ON TV or in the cinema, classic. See also: Sam/Darrin, Higgins/Eliza, Bogart/Bacall, Hepburn/Tracy.

IRL: DUD. Boys can't hack the girl who answers back.

Whilst Sam is obviously subjugated by Darrin - it appears to be her choice (after all as wiotch she could easily get out of it). Bogie Bacall very much a battle of equals. Again with the Tracy / Hepburn clashes it is the conflict which draws them together. In none of these examples though are there really any strong feminist role models (Hepburns fast talking is often to ensnare the man for marriage and then happy families ensues - see Calamity Jane for further expansion on this).

Battle Of The Sexes: what would the first line of attack be?

It's totally classic in movies of course. And it's (almost) always funnier if the girl wins.

In real life I call it the fuck-or-fight mentality.

Boys can't hack the girl who answers back

Are you kidding? That's the whole point, to be snuggly with somebody who can answer back! In which case most men are indeed morons.

Why can't we all just get along?

Madchen, Friday, 16 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually, the problem is when they *stop* answering back.

John Wayne would spank his on-film female counterparts if they misbehaved.

Robert De Niro was a tad excessive in Jackie Brown.
