Who would win Me vs A Dog?

I've often had this discussion with friends, do you reckon people can beat dogs in fights? I am of the opinion I could beat most dogs in a fight (not just the little ones), but some people doubt it, even with mid-sized dogs. Any breeds I should steer clear of to prove the doubters wrong?

just out of curiosity, why would you want to fight a dog?

It started from a point of self-defence. Cos it seems like its mostly young kids and old people that lose when dogs attack.

personally i doubt i'd be able to fight off a small dog, never mind a large one, dogs have strong jaws and big teeth and i'm a whimp. but you're probably heaps stronger and braver than me.

In terms of self-defence, you can best deal with aggresive dogs by AVOIDING a fight. I've been attacked by dogs twice and walked away uninjured both times, but I wouldn't say I beat them. I "body-languaged" a trained Dobermann that I didn't want trouble but would defend myself if I had to (stand straight and still, looking to the side and slightly down), and she stopped coming for me and let me back away; a badly-trained Rottweiler jumped me, but I got a knee into his gut and knocked the wind out of him so I could get away.

People's defensive instincts are unfortunately usually exactly wrong for aggressive dogs -- you want to back away quickly and watch their eyes, but unfortunately that means "I'm a wimp but you should come and try me anyway, you jerk" in dog language -- and when they jump, you want to protect yourself with your arms, but they just get bitten -- a knee to the body works much better.

The key is to bite the dog in the neck, it is the only way to defeat a powerful canine.

When I'm forced to fight a dog (mind you I don't go looking for conflict) I always apply a quick palm strike to its nose. While the animal is still disoriented I follow up with a spinning crescent kick to the animals head. What happens after this point I cannot say, for in truth no dog has yet withstood my initial attack.

(One of the last three posts was actually serious.)

I think winning against a dog depends on how willing you are to fight dirty.

All dogs are basically cowards (why do you think they hunt in packs?) just stand your ground and they'll back down.

I've heard that if you stick your tongue out at an unfriendly dog, it'll realize you're friendly and not bother you.

Don't let chihuahuas' size fool you. There resides REAL evil. Just look into their eyes man. They're little demon dogs.

Apply pressure just above an unfriendly dog's upper lip. Once it realizes you are helping it ward off sneezes it will be your companion for life.
