26 August 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

So... any developments?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 28 August 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

The fap definitely has to happen, but please not at the Zanzibar. Sorry Anthony.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 29 August 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

you really do hate fun down to the very core, don't you sean.

dyson (dyson), Monday, 30 August 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Zanzibar? Couldn't that get, well, expensive? And won't that scare the girls (i.e. Kim) away?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

First fap I could leave richer from mind you. C'est What or similar works for me.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

C'est What works. Also: Hey Lucy's, Betty's, The Living Well. Basically anywhere that has a decent selection of draft and a sound system that you don't need to scream over...

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

what about squirlies (since i'm probably going to be around)¿ we've never fap'd there.

dyson (dyson), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Im still am not forgiving C'est What for getting that cockfarmer of a bouncer. Though I do congratulate them on realizing he looked like an asshat in a vest. I'll miss Ni[n?]a but rarely went there anyways.
The Zanzibar is just like any other peeler bar. Not a good place to make a first impression. with anyone.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 30 August 2004 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never been to C'est What, strangely enough.
I do like the Squirly's/Gypsy Co-Op area, too.
The Zanzibar is just like any other peeler bar. Not a good place to make a first impression. with anyone.
Especially when you can walk north for ten minutes and go to Brass Rail instead :)

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Monday, 30 August 2004 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't C'est What closed down or something? Or was it just Nia?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 30 August 2004 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i wasnt really being serious about the zanzibar guys
so date time ?

anthony, Monday, 30 August 2004 04:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Nia closed down. Arguement over rent I heard.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 30 August 2004 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Noodles: what happened at C'est What???

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 30 August 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

C'est What was divided into three parts: old restaurant/pub, new restaurant/pub, and the live performance space accessible via Church street (or sometimes through the swinging doors hear the head of the bar). That live performance space (aka Nia) was closed down because of an issue with the rent. My guess is they're going to wall up the space between the C'est What? old section and Nia, and then it'll just be the two restauranty sections. (I'm not as big a fan of the new section...looks a bit too hotel-bar-y but the drinks are still good and there are good memories, too.)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 30 August 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyhow.

Let me propose this then:

C'est What? (67 Front St E, downstairs), Friday Sept 10 @ 7pm for those who want to eat something there. We're generally there for several hours so if you want to show up at 9 we'd probably still be there.

For those who haven't been there before the easiest way to get there if you're coming via subway is taking the Yonge/Spadina line down to Union station, and then heading down Front Street until you cross Yonge...it's about two long blocks east of Yonge on the south side of the street. (Directly across from a restaurant called The Hot House).

More information here: www.cestwhat.com

And yeah, looks like the landlord was going to triple the rent on the Nia side, which is why it's closed.

Anyhow, if this is okay with people I'll change the name of the thread to reflect place, date and time. If not, alternative suggestions soon, please!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 30 August 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

could we do something earlier as well, perhaps tomorrow or the day after ?

anthony, Monday, 30 August 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Friday the 10th at C'est What sounds good - I'd be rolling in after 8 PM. And I'd be up for some kind of do later this week, like Wednesday or Thursday.

I am very intrigued by you folks, and while I've done the meet-people-through-a-message-board thing before, it's usually involved me travelling, so it's kinda nice to do it on home turf. (I'm stumbling distance from C'est What.)

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 30 August 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

so i figure something on thursday, then something on the tenth ?

am i being creepy close ?

anthony, Tuesday, 31 August 2004 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Shameless Self-Promotion: Toronto UK Garage Night And Quasi-FAP This Sunday

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

hey, omg sorry - I don't know about this thursday. I'd like to but these two weeks are suddenly insane at the ol' bank as I'm organizing an entire week of office events for 70 people that has to happen week after next, and have a presentation due next wednesday (for the paper handout, I'm currently planning to copy and paste the technical info into those 'build your own' Red Meat comic strips - dead serious). I know Zac is having troubles too - until next monday anyway as he's got a project deadline. Unless maybe it could be just dinner or something? I mean, we have to eat. You people like indian/thai food? There's a great place near the Eaton Centre (no, not the one in Atrium on Bay).

