playing piano in salsa bands

I don't know music theory enough to comment, but salsa piano does tend to be pretty restrictive. It's really just another part of the rhythm section most of the time.

I would think that more adventurous virtuoso salsa pianists like Papo Lucca and Eddie Palmieri would be exceptions, but since I can't talk your language, I'm not entirely sure.
