I am in Londinium from lunchtime Friday to lunchtime Saturday, interviewing Embrace and seeing them play at Shepherd's Bush Empire on Friday afternoon/evening. I shall probbaly be drinking in the pub next to the venue prior to that but a; will be with a load of mates anyway (who are all Embrace fans, take that as you will) and b; am aware that no one from ILX apart from Jel lives in the vicinity. However, I am leaving London from Waterloo at 12.30pm on Saturday, so does anyone fancy meeting for breakfast at say 10-11am ish around the South Bank? Stevem and I can also have a LIVE ALL FUN ALL THE TIME SUPER DUPER CANON IXUS PHOTO SHOOT-OFF WAR underneath the London Eye or something. Anyone who wants me phone number drop me an email.

x

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

how about we turn this into a Fancy A London Eye and jump on the wheel as well if there's time?

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh my goodness, and here was me complaining that there were no FAPs this week! And now there's loads! Count me in! I am going to a SPACE theme party that evening, but breakfast would be great.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I am scared of heights but I am also one of those fuckers who takes the opportunity to face fears everyb so often, so yeah, I may puke on people through sheer fear, but London Eye sounds cool.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

(Though unfortunately all of this and Pete's birthday precludes the FANCY A GIANT GLOWING ART INSTALLATION THINGY IN DULWICH?!?!? thread that I was going to start about this weekend.)

x-post... no thank you to London Eye. I have been offered several times and am terrified of the thing.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Puking on Londoners = CLASSIC

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Come on Kate! We can both puke in Stevem's hair!

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

And then take piXXors!

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I am in favour of the London Eye in theory, what with wanting to look for lost rivers in the street plan from far up... but my biggest shortcoming isn't even so much my HORRIBLE fear of heights, but the idea of spending an hour in a constrained space ... WITH NO LOO.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm off to Norfolk in the afternoon, but might well be up for this early doors, like.

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

(Though if I turn green and puke from the fear of heights, that would be a good costume for the space party - I am a little green woman! Look!)

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

it doesn't take an hour Kate, more like 20 minutes

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, maybe, then. But is it as good as the GIANT GLOWING BUBBLETENTBALLOON ART INSTALLATION IN DULWICH PARTK?!?!? I think not.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

FuXXoring hell, I nearly went faint when Kate said it was an hour! 20 minutes I can deal with. If Richard McNamara can try and push us both of Blackpool Tower, I can deal with the Loninium Eeeyore.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:17 (twenty-one years ago)

> am aware that no one from ILX apart from Jel lives in the vicinity

*sobs*

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry koogs!

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Blame Matt DC, he informed me this was the case the other night!

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry!

Nick I don't think I will be able to make this as I will be out drinking and dancing until the early hours of Friday but have fun nonetheless.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

As of last week, I can confirm the London Eye takes just under 20 miutes (about 18, I think). It was far better than I thought it would be, and my vertigo-suffering other half only felt uncomfortable right at the very top.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

New wussy complaint... how much does it *cost*? Because 20 minutes doesn't sound like an awful lot of time if it's expensive.

(I mean, after all, we complained that they charged £5 to get into the big glowing art installation thing, but then we ended up spending over two hours in it...)

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

doesn't it speed up (slightly) based on length of queue?

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

£11.50 and look, they've written it up as if it's an aeroplane journey:

"30-minute check-in. Prices GBP11.50 for Adults - other rates shown on the booking page. Three favourite times for 'flying' the Eye are daylight from first flight to dusk, sunset (times shown on the booking page) and evening flights after dark. We recommend that you fly before 11:00 or after 15:30 when the attraction is less crowded and queuing times may be much shorter"

the cockfarmers.

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, it's run by BA innit. But yes they are massive farmers of cock. It's lovely to see London revolving beneath you though. Missus.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

it's actually a nice thing to do. it does seem a bit expensive, and you usually have to queue for a while before you get on, so if there's planes or trains to be caught, make sure you give yourself enough time to do it!

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sorry, but that just sounds like WAAAAYYYYYY too much money for what it is, and how long it is. Yeah, sure, I'd pay £11 for a gig, but that at least would go on for an hour or two.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd prefer to spend £11 on a gig that lasted 45 minutes and was ace, to be honest.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

you're talking about the best view of one of the greatest cities in the world and around a tenner for the privilege, moaners!

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

It's still extortionate. The last time I went up the EMPIRE STATE BUILDING, which really *IS* one of the best views of the best city in the world, it only cost me a fiver. Humph!

