The last boring-ass insurance class I had, the teacher kept saying this word. I don't think she knew she had it wrong. It cracked me the fuck up every time she said it. The word: flustrated. Ex:

"When people drive like that, I just...I just get so FLUSTRATED."

Nontoversy:
It's like a controversy, except its level of importance is somewhere between "unimportant" and "not even remotely relevant"

Penciltown:
Just like how Tinseltown refers to Hollywood and is where the rich and famous actors live, Penciltown refers to Burbank, where poor and obscure screenwriters live.

Hahha munted! Yeah Ive heard that Perthism, it made its way over here via Lauren.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 17 September 2004 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

excellent, i'm glad to hear it is relocating to other states

gem (trisk), Friday, 17 September 2004 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't munted a sheepfuxorism?

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 17 September 2004 02:13 (twenty-one years ago)

dunno, but i got it from a friend of mine who is a teacher at a highschool in one of perth's less advantaged areas, who got it from her students. i always thought it was a perthism

gem (trisk), Friday, 17 September 2004 02:14 (twenty-one years ago)

smurfettiquette

the proper observances to be followed when you are the sole attractive female cockteasing a group of desperate males, none of whom you ever intend to have sexual relations with.

used more often than you'd imagine, once we started looking for it....

Darraghmac, Friday, 17 September 2004 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

they say "munter" and "muntered" in scotland. the latter means you're boozed beyond help. the former is something else.

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Friday, 17 September 2004 02:32 (twenty-one years ago)

well i guess it's the same kind of meaning, we use it to mean "fucked" in the "had the bomb/kaput" sense of the word

gem (trisk), Friday, 17 September 2004 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

A munter is an ugly person.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Friday, 17 September 2004 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

And yeah, muntered is drunk. I've also heard people say "you munter" or just "munter" after hurting themselves - but I guess most vaguely profane words get used in that sense.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Friday, 17 September 2004 03:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i would mainly use it to describe an inanimate object that was broken. as in "don't use it, it's munted"

gem (trisk), Friday, 17 September 2004 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I get munted at the pub.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 17 September 2004 03:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I suppose the broken thing is linked to the hurting yourself thing - it seems to be directed at the object that hurts you. So if you are mending a bike and something slips and you cut yourself, you might kick the bike and call it a munter. Or I guess it could be the idea that a drunk person is not working properly. I don't know. Maybe the munter/muntered thing is regional?

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Friday, 17 September 2004 03:19 (twenty-one years ago)

a lot of scottish folks immigrate/have immigrated here, there is quite a big scots community, so it's totally plausible that we got it from there

gem (trisk), Friday, 17 September 2004 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

in the west of ireland, a munter is most definitely an ugly person.

i should know, when i popped out, the doctor slapped my mother instead.

related to peetentials!

sarahel, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 23:10 (fifteen years ago)

though "peetential" can refer both to a place or to a moment in time - e.g. during a band's set there is more peetential than between sets

sarahel, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 23:12 (fifteen years ago)

I have zero recall of that "twong" word upthread.

I'm partial to a friends word "brunder", which is when you skip eating all day and eat breakfast/lunch/dinner all in one go late at night.

Concubine Tree (Trayce), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 00:14 (fifteen years ago)

karates = creeps (as in feelings of dread)

"I don't want to watch Little Mermaid, that squid lady gives me the karates."

This word was coined because the word "creeps" gave my daughter the karates.

Thought 'karates' might take hold when Dog Latin used it a couple of weeks later, but no luck.

"You remound me about that last week"
