Melodrama!

I used up the last of my school-mandated meal plan yesterday. Later that night, I went to the ATM to pick up cash for going to some bar. My account is not working.

Yay.

Can't you borrow money from friends?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 15 October 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

You should probably go to the bank and get it figured out, you know?

I *hate* borrowing money.

My bank is like .... 500 miles away.

so I pretty much depend on having a working ATM card for money

Maybe you should switch to a bank in the town you live in.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 15 October 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe

Or just, you know, call your bank.

Yeah, but isn't this a force majeure situation that would make it acceptable? I hate borrowing money too, but when an ATM swallowed my card on a friday night a couple of years ago, I thought it was okay to borrow from a friend.

Maybe you can get some emergency funding from your Students' Association or something? Or try your local Food Bank? Or rob a gas station?

I think I'm going to whine.

Call your bank, now. This happened to several friends of mine in college due to the bank continually overprocessing late/overdraft fees etc. and the bank was not happy to admit they made a mistake, so it's best to stop it right away. and then once that's sorted buy lots of ramen to live on for the rest of the semester.

I know *WHY* my account stopped working. My bank is merging with another , but my new card hasn't gotten here.

This is happening to me right now, too. I'm broke as a joke. Luckily I have friends who feel sorry for me.

Mandee I like your new name.

Yeah, going to see your students association might be a good idea, I don't know how they work in the US - at one of my unis you could get up to £200 as an emergancy loan, which came in handy a few times.

Dumpster diving isn't a bad idea, actually, I've done it several times myself. It's free and ecological. Find the nearest grocery store and see if you can access their carbage bins. You'll probably have to do with vegetarian food, though, because you rarely find meat out of dumpsters, and meat goes bad way faster than vegetables anyway.

The supermarket in my neighborhood closed because the owner of the chain wanted to expand and couldn't because of NIMBYism. So he just closed the store. Ouch.

Also, I have no bike :(

Oh. What's NIMBYism?

I'm extremely grateful for the help of my best friend this past summer. I have trouble asking for help from anyone, and barely make enough to eat sometimes (If I pay my bills). We always share things when we have them, though, and during one of my worst broke-times in a while, she gave me better food than I'd had in a couple of months.