(Mind you, this was quite some time ago, before the WTC went whoopsie and all that...)

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, stevem, I am talking about puking in yr hair.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It is totally worth £11 - you should do it. I would brave the hangover and join you but I only went on it a couple of months back.

We flew right over the Eye on the way back from Denmark (first time I've ever flown into London from the East) and it looked magnificent, you could see *everything*.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

...and an AMERICAN fiver at that! Which is only worth about £3! For £3 I could take the tube up to Hampstead and have a decent view of London from Parliament Hill, thank you kindly!

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm upset because if I'd made it home last week, I could have either walked to meet you lot or invited you for breakfast at my place (and miss church).

R.I.M.A. (Barima), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

the view from Parliament Hill is my favourite land view of London, but it can't compare to the Eye...

ANYWAY, i like how Matt DC is so convinced of his Saturday morning hangover - are you buying egg yolks and tobasco sauce in advance?

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I just realised that although £3 would get me *to* Parliament Hill, it would not get me back. Sigh.

And yes! I am with Matt DC in sympathy! There are some days that you just *know* in advance that you are going to have a hangover! I'm guessing perhaps that Sunday will be one of mine. That's why we wanted to go to the giant glowing art installation and float around inside it.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

> I just realised that although £3 would get me *to* Parliament Hill, it would not get me back. Sigh

go anywhere bus pass - £2.50 8)

is there a link for the ever expanding bubble tent that rules from the centre of dulwich anywhere?

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

For a scary second there, I thought the entire website was in Portugeuse or something, but here's the English bit:

http://www.dreamspace-agis.com/webesp/2002.htm

It really is worth it, it's one of the most incredible artworks I've seen in a long, long time. I was going to start a thread about it, but all the available weekends seem to be taken up now.

Pictures and blurbs do *NOT* do it justice. It sounds like a load of hippie rubbish, but it's ASTONISHING in the flesh. Even the soundart! OK, mark this carefully because I will *never* say it again. The soundart bit of it was... it was OK. It was not offensive, and in many ways, it actually heightened the experience. And now I'm done with saying nice things about soundart.

Go see the ever expanding bubbletentballoon that rules the universe from the centre of Dulwich! Go see it as soon as possible! Especially on a sunny day, and especially in the late afternoon/early evening, when the sunlight slants *through* it, making all kinds of crazy pearlescent teriary shadows...

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh! There's a link about how they made it, too - including areal photos, but don't look at it before you go!

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

ha, cheers, that's exactly the thing i thought it was going to be. looked great on the tv a couple of years ago.

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

This picture makes it really kinda hokey, but then again, it really is just like this:

http://www.dreamspace-agis.com/images/verdeni.jpg

It's best when you have kids wandering through it, because it utterly destroys all sense of perspective, and you can't tell if they're normal sized people very far away, or SMALL PEOPLE VERY CLOSE!!!

Go see it!

(When was it on the TV? I don't think it's been in England since I've been living here.)

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm pretty sure this was in Bristol for the Harbour Festival a couple of years ago - if not it was something identical. Soothed my hangover no end.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

that looks great - i can definitely go and check that out, and take photos :) so saturday afternoon for Dulwich Park then?

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm tempted to go and see this giant psychedelic bubble thing before Baran drinks on Sunday - anyone up for it?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Ack, xpost. I could do Saturday afternoon as well, I'm sure.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

It's got its own thread now, so let's take discussion over there:

Maurice Agis - Dreamspace, or "The Giant Glowing Bubbletentballoon That Rules The Universe From The Centre Of Dulwich"

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

breakfast sounds grand.. and then i can go off to primrose hill for s*n*st*r picnic fun! woot!

p.s. i went to the top of the under construction new hospital on warren street the other day the view was pretty good! And it was free! (in fact since it was during work hours i was being PAID to be there! woah!)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

About a month ago I had to go to Swiss Re for meeting about using the Gherkin bar/restaurant for an event I'm trying to put together. Funniest bit was when the events organiser woman pointed out Tower 42 to us with 'ooh, look at Tower 42 over there. Hello down there!' and pretended to wave at them below.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Oooh, I've been asked if I wanna be in the CD:UK audience, but I'm not sure I'll be able to do it and get back to Waterloo, so Londinium Eeyore is probably still on. Do we need to book tickets in advance? Shall we say 10.30am? Meet at 10am ish?

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i can do 10am - the idea of going on the Eye before eating is probably best under the circumstances i.e. no puking in my hair please
