I was going to call this 'Whatever happened to The Guardian Angels'?, but apparently they're still going.

Anyway, these protectors of the New York subway got loads of publicity in the late 80's, but then seemed to fad away.

I remember them briefly appearing on the London Underground in the early 90's.
In London they were a bit of a joke. There were very few of them, and they were all tiny.

What about in New York? (and other American cities??)

Revive: they're apparently coming to Jersey City.

I'm upset about the recent upswing in crime and the lack of city action, but also wary of these guys. Does anyone have any stories, stats, or anything else about these guys, their effectiveness vs. any negatives they bring, etc?

Apparently, Oakland mayor Ron Dellums just "invited" the GAs to his town. Desperation or failed PR move? GAs, generally, classic or dud?
