How can i persuade my friends to go and see Slint at atp with me

I've investigated the transport links to camber sands from here and can do it for £50 or £60. My only problem is persuading my chums to stump up £120 for a band they've never heard before - how do you suggest i try?

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 06:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Whatever you do, don't actually play them a Slint record.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 07:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Genius Alba, Genius.

___ (___), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 07:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Persuade Foundation to move the event to a time in the year when a prefab chalet may actually provide a modicum of warmth.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Are they male friends? Persuade them to see Peaches instead.

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:24 (twenty-one years ago)

People see bands at ATP? I thought everyone just got pissed and had indiekid sex with one another?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, you could play up the kiddie sex angle.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think that would be very persuasive somehow. Is there a funfair at Camber Sands?

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Not as such. There's a go-kart track, but it never seems to be in operation. And air hockey.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you'll find it hard to justify £120 for air hockey.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I think there's a climbing frame.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:40 (twenty-one years ago)

A DDR machine? I'd be tempted if it was the original DDR mix with Boom Boom Dollar and Butterfly by Smile DK.

Starry (hello chickens), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

They love DDR, not sure they'd go on the strength of that alone though.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The beach is nice, though I'm not sure if there are toilets.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be tempted if it was the original DDR mix

Nah, it's the first euromix. Boo.

I've got a high score on the silent scope machine at camber sands.

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

'm not sure if there are toilets

There is a sea (1 mile out at low tide)

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

And about 2 degrees celsius in December. Anyway, stop pissing in the sea.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:53 (twenty-one years ago)

who else is in the line up? and would yr friends know about them?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I live on the east coast of Scotland, cold weather doesn't faze me. When i checked yesterday there weren't any details of other bands, i'll have to check back and do a bit of armtwisting.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

INDIE KID SEX?!?!?

Dude, I am so there...

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I just saw this on ilm - they are curating and that's all so far.

Its a tough one - 'spiderland' is great but reunions seem to be pretty disastrous if there isn't a new record to go with it.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I've only just figured out that you're talking about the February atp instead of the december one. The Peaches argument won't work then. Maybe it'll be a bit less fucking freezing though.

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Just tell your friends that it'll be the best weekend of their lives.

jellybean (jellybean), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

oh and about the pub that doesn't close till 5am

jellybean (jellybean), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I did email one of them saying that slint were the best band ever bar none which was probably a bit over the top. Perhaps i should do a mass mailout of spiderland.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, "THIS ALBUM SHOULD BE LISTENED TO ON VINYL ONLY", you'll have the Slint Secret Police after you.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I've got it on scratch vinyl and cd.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Scratchy even.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Tell them they can go for soulful walks along the beach whilst you listen to the music...and then promise to go to something with them in return (but don't, obv).

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Slint-traitor!

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Got a maybe from one of my friends, only a couple more to persuade

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

On another note, the US ATP line-up is completely boring this year (so far).

San Carlos, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Can we trade, UK?

sometimes i like to pretend i am very small and warm (ex machina), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

play them a slint record.

cºzen (Cozen), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

ugh indiekid sex

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

You love it.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i imagine sleeping bags and "cup-o-soups". snotty noses.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

"ambient soundscapes"

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you wanking as you write this?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

no, your past does not interest me in that way.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

As Pajo is there maybe some incarnation of Papa M will play too, maybe even the one with the two hott chixx.

As McMahon is there maybe some forcarnation, oh forget it ...

Mooro (Mooro), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
Heads up fellers: tickets for the Forum show have just gone on sale.

NickB (NickB), Monday, 22 November 2004 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn my feeble mind, I thought this was ILM...

NickB (NickB), Monday, 22 November 2004 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Any news on any other dates?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Monday, 22 November 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

No other dates at all as far as I can tell. Bit of a weird one really. Going up from Brighton for it, so if your interested...

NickB (NickB), Monday, 22 November 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Oops, *you're*. I'm demonstrating the full range of my stupidity today.

NickB (NickB), Monday, 22 November 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I knew i'd been too hasty in booking the leave for it, hopefully they'll announce a Scottish date. I'm trying to resist the temptation to travel to Liverpool next Friday to see Jamie Lidell.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 22 November 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

so if your interested...

Quite possibly, how are you getting up? I'd probably catch a train after work at about 6 and then get one of the late trains back - Southern do a £10 unlimited travel ticket between Brighton and Victoria.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck england

Does John Coltrane Dream of a Merry-go-round? (ex machina), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Chew: taking the train up or maybe a mate's shortly about to be co-erced into driving up, in which case there might be a spare chair going in the motor. Still seems way off though, so who knows. Can definitely sort something out though, nearer the time.

Haha John! You fuxxx had your chance to see them 15 years ago - you blew it pal! ;o)

NickB (NickB), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

John Jon.

NickB (NickB), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

The joke being that I was like 8!

Does John Coltrane Dream of a Merry-go-round? (ex machina), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, you're not going to get any sympathy from me for being young, yer bugger. They've gotta be playing some dates elsewhere though surely?

NickB (NickB), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

LISTEN TO ME:

SLINT
HOOVER
BOREDOMS
THROBBING GRISTLE

WHY THEY GO TO THE UK BUT NEVER HERE RECENTLY

Does John Coltrane Dream of a Merry-go-round? (ex machina), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

plus lots of other great bands!

Does John Coltrane Dream of a Merry-go-round? (ex machina), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Car lift would be excellent, let me know.