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Thai and Indian are both great by me.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 2 September 2004 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)

That one in the Atrium always scares me a bit...Indian Flavor? Is it just the FLAVOR? I want real Indian FOOD. Of course, I live right near the Indian Bazaar so I can just walk up the street for that when I want it...yay!

I'm sort of blocked off until next Wednesday, as I have family in town and can't really ditch them. (I think I probably said this already). Maybe weds or thurs I can meet up if I don't have other work due by that point...still have to do my freelance work.

ANTHONY: if you like Asian food you should try a Vietnamese place at the corner of Spadina and St. Andrew (one block north of Dundas) called Pho Hung...it's got these big-ass bowls of soup for cheap, and if you get the seafood pho it's actual seafood, with tentacles and everything, not the pressed stuff you get that's made out of other fish. Definitely worth going to, though I don't know if they use MSG or not.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 2 September 2004 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

haha there's an Indian Flavor on campus. It's so bizarre - I like eating there once every few months to get my fill of glow-in-the-dark post-Indian fast-food product engineering.

Anyway are you asking about tomorrow night?! That's not at all possible for me but the 10th is do-able as far as I know.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 2 September 2004 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Speaking of Asian food, I can try to deliver the U of T State of Chinatown Address next week ...

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 2 September 2004 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah sorry, tomorrow night is totally foolish - I won't even have access to this thread during the day tomorrow. For the record though, the place I meant was Matagali. Only seats about 25 people in the whole place, and it's great.

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 2 September 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

South side of Elm, just west of Bay.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 2 September 2004 03:22 (twenty-one years ago)

That's one of those places I pass by all the time, but have never been to. I keep meaning to go, and there's really no excuse since I live five minutes from it.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 2 September 2004 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, if I can get the time off work at 'store I'll try and come by, hope all youse well.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

BTW, what's the deal with all these planes flying overhead today?

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 3 September 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Air show tomorrow. The ones in formation are called "The Snowbirds".

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 3 September 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i meant the 17th, andy warhols dracula is on the 18th at the cineforum.

i know the cage

anthony, Thursday, 14 October 2004 05:09 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost to Kim: Yes, the 22nd is next week's Friday. Any and all are welcome.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 14 October 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

New Brunswick's pre-eminent new music group.

LARF!

andy warhols dracula is on the 18th at the cineforum.

I had this on vhs at one point. I think we taped over it with backyard wrestling which was more useful to the advancement of the human race.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 15 October 2004 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, so much is going on ... I'm going to add to it: there are loads of wicked gigs coming up in the next few weeks. I am going to
Singapore Sling -- Oct 18
The Delgados -- Oct 23
Do Make Say Think -- Oct 26
Mouse on Mars/Ratatat/Junior Boys -- Oct 27
Black Dice/Animal Collective -- Nov 11

Anyone else planning to go to (any of) these?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 16 October 2004 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I am. Delgados, Do Say Make Think and (probably) Mouse On Mars all look like good shows.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 16 October 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

How much is MoM?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 17 October 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

$15

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 17 October 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be up for MoM / Junior Boys too. $15 is totally reasonable.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Sunday, 17 October 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

im up for black dice but i dont know animal collective.
does anyone want to gallery haunt a week from yesterday ?

anthony, Sunday, 17 October 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be seeing the Delgados :)

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 17 October 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I may well go to Mouse on Mars. Do they have something new out? I didn't even know. K-Os is also playing on the 28th at the Opera House. I don't have a ticket and don't know if they're still available.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 17 October 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

This reminds me: I must listen to the Junior Boys disc in its entirety. I bought it two weeks ago and I'm only 3 tracks into it.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Sunday, 17 October 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmm Delgados.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 17 October 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

There is a new MoM album, but I haven't heard it yet either. I haven't heard all of "Last Exit" either, although I have seen JB's live already (they sound exactly like they do on record).

