hey...i have, i'm supposed to be giving a paper tomorrow (i went back to school this fall) and it'd be nice to toss around some ideas with someone who knows something about phenomenology. that's all.

i've read being and time gosh darn it!

cybele (cybele), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I just read George Melnyk's 'Heidegger at Batoche: Postmodernism in Western Canadian Writing'. It wouldn't help you much, unless you want to know about Western Canadian Writing.

i'm dealing with don ihde's attempt at a phenomenology of sound and trying to suggest that he's being a little to husserlian to be quoting heidegger...

cybele (cybele), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 05:09 (twenty-one years ago)

My extensive research has led to the discovery that Heidegger was, and I quote: "a boozy beggar, Who could think you under the table."

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 07:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Throwing Muses took their name from his writing.

that 'drink you under the table' anecdote comes up a couple more times on these threads:

Please learn me about Heidegger.

ryan (ryan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 04:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i wrote my paper, it seemed to go reasonably well and i hope i didn't totally screw with heidegger's ideas...or, if i did, i did it well.

cybele (cybele), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

You should screw with them. ?

As I always told me students, the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy is your best friend. I really can't stress this enough.

(If you're sufficiently clever, you'll get on good terms with the appropriate unviersity library worker who will be able to slip you the magic code that will enable you to have free access to their complete online holdings.)
