I stayed up unitl about half four in the morning to watch it when it was on. It sucked.
The original is ace though.
Blanche: You wouldn't be able to do these awful things to me if I weren't still in this chair. Jane: But cha AAH, Blanche, ya AAH in that chair!

I wonder if he's open to Madonna and Courtney.

Ten years ago:
It didn't just have one Redgrave, it had two of them. But I can't remember which ones.
Ummmmm, Lynn and Vanessa? I actually thought that remake was kind of interesting, for a TV movie. I liked the Bad Seed remake with Lynn, too.

The Redgraves remake has its moments:

If my kid sees this clip, it will play over and over. She actually watched the film at two then at three, it captured her attention so much she kept wanting to watch it up close, like she'd watch Yo Gaba Gaba. It's not something I tell anyone with kids.

We watched this movie on Saturday night, what an unsettling movie. As my partner observed, it contains a "Chekov's every object in the movie"
― .oO (silby), Monday, 30 October 2017 16:02 (eight years ago)
Yeah, it's a pretty horrific experience. Even the side characters are weird and fucked up. Daniel.

I watched it for the first time since the Clinton administration and I realized: this movie is turgidly paced shit.

But Aldrich fills that overlength with lotsa good stuff, like Bette looking around for ppl to recognize her.
It's a good metaphor for late middle age -- "sorry grandma we don't know you"

Yup, not camp but basically a documentary on aging, as Morbs said.
― Pauline Male (Eric H.), Thursday, 31 October 2019 00:39 (six years ago)
Saw on a big screen and Alfred is right that it’s too slow - the whole opening sequence showing juvenile Baby Jane’s act could’ve been edited way down, for one.
Yes it has good stuff on aging. I‘d say it’s also about narcissism, which is now more relevant than ever.
I was initially confused by the Victor Buono character. I couldn’t tell if he (the character) was putting on an English accent (why?) or if it was supposed to be genuine, given that his mom in the film was unambiguously English. So apparently Peter Lawford was originally cast in Buono’s role, perhaps Buono’s come-and-go accent was a relic of that.