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 17 October 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I've not heard the new MoM but have heard good things about it. I've seen both them and the Junior Boys live - neither exactly blew my mind but I'm still willing to see MoM (don't really care for seeing the Junior Boys again).

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 18 October 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, is the Ciao Edie thing still go for tomorrow? If I feel any better than I do tonight, there's a good chance that we'll be around. What time is good?

Unfortunately looks like I'm out for the Delgados due to the forgotten prior engagement with ze wine tasting.

Kim (Kim), Friday, 22 October 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

And there is Elevator at the El Mo. And Greenfield Main at Wavelength. Whole lot of exNBs around this weekend.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 22 October 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

All this Toronto talk makes me homesick!

I'm going to be there for all of December - I hope I can meet some of you fine folks for a beverage somewhere. And since the thread title reminded me - does C'est What exist any more? I knew Nia closed, but then someone told me that C'est What was gone too! I feel bad because I told some people I met on a plane to go there. Is there still that big tower-thingy down by the water?

Oh yeah, some friends and I will be having a big-ass party at some point too (the sequel to last year's little shin-dig). You are all of course invited to come join in the shenanigans. I'll start a seperate thread closer to the time with the scoop...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey! I remember those Global Pop parties!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

C'est What still exists, physically. It's not the same anymore sadly. The Shepards Pie and the Baja eggrolls are still wonderfulness.

It now has a bouncer!
Though I have to give them a little credit, he's starting to blend in a bit better.
I don't feel like going into it here but thats the end result.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow Thermo - were you one of the six people that actually came to our nights at the Korean place on Bloor? Hi!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

You're just mad because the bouncer tried to make you sit at the bar last time we FAP'd there.

I think next time we go to C'est What we should make a point of sitting in the OLD section, and ordering multiple orders of beer pie. I like the new section okay, but it still has a whiff of hotel bar to it.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

It was in the basement of some place at Spadina and Harbourd (sp?).
xpost

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

By the way, I never chimed in but I'm going to have to take a pass on tonight's festivities. Life has been tooooo busy, I need some time to catch up at home. Happy Birthday and shit, though!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Holy CRAP Thermo - that was our first event! The place was sPaHa. We were kinda pissed because we couldn't play the music too loud since they had been in trouble with that residence building earlier in the week, and wanted to keep things quiet. Bah!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to pass on tonight, too. I drank WAY too much last night at some physics department thing (unintentional drunkenness, I was only expecting to go out for an hour or so, it turned into seven hours). My internal alarm clock, which is truly a biological marvel, somehow woke me up in time for a meeting this morning that I had completely forgotten about when I went to bed (which I also don't remember doing). So I went in to work for the meeting (which turned out to be rather useless), despite not being sure which of my bodily functions were going to explode first. Then I came back home and slept for two hours. The rest of the day will be spent trying to find my most recent CV, which I have completely misplaced somehow.
Happy Birthday Tantrum!

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 22 October 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I may be able to come tonight if it's not too late to ask for info. When? Where is Ciao Edie? Are you still coming, Kim?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Friday, 22 October 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Ciao Edie is on College street just a few blocks west of Bathurst, on the south side.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 22 October 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I amn't. I am sick like dog. Kind of. I feel hellishly crummy anyway so made the call to be staying in. Have a happy b-day Ian - I'll buy you a drink at the next FAP!

Kim (Kim), Friday, 22 October 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Ya - happy b-day Ian.
What are you sick with Kim? I think I have strep throat or something. I feel like a can of crushed assholes!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 23 October 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I just feel really dazed and dopey - achey, all that fun stuff. I'm not sure about the can of crushed assholes though. Unless you were just expressing an unrealted craving there? uh..

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 23 October 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

unrealted = unrelated

(proof of the dopey)

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 23 October 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, couldn't come out tonight. Happy birthday Tantrum.

