I just got an e-mail from Mailer Daemon telling me that my message to [email protected] could not be delivered due to a virus in my message.

So does that mean I have some buggies?

Probably not. More likely, someone who knows you has had their computer infected, and it's sending out viruses claiming they're from you.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Does the Mailer-Daemon message correlate with an actual message you sent to Chris?

Paul Eater (eater), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

NB: it's probably someone who knows both you and him - could well be another ILXor.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Paul, no - I didn't e-mail Chris.

Towelette Pettatucci (Homosexual II), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Then I concur with Caitlin. Not your problem.

Paul Eater (eater), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

it's an inside job!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I keep getting repeated viruses from another ILXor...it's always the same one, so probably not someone who's pulling names out of webcache. I've already sent them an email asking them to check it out but no response.

To be on the safe side, everyone rush out and get antivirus installed now. NOW!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm at work so it's their problem, not mine ;)

Towelette Pettatucci (Homosexual II), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

My inbox has filled up with viruses sent using the names of people on ilx. Someone's just farming the site.

No. It won't help.

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I know I dont have this kind of virus because people were saying they got mail from my 2 addresses Ive used here - both of which are webmail accounts and never used by me.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 11 September 2004 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I checked my outgoing mail and nothing's been sent from my computer. I Think this is a focused harvester. (The last time I had a spambot on my machine AOL shut down my account temporarily.)

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Saturday, 11 September 2004 04:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Today, I also received a virus with an ILXor's address on it. It my case, it was "from" Ned.

caitlin (caitlin), Saturday, 11 September 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Oops. (I think I know which ILXor Sean is talking about as I am similarly plagued.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 September 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I got one in my bulk mail box from "tracerhand"s email addy. had some sort of attachment so I didn't even bother reading it.

joseph pot (STINKOR™), Saturday, 11 September 2004 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually did send that. It was a virus.

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Saturday, 11 September 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I got it too. It was a good virus. Well done!

Does it start with a K?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 12 September 2004 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I like getting the viruses from Ilxors, for the brief moment I see the receiving mail graphic, I feel popular.

Hm, no!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 12 September 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I just got something weird to my gm@!1 -- subject "stuff for sg" (which upon googling appears to be something to do w/ sü!c!dê gurrrls) from another gmail account that I don't know. Scanning the two .doc files (entitled quiz #1 and fam feud questions) don't return known virus threats, and the TO: line includes a person who uses my alma mater's domain, though again, an unfamiliar address. Wha' happened?

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Monday, 13 September 2004 03:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I've not given out my gmail addy, I only use it for ILX and stray other forums (fora?), but the siren song of teh sü!c!dê gurrrls is strong!

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Monday, 13 September 2004 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Or it could be St@rgåtê. Or Spaulding Gray.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Monday, 13 September 2004 03:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I got, like TEN EMAILS from various ILX0rs this morning, and I got all excited and happy, but then realised that every single one of them was virus gubbins. Sigh. Maybe I should despam my email address, but I like random people being able to email me for real.

Danger Whore, over and out (kate), Monday, 13 September 2004 06:48 (twenty-one years ago)
