Fun Things Kingfish Has Learned About Portland So Far...

1. Local Businesses have quite interesting ways of remembering September 11th.

2. The city just paid two hip hop guys to record a "safety rap song" about the local transit line:

Dynamix rap duo Mathias "Mighty Mouse" Mauk of Gresham and Richard "Nurez" Shern of Northeast Portland teamed up to create a MAX safety rap song that is capturing the attention of Portland-area youth. "Chillaxin' on the MAX" communicates important MAX safety messages with hip rap lyrics. The piece was produced in conjunction with TriMet and Sabin Community Development Corporation.

The track features such lyrics as:

Me and my boys chillin' on the MAX and the bus
Lookin' both ways before steppin' dawg that is a must
Dynamix from P.O. we on the safety tip
So we safely get to hot spots and everyplace we hit
Might & Nurez rip it with some background dancers
Hop the MAX to Lloyd Center? Hit me back with an answer
But keep your fare receipt, ticket, pass or a transfer
Feet off the seat or you'll never get a chance to...

And there you have it. More to come.

While a rhyme about riding the bus certainly isn't out of the question, I don't think that's the one.

You're allowed three chickens per household in Portland. (Unless it's five, but I'm pretty sure it's three.) I can think of a handful of houses with chickens around Portland.

I think you're allowed to license a potbelly pig in Portland, Seattle, and other cities, just like a cat or dog.

Damn, the Northwest is just a bunch of hay eatin' crackers! Down lady, let me milk ya, Bessy!