If you guys are still planning on going to Mouse On Mars, maybe we should arrange to meet before the show somewhere? Provided tickets are still available.

(Is Thermo Thinwall a new nick for someone familiar? Or are you new? In which case, welcome.)

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 23 October 2004 05:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be guessing Thermo is dyson if it wasn't for the lack of upside-down punctuation.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 23 October 2004 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

*Ahem*
*Rolls up sleeves*
...... ¡

I got tickits for Do Make Say Think & MoM on Friday - I'd imagine there should still be some left. I'd be down for meeting up before MoM.

Hopefully I'll see some of you guys at the Delgados tonight.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 23 October 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be at Delgados too ... anyone else?

How about meeting at Paupers before the MoM gig? I don't know what time the bands start ... typical for Lee's is 9:45-10:00 for the first band (which I'm assuming is Junior Boys, and we'll all want to see them), so how about Paupers at 8 PM?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 23 October 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Where's Paupers?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 23 October 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I believe it's a block or two east of Lee's, also on the south side of Bloor, on a corner (I always forget the exact location, I can pay closer attention on the way to Delgados tonight!).

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 23 October 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

And I just realized about 15 min ago that tonight's Delgados gig is an early one ... doors open at 7 PM. Just a heads up so nobody gets burned (as I almost did).
I'm actually happy about this because now I'll get to see the end of GAME 1.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 23 October 2004 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Thermo and I caught an *amazing* Delgados gig tonight ...
Once more, before Tuesday's gig, I suggest meeting at Paupers beforehand at 8 PM. Ignore my earlier post ... it's 1/2 block WEST of Lee's Palace, at 539 Bloor West.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 24 October 2004 04:34 (twenty-one years ago)

'Twas a great show indeed. It's a shame tho, that there was another show afterwards and they couldn't have played longer.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 25 October 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey guys, haven't been online at all this weekend. The Ciao Edie's b-day warmup thing turned out to be a really quiet thing - just me MCing with the DJ to about 8 people, two of whom also had birthdays. Ended up going back to someone's house with the lot of them for booze and dub reggae. Stayed there until about 5 AM.

The for-really-real birthday get-together was the following night. About a dozen of my nearest and dearest were there, many of whom had never met before, so that was interesting in and of itself. Good times all around.

Thanks for your birthday wishes - let's FAP soon!!!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 25 October 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Once more, before Tuesday's gig
Geez, how many dumb mistakes have I made on this thread? The MoM gig is tomorrow (Wednesday) -- today is the DMST gig. Is anyone going besides me and Thermo?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

shit, forgot. BOO URNS!
I still haven't seen DMST since Sackville in 98.
And I got hockey tomorrow.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

So, confirming that we're meeting tomorrow at 8 at Pauper's?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Nobody cares about hockey anymore, Noodles. It's true, they confirmed it yesterday on the American sports media. Come to DMST instead.

I'm leaving now, band's on at 10 ...

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Sundar ... yes, confirmed. 2nd floor at Paupers. 539 Bloor, just west of Lee's.

I may be there a bit earlier ... perhaps getting something to eat there with another friend. Will update tomorrow ...

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Am running slightly late, should be there in an hour.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Sundar, how's the Ratatat album?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 28 October 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it. There's none of the feedback that they opened and closed with and it doesn't feel as rock as the live set might have. In a weird way, it makes me think of King Crimson - I think it's the guitar tone and the organ sounds + some of the riffs and time changes although it's obviously a bit more spacious, the beats have a bit more groove/dance to them, and it has softer parts and a more sentimental post-rocky vibe at parts. They're really good at manipulating the synth and guitar sounds (e.g. with volume swells) so they blend totally into each other. It has a lot of high and middle end, which is a sound that I could see a lot of people finding grating but I like it. I like the MoM album too.

Dec 1, around noon, there will be a free concert of my compositions at the Music Gallery featuring pro performers, which is a first for me. I know daytime is hard for most people but it would be great if anyone could make it.
