Earlier this summer there was discussion of a UK travel website that could give you directions/travel options by all possible transport means and I CANNOT find it in the archive. I'm using the wrong keywords, obviously.

Does ANYONE remember what the hell this site was called, or where the original thread is?

argh!

Catty (Catty), Saturday, 16 October 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh - Catty. That was me.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 16 October 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Alba, you utterly rule my world. I've been searching for that fucking thing for the past 45 minutes!
Every time I seem to bookmark the site, something explodes and then I lose all my bookmarks-n-stuff.

Catty (Catty), Saturday, 16 October 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Not an easy thing to search for. I would have used the keyword 'Penzance', just cause I remember someone mentioning it. But I had it bookmarked.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 16 October 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok where's that one thread what talks about IP maskers for to wreak piratical mischief?

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

If I understood what that meant I'd try to help.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a computer thing, and I've already checked the "Computer stuff" category for a thread dealing specifically with it.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

that was a ronan thread i think.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Ronan goes techno!

Alba (Alba), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I just want to confess that I regularly use the search function to look for my name. I don't get to look at the board very often, and I don't want to miss anything. Does everybody do this?

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 22 October 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

No.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 22 October 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The Ronan tip = no dice.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Friday, 22 October 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Catty, i'd seriously suggest just emailing alba next time, he KNOWS ALL :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 22 October 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't really. I don't know about this IP piracy business.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 22 October 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

That's not stopping from d0\/\/n10@ding things i11ega11y.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Friday, 22 October 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Like I'm letting my good, pure Catty go anywhere NEAR that nasty Alba.

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 22 October 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh - did you mean this one:

this is the thread where we log out and talk about pirating software

Alba (Alba), Friday, 22 October 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

(I didn't really look at it at the time, but I see now that it has stuff about shielding IP addresses)

Alba (Alba), Friday, 22 October 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

no, it was a thread where ronan (or someone) wanted to play a practical joke on someone else. or spam them. something like that.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 22 October 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't search for my names in threads, as it is only three letters.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 22 October 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

How can I spam someone beyond all their wildest nightmares?

this is the thread i was thinking of. nothing about ip concealing though.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 22 October 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i can't believe that was two years ago btw.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 22 October 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Alba you are teh bobm!

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Friday, 22 October 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Cool.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 22 October 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...

Can somebody find that thread I made last year about being the "holiday parental tech support dept"?

kingfish, Thursday, 20 December 2007 05:12 (eighteen years ago)

sandbox thread i believe

gershy, Thursday, 20 December 2007 05:18 (eighteen years ago)

OK, good search samaritans, can you help me in my vanity to unearth:
1. a thread where I and some other person swap praises of the Yamaha DJX keyboard?
2. a thread where I bring up Pitchfork's shitty review of Andrew WK's "I Get Wet" and others respond?

I don't think either of these are probably very good, but they each popped into my head at some point in the last month and I have been unable to retrieve them either on-site or with Google.

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 20 December 2007 05:26 (eighteen years ago)

the first one sounds like quite the lost cause unless it's in the GERSHPOWER BOOKMARKS
for the second one, see when the review was published, then check the archives by month to look for an ILM thread that looks right?

whoa, sandbox has diggs now

kingfish, Thursday, 20 December 2007 05:39 (eighteen years ago)

thank you gershy

kingfish, Thursday, 20 December 2007 05:43 (eighteen years ago)

search startrekman (keyboard obsessive)threads for the yamaha discussion maybe?

gershy, Thursday, 20 December 2007 05:55 (eighteen years ago)

Is there a good reason why we don't just copy over all of the sandbox threads?

The Yellow Kid, Thursday, 20 December 2007 07:03 (eighteen years ago)

two places is twice as nice

jergïns, Thursday, 20 December 2007 08:27 (eighteen years ago)

There's some hate for the Andrew WK review here:
Least Favorite Piece of Music Writing So Far in 2002...

but there's no "doctor casino" so unless you've changed your name it probably isn't that.

onimo, Thursday, 20 December 2007 08:56 (eighteen years ago)

The Andrew WK thing was actually many years after the review was published. So they're probably both lost causes. :( But thanks everybody!

