ilx ate my post!

what i said, but briefer:

nike has a new "art of speed" ad collection where they threw money at a bunch of nyc and la video artists and asked them to produce roughly 2-5 min long segments on the theme of "speed". i saw some, they're alright. i suspect you don't want something so corporate whore-ish anyway. if you can afford it (you can't btw)(unless you can), try and get a hold of the collected works of william kentridge. i kinda hate that he's become the ONLY name in south african animation, but that's no slight on the man himself. and his beautiful, moving work. i watched the collected aardman stuff last week and it was very entertaining. and i'm no wallace & gromit nut. everyone should at least go to atomfilms and watch "humdrum".

Pick A Winner
5 Films About Christo & Jeanne-Claude

dean? (deangulberry), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh shit, Dean - I was looking at that Christo thing just yesterday! Hella expensive, though.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it is and I doubt you'd watch them enough. You'd have to bootleg copies of it to make your money back. I still want it though. Fetish, etc.

dean? (deangulberry), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The Way Things Go
The Powers of 10

That was a general "you," by the way. Mostly I meant "I."

dean? (deangulberry), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

No I think it was about me too. it sounds right.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

All of us ;(

dean? (deangulberry), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i downloaded "The Way Things Go" off limewire recently - you should be able to find it on soulseek.

Brothers Quay

AaronHz (AaronHz), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Mike Judge and Don Hertzfeld's animation show. It's at amazon.

Rargh (Rargh), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll second the recomendation for Cat Soup - it's really stunning.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

How about anime? I guess Cat Soup is in that catagory. Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Evangelion (the movie is especially "out there"), Utena, Lain...

Rargh (Rargh), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Would the Brakhage set from Criterion be close enough to animation?

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

does the brakhage set have "the act of seeing with one's own eyes"?

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 04:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

egads. i don't think i could honestly recommend that to anyone.

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 04:17 (twenty-one years ago)

You should tell Criterion that they're doing a poor job then. I'm sure they value your opinion as much as you do.

dean? (deangulberry), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 04:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Cock.

dean? (deangulberry), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 04:32 (twenty-one years ago)

That's a really fantastic film. I'm surprised Amateurist has a problem with it; in fact I could swear we discussed it on some previous thread.

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 04:39 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe here

avant-garde, experimental, surreal film

or here

Stan Brakhage, 1933?2003.
Best of Brakhage

I dunno. not gonna reread 'em all right now.

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 04:40 (twenty-one years ago)

no, i don't have a "problem" with the film as such--it's an impressive film, although it's difficult for me to judge it on such terms; it's just so disturbing that i can't imagine myself recommending it to anyone.

dean, you are a funny guy.

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 04:48 (twenty-one years ago)

(i was referring to the film in my second post, not the dvds. if dean cares to know what i actually meant.)

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 04:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, I'm not the only one wildly and violently overreacting to amateurist's post any more. The baton has been passed.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 05:24 (twenty-one years ago)

post = posts

Eric H. (Eric H.), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 05:25 (twenty-one years ago)

(adam, are you the same adam as was asking about the film of horse tied to pole in the brakhage thread? well, i've put some information there for you. Best of Brakhage )

also, the mixmasters films that go out at stupid times on itv (UK) where they get musicians and animators to do a 10 minute audio visual mix often throws up some good stuff. Run Wrake last week for instance.

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 07:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Wave Twisters

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes I am! Thank you!

There's samples of his work on youtube but the box is a cornucopia of delights.
