The Official Reno 911! Thread

This thread is for one of the greatest Comedy Central shows, "Reno 911!". Made up of at least 4 folks from the State, it's their take on "Cops", only with every scene pretty much improvised.

And showing more competent police officers.

This is one of the funniest shows on the tube nowadays.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Thursday, 26 August 2004 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

With short shorts!

Maria D. (Maria D.), Thursday, 26 August 2004 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

sample dialogue:

[Officer Garcia has been shot]
Deputy James Garcia : Oh, God, call for help.
Deputy Trudy Wiegel : Help. Help.
Deputy James Garcia : Use your goddamn radio.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Thursday, 26 August 2004 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

about the short shorts:

Deputy Trudy Wiegel : [discussing Dangle's promotion] There are women who prance around in these flitty, flirty little skirts and show their legs, and they get promoted day two. Poor Jim has been here a long time in those plum smugglers and he's about due.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Thursday, 26 August 2004 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I love how every episode how Wiegel will say something off the wall and one of the other deputies will say "Oh and by the way, Wiegel's completely insane."

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 26 August 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm watching it RIGHT NOW

Maria D. (Maria D.), Thursday, 26 August 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i really enjoy this show - is this really the first thread devoted to it?

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 26 August 2004 01:55 (twenty-one years ago)

hopefully, this show will fare better than "Viva Variety"...

...altho, that show in 1997 was the first time i ever saw Moby doing the Mission of Burma song, which led me to finding out about Mission of Burma, which led me to...

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Thursday, 26 August 2004 01:55 (twenty-one years ago)

yup. first thread that i could find, at least.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Thursday, 26 August 2004 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Dangle is currently playing "Bararacuda" on a red Gibson SG doubleneck...

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Thursday, 26 August 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

"Barracuda" actually, and...

oh fuck it

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Thursday, 26 August 2004 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah it's definitely a bigger hit than viva variety and comedy central seems to like it, it's got a couple more seasons at least i figure. i still don't know if i'll ever forgive them for canning strangers with candy and upright citizens brigade but keeping the man show and strip mall.

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 26 August 2004 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

is this really the first thread devoted to it?

I started one on the Noize Dudes Board the other week.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 26 August 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 26 August 2004 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Ods bodkins! Out damned spot & shit!

Reno 911! Season 1 is on DVD = Comedy Central is very very very happy w/ the show, yes?

Patton Oswalt as a D&D geek immune to Prismatic Spray spells getting maced = fantastic television.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 26 August 2004 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

My influence grows.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 August 2004 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i love this show. especially that recent episode with the phony televangelist coming to the jail with a copy of the da vinci code kept under his arm like a bible.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 26 August 2004 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Verily, you hippie bastard! ;)

Shit, man, I didn't even notice the book! I need to clean the scoogies from my eyes.

Also, the segue from Season 1 to Season 2 = thing of beauty. AND to bring Kenny Rogers back around for some legitimate exposure is classy.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 26 August 2004 02:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i still think my fave bit was Junior & Clementine taking the jewish kid to his first brothel, while his mother videotapes it

"Ain't no way a soccer mom minivan is gunna catch a Crown Vic" (*peels out*)

Nearly everything Trudy did in jail was pretty hysterical-funny.

Eric H: not a troll, with one exception (Eric H.), Sunday, 19 June 2005 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Trudy is outstanding.

kingfish, Friday, 14 August 2009 00:03 (sixteen years ago)

That's a shame. It's the same 10 jokes repeated, but the jokes are damn funny. I'll miss it.

Super Cub, Friday, 14 August 2009 00:05 (sixteen years ago)

wasnt digging the new season as much tbh but yeah i could still sit through any episode

yosemi to me like a valley (tremendoid), Friday, 14 August 2009 02:02 (sixteen years ago)

that sucks. hope they replace it with some of their typically quality, sub-man show filler.

ETERNAL WAR AGAINST THE DICKS IS ALL WE CAN RESPECT (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 14 August 2009 02:06 (sixteen years ago)

i think my fave lols was trudy and dangle busting a halloween party costume contest and immediately acting out the roles of "slutty cop" and "gay cop" in order to win $$.

'dude, hydroponic uterus' (stevie), Saturday, 15 August 2009 18:48 (sixteen years ago)

i loved the show but what I saw post-Miami! didn't seem as strong as before. Post-Simpsons, I'm actually glad when stuff I like doesn't go on for years past its prime. Six seasons is a good run!

da croupier, Saturday, 15 August 2009 19:12 (sixteen years ago)

that's true (tbh all i've seen is the first two seasons, and miami, tho i look forward to seeing the rest)

'dude, hydroponic uterus' (stevie), Saturday, 15 August 2009 22:47 (sixteen years ago)

Sad because it's one of the funniest shows on TV, and it always seemed like the best and most fun job these folks are likely to ever have. Also sad because it's one of a very small number (this and Curb Your Enthusiasm?) of high-quality improvised shows currently airing. There may be half-assed, low-rent improv comedies out there, but I am not aware of them.

Holy Cow Derail (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 16 August 2009 00:15 (sixteen years ago)

Also, as someone involved with improv, I think alot about the mechanics of this show, and I'm consistently impressed with the cast's ability to maintain these characters and this world for as long as they have. Fat kudos, dudes.

Holy Cow Derail (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 16 August 2009 00:18 (sixteen years ago)

i thought the last season was one of the strongest, actually

Gnip Konop (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 16 August 2009 01:11 (sixteen years ago)

ive never seen it but i got s6 at work, is there any point to watching it

'steen suicide (don't drive it) (s1ocki), Sunday, 16 August 2009 01:45 (sixteen years ago)

Nah. I have an unwatched season 6 set myself, but I'm just gonna throw it away now.
