Do they make girls more manly, or men more femme? Or both?

I say dud. I want to smell like pipe tobacco, wet leather glover and musk.

ck1's problem is that it just smells like crap.

The only good "unisex" fragrance line IMO is Demeter but the problem is that it is still kind of clearly "boy/girl"--I mean, not too many boys are going to pick up a bottle of unisex cologne that smells like ANGEL FOOD CAKE and think, "Yes, that is me, that is what I smell like".

Actually, that's the weird thing, because I know plenty of girls who wear boy's colognes (I used to wear Pi all the time, for example) or who would pick out the more "manly" scents that Demeter makes (Pipe Tobacco, Gin Martini, Dirt--I think an enterprising individual should put on all three at once btw and smell like they're hungover, every day), but it is not reverse for boys.

I don't like CKOne at all.

I think I smelt Acqua Di Parma once and it was nice. It's very old but was trendy again a few years ago.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

actually, i like CKOne... its light, never overpowering, and smells of citrus. my gf oves it on me too.

of course, give me issey miyake for men, or calvin klein escape anyday, but i do like CKOne.

stevie (stevie), Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never worn cologne. Am I missing out?

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

They are for attracting women.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

And men.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

uh huh. I somehow don't think it matters much in the long run.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

No, you will end up alone.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't really think perfume is essential for either sex, but it's fun, and it's a whole lot better than the cheap stink that gets added to scented deodorants, soaps, shower gels etc.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Alright give me a cologne for men S/D. All my dad ever had was frickin Old Spice, Aqua Velva and English Leather.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

He wore them all at once, of course.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Farenheit.

Perfume / Cologne
Men's Cologne: Classic or Dud?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

OK I read both those threads and I'm not convinced I should start wearing anything, especially after the nearly unanimous DUDs of the second one.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 14 October 2004 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

good ones:

Odeur71 - commes des Garcons
2 - commes des garcons
the original "acqua di Parma"

i wear all of these especially the last one.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 14 October 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I only use Old Spice these days, though I have a bottle of "higher" and a 5 year old bottle of CK1. Girls go ga-ga over Old Spice, English Leather and Bay Rum because it reminds them of pop or their kindly old uncle.

Therefore their defenses are compromised, and trust is established... heh heh...

andy, Thursday, 14 October 2004 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Acqua di parma Lavander is rather lovely too.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 14 October 2004 22:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Girls go ga-ga over Old Spice, English Leather
hmmm, like I said this is readily available stuff to me right now.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 14 October 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I assumed Andy was joking. I've never heard of English Leather, but I can imagine what it's like. What next? Brut 33?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 14 October 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I was not joking, I have a half-full bottle of Old Spice in the cabinet right now. I wore some last night to my cousin's birthday, and the girls were transfixed. English Leather is another manly scent with a huge wooden bottle stopper and a picture of a saddle on the label.

There you go... a chalice of studliness if ever there was one. Only use a little, though.

andy, Thursday, 14 October 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Colour me amazed.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 14 October 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

But surely even you can't class Old Spice as a unisex fragrance??

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 14 October 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Will do. More manly scents to further your agenda.

While we're discussing men's grooming (which we weren't), am I the only styptic pencil user out there? I invariable nick the shit out of myself shaving and these are great when your in a hurry. They congeal the blood into a black scab in like a second.

Barbers can't use them anymore 'cause of the whole "disease" scare...

andy, Thursday, 14 October 2004 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

They congeal the blood into a black scab in like a second

sounds very attractive!

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 14 October 2004 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

"Canoe Cologne by Dana is a blend of citrus, lemon, oakmoss, lavender, and amber...."

Sounds like the potpurri my mom burns at Xmas. This could be effective at Yuletide, to make young ladies think of home and safety... I'll keep it in the dome.

andy, Thursday, 14 October 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Andy's psychological cologne strategy could be a thread in itself.
