I've just discovered I can swallow a tablet without water. I'm deliriously happy.

I can hold my breath for 62 seconds too.

Beat that.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

mark 'one minute' c to thread.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

THIS IS NOT A SEX THREAD.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

well that wasn't strictly speaking sex.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

But it could be.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i can stop a girl from having hickups by making a creepy voice.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

just one girl or any girl?

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

And I am very grateful for that.

alix (alix), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I have hyperextended elbows. So certain joint locks don't work on me at all.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

many have been the lucky recipient

ken c (ken c), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I can bend my thumb into a funny shape.

alix (alix), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I can bend my thumb forwards to touch my wrist.
I can sing the tone dial melodies to every phone number I know.
I can solve Rubik's cube.
I can wiggle my ears (almost).

Hanna (Hanna), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost (weird that I just wrote about ear-wiggling)
I can flare my nostrils. I'm good at potato-sack racing. I can't wiggle my ears.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I do the best David Bowie impression in the entire world.

Wooden (Wooden), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I can fart a poo.

Wooden - mine is better.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

sometimes I'm a wee bit psychic

Maria D. (Maria D.), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

we discovered at lunchtime that one of my colleagues wiggles his ears when he eats. How common is this?

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I can fart a poo.

-- Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (sickmouth...), August 27th, 2004.

This is called shitting, isn't it?

Certainly being potty trained IS a skill, though.

Bumfluff, Friday, 27 August 2004 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i can tie a cherry stem into a knot in my mouth

Maria D. (Maria D.), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Very useful that.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Brushing my teeth sometimes makes me throw up. Maybe that doesn't count as a skill.

Hanna (Hanna), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

The cherry stem thing is the sexiest motherfucking thing in all the world.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I can both tie a cherry stem with my tongue and sometimes throw up when I brush my teeth, I think they cancel each other out.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course it is, beats sticking poxy germy fingers down your throat.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I can do a little dance with a bottle balanced on my head.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

OOh, my dad did this thumb thing for years as a party trick, he now has arthritis in the joint at the base of his thumb. A cautionary tale
I myself can repell women like you simply would not believe

lukey (Lukey G), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I can say the alphabet backwards. I started practicing this when some guy said that if you can't remember if K comes before or after L without saying JKL, then you don't really know the alphabet. WTF? Anyway, I know the motherfuckin alphabet.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm stronger than I look. Which still isn't that strong, but still.

n.a. (Nick A.), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

As a child, I toilet-trained myself. No icky potty rubbish for me!

I can, like others, also wiggle my ears and tie a knot in a cherry stem using only my tongue.

marianna lcl, Friday, 27 August 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this cherry stem knot thing a well known trick or something??

Hanna (Hanna), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

twin peaks dude

lukey (Lukey G), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt can do the cherry stalk thing. Tis the secret to a long-lasting relationship.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

We always did it as kids. Don't all kids?

Maria D. (Maria D.), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Tis the secret to a long-lasting relationship

"You can't do the cherry stalked thing! You're dumped!"

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I can do the cherry stalk thing too. Madchen will confirm that I once tied two knots in the same cherry stalk omg wtf

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

!!

marianna lcl, Friday, 27 August 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

so is this a UK/US difference (stalk vs. stem)?

Maria D. (Maria D.), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i can do origami with my penis.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Aren't cherry stems poisonous? Or am I thinking of the pits?

n.a. (Nick A.), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it's ok if you just lick them a bit.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't have any talents or skills, much less hidden ones.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

"i can do origami with my penis."

Yow paper cuts!

de, Friday, 27 August 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i have double jointed thumbs
sprear my toes
can flare my noes
wiggle my ears
tie a cherry stem with my tongue
and masturbate with one hand

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

sprearing toes sounds painful

i flare my "no"s.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I can do this thing with my toes where they kind of do the caterpillar (i.e. like the break dancing move).

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't do the cherry thing and would probably puke trying.

___ (___), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i can move my little toe on my left foot on its own.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I was at this gallery reception the other day and my friend said, "look what I can do!" and she held out her arm and rotated her wrist and said "look my elbow doesn't move! isn't that freaky?" but I think it's just totally normal. I didn't show her that I could do it, too.

xpost
But can you brush your teeth, tripleunderscore?

Maria D. (Maria D.), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I can brush my teeth, Maria, yes. But that is like classifying walking as a skill.

I have noticed I don't really agree with my current toothpaste choice, and the puking thing has been on the cards with that too.

___ (___), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Gah for some reason Tom has this orange flavored toothpaste and it gives me the fear.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

no wonder the toothpaste is making you puke if it's orange flavoured! Ew ew and MEGA ew!

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't actually used it, I'm sticking to spearmint and similar traditionally flavored toothpaste.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

omg that orange flavored toothpaste is the shit. i stole some after trying it at a friends house.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I used a fennel homeopathic toothpaste for a bit - it was truly awful and gag-inducing.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

We have been (seriously) using EXTREME MINT toothpaste (that's really what it's called). It's like brushing your teeth with Altoids.

n.a. (Nick A.), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i used to use toothpaste for spots and when i used to have a bit of light acne with spots around my mouth i would just let the toothpaste drip around my mouth while brushing.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

A true skill, no doubt.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I have oddly flexible hips and can do this uber-yogi thing where you pull both feet up and over your head and roll back so that you're using your feet/ankles as a little pillow thing. I can also stand on one leg with the other leg behind my head, albeit a bit wobbly.

