Bernadette Malone (newspaper editor) quoted in Salon:

"People who hate Republicans plan to release swarms of mice in New York City to terrorize delegates to the National Republican Convention. Republican-haters plan on dressing up as RNC volunteers, and giving false directions to little blue hair ladies from Kansas, sending them into the sectors of New York City that are unfit for human habitation. They plan on throwing pies and Lord knows what else at Republican visitors to the city. Prostitutes with AIDS plan to seduce Republican visitors, and discourage the use of condoms, according to liberal journalist Ted Rall.

"New York City is a place renowned for coddling no one -- tourists, babies, old people. And yet, its new mayor, a Boston transplant, plans to coddle these junior terrorists."

New York City: filled with HIV-infected prostitutes and areas "unfit for habitation" (except by blacks, gays, Ivy Leaguers, socialists, the media elite, Puerto Ricans, and Jews)!

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

uh, in the quote at the end who is it that's being refered to as "junior terrorists" - the hookers & pranksters or the republicans?

is that what this article's about?

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope the mice story doesn't take off, though -- the delegates might get here and think it's actually true.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

ted rall is an unfunny jerk

amateur!!st, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

he is, but he's no journalist.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

he's no liberal either, but you can bet fox news will keep that tag (along with reminding their viewers that "liberals" celebrated pat tillman's death and mocked 9/11 widows mourning).

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

$100 for sodomy's a bargain though.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

okay, sorry.

That Ted Rall statement is part of Bernadette's statement, I kind of doubt even he'd be dumb enough to say something like that.

Bernadette's quote, I mean

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Why do Republicans think that they're worth killing?

New York bawdy play deemed unsuitable for Republican delegates
By Timothy Williams
NEW YORK (AP) — The Statue of Liberty. Bloomingdale’s. The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. A stage full of naked guys singing.
Oops!
The city’s tourist bureau has pulled an off-Broadway show called Naked Boys Singing from a list of discounted offerings to visiting Republican delegates, after the Republican National Committee complained it wasn’t suitable.
The gay-themed show, billed as a musical revue that “celebrates the splendours of male nudity in comedy, song and dance,” has received generally good reviews and hasn’t created much of a stir since it began its run six years ago. Its 2,127 performances make it the 10th longest-running off-Broadway show.
So, when NYC & Company placed the production among the theatre offerings for its Come Early, Stay Late program designed to get delegates to spend an extra couple of days in the city, nobody thought much about it.
But this month, when members of the RNC’s Committee on Arrangements began to review the list of offerings, the show’s title caught their eye, and they asked that it be removed from the tourist bureau’s website.
“The Republican Party selected what we felt were offers that would best suit our audience,” RNC spokesman Leonard Alcivar said Wednesday. “We thank the producers for offering their generous discount, and wish them continued success with the show.”
Cristyne Nicholas, president and CEO of NYC & Company, took the blame, saying, “the offers came in so quickly — faster than we could originally handle.”
The show’s producer, Carl White, said the RNC’s decision to drop the show runs counter to the reasons Republicans chose New York to host the convention in the first place.
“It’s very disappointing to us,” said White. “They say they picked us because of our equality, our diversity, our culture.”
In fact, before the show was removed from the site, about a dozen people — presumably delegates — had purchased tickets using the special code offered on the website. Those tickets will be honoured.

that's it, the Log Cabin guys are gonna endorse Kerry now.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

So seriously, why the fuck are the Republicans having their convention in New York and not in Kansas or somewhere that actually fits in with their image?

n.a. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

the reason is about 2 blocks from where I'm sitting right now.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

ew.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

stence have you seen the movie? things happen. crazy things.

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I have not seen it! I had to go home and wait for the surly cable guy ("what, you think all us cable people are LAZY?!?") that afternoon, instead of getting to see it with my co-workers (except the guy who refuses to see it) (he lives in Queens so I don't know what his deal is). But yeah, supposedly H&K live minutes from where a White Castle is, but they go to the suburbs for inexplicable reasons (uh, other than giving the movie a reason to be a movie and not an SNL skit).

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd punch you in the stomach if I weren't so lazy.

Cable Guy (Leee), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

what about the WC that's right in Koreatown?

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, I don't think two people can ride a cheetah.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

...and the Republican visitors will wake up in the morning with WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF AIDS written in lipstick on the bathroom mirror and with their kidney missing!

NYC can be such an evil bitch to a delegate from Provo.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

What change in the number of rodents in NYC is any mass release of rodents actually going to make anyway?