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 20 December 2007 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

iso thread about guy who had his own private set up of those showbiz animatronic band. Think it was on ILM. mainly I just want the youtube links though.

bnw, Friday, 21 December 2007 01:06 (eighteen years ago)

Why can't I ever find the "WDYLL" threads of yesteryear. Are they googleblocked?

Casuistry, Friday, 21 December 2007 01:45 (eighteen years ago)

I go month to month on those. Do a Cntrl + F for "what do you" or "wdyll".

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 21 December 2007 03:11 (eighteen years ago)

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 21 December 2007 03:12 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, but sometimes you are just looking for a month in which a particular poster posted.

Casuistry, Friday, 21 December 2007 04:04 (eighteen years ago)

Pictures of people who look like each other.

There are several of these threads, just search for "separated at birth".

Tuomas, Friday, 21 December 2007 07:41 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks, Tuomas, but I'm looking for a specific thread - it was pretty recent - and I don't think it had "separated at birth".

I had posted two photos of Charles Durning and... that other guy.

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 21 December 2007 14:50 (eighteen years ago)

Here it is - Oh! I Always Get Those Two Mixed Up!

The Yellow Kid, Friday, 21 December 2007 19:40 (eighteen years ago)

Where was the thread where we had to invent a sitcom and broadcaster... there was a particularly funny one about some woman who murders Joan Collins (I think?) in Ikea with an axe.

JTS, Sunday, 23 December 2007 01:10 (eighteen years ago)

sleeve, Sunday, 23 December 2007 03:47 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

I want to take a personal whirlwind tour of all the dumb threads I've started. But, I can't because the search won't work with "Z S". Or will it, somehow? Am I missing something?

Z S, Tuesday, 19 February 2008 04:29 (eighteen years ago)

five months pass...

can someone please track the thread down that was asking to name a movie about some dude with a typewriter and travelling in time, or something.

Ste, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 09:54 (seventeen years ago)

Need to identify this eighties/early nineties film.

Alba, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 10:00 (seventeen years ago)

ta

Ste, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 10:00 (seventeen years ago)

Why were you looking for that thread, do you actually know what movie it is? I still haven't found out.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 12:26 (seventeen years ago)

i wanted to give it another stab, sadly after about 40 minutes of googling I still came up with nothing.

Ste, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 12:28 (seventeen years ago)

If anyone can find the bachelor party/"Hot Chocolate" incident, I'd thank you.

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 14:50 (seventeen years ago)

one year passes...

I am trying to do a text search for The Wire in this thread: Unopened Boxsets that I liked the look of from the Pilot: The ILX Television 51 Show Countdown Extravaganza!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I'm trying:

title:"Unopened Boxset" AND text:wire

Except I'm getting zero results. Where am I going wrong?

Leee, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 05:44 (sixteen years ago)

ctrl + f "the wire" ???

k3vin k., Wednesday, 9 December 2009 05:45 (sixteen years ago)

i assume it's because "unopened boxset" won't turn up anything since in the thread titles it's "unopened boxsets"

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 05:46 (sixteen years ago)

and yes k3v otm

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 05:47 (sixteen years ago)

Well, my search is a bit more nuanced than that -- I want to find a particular post that contains the complete results of the poll -- preferably without loading the entire thread.

Leee, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 06:02 (sixteen years ago)

And my code above is a typo, I've tried searching for "Unopened Boxsets" plural.

Leee, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 06:03 (sixteen years ago)

tell me more about this post. otherwise aint it Unopened Boxsets that I liked the look of from the Pilot: The ILX Television 51 Show Countdown Extravaganza!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ?

k3vin k., Wednesday, 9 December 2009 06:05 (sixteen years ago)

only post in that thread w/ all the results

k3vin k., Wednesday, 9 December 2009 06:06 (sixteen years ago)

Yes, that's the one! Thanks.