I cannot do the splits or any other uber-yogi tricks.

quincie, Friday, 27 August 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you a stripper?

Maria D. (Maria D.), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, sorry. THIS IS NOT A SEX THREAD.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a little bit psychic.

I can do the best frown - like, cartoonish frown.

And I do an okay impression of Celine Dion.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

who can put their legs right behind their head?

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Friday, 27 August 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i can do origami with my penis
Like this Chris?

Archel (Archel), Friday, 27 August 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

We have been (seriously) using EXTREME MINT toothpaste
reading this too quickly as "We have been (seriously) using EXCREMENT toothpaste"

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 27 August 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I can do a trick with my thumb that involves twisting it round and bending it back way behind the knuckles.

marianna, Friday, 27 August 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I can run my thumb across certain kinds of surfaces and create a very poewrful low-frequency vibration useful for announcing your presence to people on the other side of closed doors and/or frightening people on elevators, etcetera.

I can make the tip of my tongue vibrate very rapidly.

I can sort of purr like a cat.

I have extremely good memory retention with semi-random strings of numbers and letters.

TOMBOT, Friday, 27 August 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I do an excellent impression of an electric hand dryer

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 27 August 2004 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I can touch my nose with my tongue.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 27 August 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I can stick out my tongue and touch my nose

(with my finger)

Maria D. (Maria D.), Friday, 27 August 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I do a very decent Tom Waits impression, though when I've had a beer or two he turns into Tomas Waits, the Spanish impersonsator.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Friday, 27 August 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Can you do it with a Finnish accent, ala Tuomas Waits?

Maria D. (Maria D.), Friday, 27 August 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, but I need to be eating salmon.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Friday, 27 August 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

and taking pictures of yourself eating said salmon with all your friends and a scary professor looking dude.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Friday, 27 August 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i have elbows that hyperextend.
i can peel a banana with my toes.
i can sound exactly like edith ann.

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 27 August 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Great thighs.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 27 August 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I can touch the end of my nose with my tongue, I have quite a long nose.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 27 August 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I could be the new Gene Simmons.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 27 August 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a prehensile spleen.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 27 August 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I am a genius, I keep this hidden.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 27 August 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I am a genus, a distinct taxonomic category.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Friday, 27 August 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I can make the throat-rattle noise that the aliens in Aliens make. Like purring, but scary.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I can make this clicking sound with my wrists, which sounds alright to me but apparently disgusts everyone I show my 'talent' off to.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Friday, 27 August 2004 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I misread the title of the thread as "Hitler: Talents or Skills?"

joseph pot (STINKOR™), Friday, 27 August 2004 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I can pick things up off the floor with my toes. I have to be barefoot to do it.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i can do this. I have quite flexible toes, as mentioned above. Is a talent only a talent if it's useful? Judging by the vast majority of the answers above, the answer is certanly "no"!

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I can do the toe thing to. My feet are amazing.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 28 August 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

hip hip hooray for jel and his amazing feet!

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 28 August 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Sometimes I cough up little white balls of hard stuff. There's a thread on them somewhere, but I can't be bothered to find it.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Saturday, 28 August 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

they might be fur-balls. Are you a cat?

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 28 August 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

um, I was once.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Saturday, 28 August 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

My sister's highschool boyfriend had the freakiest foot talent ever seen. The guy could - in bare feet on a hard floor - sort of bend all his toes over and walk around the room on just his toe "knuckles". Gross.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 28 August 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I can open doors with my feet, but I'm not sure if that's a talented skill.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Saturday, 28 August 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I can wiggle my ears. When I practice a bit, I can wiggle my ears one at a time..

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 28 August 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I *once* did a good impression of Silvester Stallone. I was watching "Driven" (Awful) and it just happened. Never again though.

Craig Gilchrist, Sunday, 29 August 2004 06:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I can turn my right foot right around so its facing the opposite way. And then walk like this. It grosses people out.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 29 August 2004 08:04 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, i can think of stupid talents i have, but reading this thread i kept thinking about the ability to cock one eyebrow. i tried for years to make my face do this ... i think it would be such a useful skill. you can use it to look sarcastic, sexy, extremely intelligent, confused, the list is endless. i wonder if they teach it in acting school.

jewelly (jewelly), Sunday, 29 August 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Is the eyebrow thing hard to do?! I think my face is permanently like that some days. I have the 'evil' brows though - predisposition?

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 29 August 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I never even thought that was unusual. Hell, I'm the second coming of John Belushi with my eyebrows.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 29 August 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

My sister's highschool boyfriend had the freakiest foot talent ever seen. The guy could - in bare feet on a hard floor - sort of bend all his toes over and walk around the room on just his toe "knuckles". Gross.

Oh, I can do that. I'm not sure why it grosses people out, but it always does.

(hurts a bit on a hard surface, though. Much easier on carpet.)

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 29 August 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Kim, my right eyebrow is in a semi-permanent state of raised-ness too. It looks stupid and has given me very uneven forehead wrinkles :(

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 29 August 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I trained myself to raise either eyebrow on its own when I was 10 or so. In front of the mirror. Time well spent.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 29 August 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)
