I've given it some thought, and I think I'm going to vote this year, for the first time ever

Because I think Michael Badnarik deserves my vote more than any candidate before or since. I don't agree with him 100%, but, on the whole, he seems like he'd make a great president.

do you want a medal?

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 13 September 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

welcome to the 21st century.

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 13 September 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

how can he deserve your vote when you don't even deserve your vote?

I kid, I kid.

oops (Oops), Monday, 13 September 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

well, i don't believe in democracy as a viable concept, you see, and I still find voting amongst fools to be a gigantic waste of time. But I really like Badnarik. So maybe just this once I'll take part in this ridiculous process.

Besides, Wifey is intent on voting for Kerry, and my dad is voting for Bush, so, either way, I need to at least cancel out one of THEIR votes.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 13 September 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

My presidential vote:

don't stoop so low, roger. couldn't you just physically harm someone? that'd make you feel better, right?

dean? (deangulberry), Monday, 13 September 2004 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I am forcing myself to refrain from commenting in this thread because I have finally started to gather that Roger is a total gun nut, and I am afraid he might track me down and shoot me.

"In 1997, Badnarik fled the restrictive gun laws enacted by the California legislature...and settled in Texas." Jesus.

Taxi Dancing in the Soft Prison (Ben Boyer), Monday, 13 September 2004 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i just found out today there's an M16 the basement of this house. i feel giddy.

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 13 September 2004 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

we don't even have a basement.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 13 September 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Physically harm someone? Nah. Ain't my style.

I like how anyone who identifies themself as an advocate for the second ammendment is automatically a 'gun nut' - the same knee-jerk prejudice that gave us such colorful terms as 'feminazi'

loser

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 13 September 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

"Nut" is much less broad.

dean? (deangulberry), Monday, 13 September 2004 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Roger - this "presidential candidate"'s website (http://www.badnarik.org) is OBSESSED with the 2nd amendment, as though that's the biggest issue the country needs to worry about right now. It's all this guy can talk about! He IS a GUN NUT!

Incidentally, the site is pretty funny - it's like something you'd find on The Daily Show. "Don't even THINK about taking my guns!" Yep, a gun nut.

Should I call you a "loser" too, to further stoke the fires and keep this thread hopping?

Taxi Dancing in the Soft Prison (Ben Boyer), Monday, 13 September 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

You could, but it would be so untrue, the letters would drip off the page, like in the Simpson's parody of The Prisoner.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 13 September 2004 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

The Pink Pistols raised a chuckle.

Wooden (Wooden), Monday, 13 September 2004 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

FWIW, he's also quite liberal on certain issues

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 13 September 2004 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Badnarik's got some freaky shit in his past. Tax evasion issues or somesuch.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

He seems very liberal on certain issues. Liberal to the extent of, 'let the fuckers do what they want. I don't care, I got me a big ole gun.'

Wooden (Wooden), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

My kinda guy. What's wrong with "Let the fuckers do what they want?" You prefer "Let the fuckers do as I say?"

and btw, tax evasion seals the deal for me

roger adultery (roger adultery), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Roger, do you believe in the privatization of the police?

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

My kinda guy. What's wrong with "Let the fuckers do what they want?" You prefer "Let the fuckers do as I say?"

as if the choice isn't between 'let the fuckers do a little more of what they want' and 'let the fuckers have a few more checks on each other'

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Governments have to be hands-on to some extent. Maybe one day we can dispense with the state, but we're nowhere near reaching that stage in our social evolution.

How do you propose to maintain an infrastructure without taxation? Purely through private investment? If you think that's the answer take a look at the recent history of the rail network in the UK.

Wooden (Wooden), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 00:12 (twenty-one years ago)

at least roger's not voting for bush ... it's been pretty apparent all along that he wasn't gonna vote for kerry.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

(which DOESN'T mean that i don't think that badnarik is crazy. i could stomach harry browne, but badnarik?!?)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

He's even got the word 'bad' in his name. He should become 'Goodnarik' and then people might vote for him.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Where does Badnarik stand on "fat black women in the service industry"? With every other R.A. quote I come across in some other thread on ILX*, I realize that even engaging in these discussions only serves to make me depressed and angry. Before I thought Roger was a sort-of-refreshing devil's adovcate on these boards; now I just think he's a scary, angry person with a well of hostility.

* that gem is on the "what prejudices do we have" thread, I think.

Taxi Dancing in the Soft Prison (Ben Boyer), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Several ILMers have met me. I'm neither scary nor angry. i'm downright cuddly.

It's not my fault you mistook my quest for truth for devil's advocacy.

At least I'm honest. You're depressed and angry because you don't express yourself, and you're threatened by those of us who do.

How many fat black female Wendys employees do you have over your house, in a given month?

roger adultery (roger adultery), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

That vote cancellage thing is creepy.

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

"Let the fuckers do what they want" = "Let the big dogs eat" = "Rah rah the status quo"

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still curious about the police privatization plan of Badnarik's. It seems like a really bad idea, and I was wondering what the thinking was behind it. Badnarik says that it will give police an incentive to solve crime, which seems odd.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, that's i'm wondering about most.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I think child-rearing should be privatized. It would give "parents" an incentive to raise their children to be maximum earners, which benefits everyone!

Also, we could privatize ambulance services completely. Put the customer in control! If I have to dial 911 I want to comfort of knowing that I can choose between several competing offerings.

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

"Criminals are further discouraged when our tax-supported police forces are converted to private ones. For-profit police forces have great incentive to prevent crime, since apprehending criminals is costly and cuts into profits."

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

"How many fat black female Wendys employees do you have over your house, in a given month?"
I'm not even sure what this means -- but it speaks volumes about your view of the world. You've got to love a straw man that is both ignorant and hateful.
I don't need to "express myself" on this thread, Roger - you're doing all of the hard work for me with each comment you post.

Taxi Dancing in the Soft Prison (Ben Boyer), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, instead of just one department of education, we could have as many as the market would bear! Customers could choose which department of education best suits their child's need on a yearly basis. Of course if your neighborhood is deemed a money loser then you're outta luck! But that's life! Maybe you ought to move!

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The second amendment should only protect these:
