mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 26 August 2004 09:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I entered a competition in the Maidenhead Advertiser, but no luck.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 26 August 2004 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't half the site underwater at the moment?

Ricardo (RickyT), Thursday, 26 August 2004 09:28 (twenty-one years ago)

with any luck yes

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 26 August 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

but this isn't a problem as Aqua, the Waterboys, Fish and the River City People are playing.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 26 August 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

you're giving me a tench, nervous haddock with your carping

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 26 August 2004 09:48 (twenty-one years ago)

oh jeebus.

i remember in the early 90s, when steve wright was in the afternoon on radio 1, rather than radio 2, they did a skit using "when it's raining, it's raining" by bitty mcclean and changed the words to "when it's reading, it's raining"...

i was just saying the other day, that the line-up isn't as bad as i thought it was, but camping at reading is godawful...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 26 August 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

There was not much rain when I went. It was still fucking terrible though.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 26 August 2004 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

this'll be the second time I haven't attended since I started going in 1997. Last time I didn't go my mate met Aphex Twin. I was gutted.

I hope they all have a miserable time.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 26 August 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure they will!

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 26 August 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely outside the music industry no one over the age of 21 actually goes to Reading?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 26 August 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I was going to go to Leeds this weekend for 2 reasons - (1) an artist whom I love very much is gonna play in the Oxfam tent (apparently) and (2) I quite fancy one of the Oxfam organisers who I met last weekend at V, and while I was chatting with her she was playing with her hair well regularly, so it would be rude not to pop up.

However, it's a bit of a trek.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 26 August 2004 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

That was very good, Porkpie. Is it standard angler talk or did you make it up on the spot?

I imagine Morrissey will attract a few over-21s.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 26 August 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Will Morrissey be playing with hair too?

mei (mei), Thursday, 26 August 2004 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I made it up back in 1995, while I was working for the employment service and we were talking fishy

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 26 August 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

50 Cent on directly after Placebo should be... interesting. I give him, what, three minutes?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 26 August 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you got a bulging keep-net of old jokes, Porky?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Does he mean me?

Anyhow, after one day of it, back home. And shall be back in tonight, Franz Ferd onwards. As we are in the cool enough "Guest enclosure" meaning an option on getting beer/food/loo access reasonably, as required, shall take the kids to the final day. Even if only so's Alice can say "I went to Reading Rock Festival when I was four!"

Hmm, very OTM. 20 mins actually, but I do have to say the sound was very bad and the PA kept cutting out. But hey, if you don't like 50 cent, go and see someone else! (Auf der mauer, as we did. Amber decided she liked her purely based on being tall skinny and with ginger curly hair! Alice liked Placebo mostly.)

You know, Glastonbury 2004 got two or three 2000 post threads. Reading gets this one thats up to what, 18 posts now?

Anyhow, highlights on ITV2 at 8:00.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 06:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark, that's because Glastonbury = classic and Reading = dud, obv.

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 07:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Minna and Ethan might be working at a weirdo vegan stall at reading, that's interesting. I don't know how many weirdo vegan stalls there are but go and say hello, and then tell her to email me.

Nellie (nellskies), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, isn't it a bit late for that post Nellie?

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 07:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh. I guess that shows how long it's been since she's emailed me. Sorry Kids.

Nellie (nellskies), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw the wellies and mini-skirts brigade trooping around Reading town centre in the rain. It was quite good. Mind you, things ain't what they used to be. They all looked very clean beneath the dirt.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 08:44 (twenty-one years ago)

we saw some of them drifting back through waterloo yesterday lunchtime, they did mainly look clean (and young, obv.)

mark, competition winners = part of the music industry, probably ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

MC5, Icarus Line, White Stripes & The Bronx = Godhead. Hon. Mention: Read/Yellow (Trail of Dead knockoffs but mighty good), Secret Machines (terrible sound, great band), 80s Matchbox (see Secret Machines). xxx

stevie (stevie), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

the reading lineup sounds awesome!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)
