Gale Deslongchamps, Thursday, 22 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Vic, Thursday, 22 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gah! Did you ever see the remake with the Redgraves? It was the most pointless thing ever (hehehe the Redgrave who played Baby Jane looked like Tim Curry in IT)

jamesmichaelward, Thursday, 22 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No I didn't see the one with a Redgrave in it. I saw the original. It reminded me in a small way of Misery. Gale

Gale Deslongchamps, Thursday, 22 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It didn't just have one Redgrave, it had two of them. But I can't remember which ones.

I stayed up unitl about half four in the morning to watch it when it was on. It sucked.

The original is ace though.

Blanche: You wouldn't be able to do these awful things to me if I weren't still in this chair. Jane: But cha AAH, Blanche, ya AAH in that chair!

Did you ever see David LaChapelle's Madonna/Courtney Whatever Happened to Baby Jane spoof MTV spot? It was so mean, the Courtney was enormous. Hysterical, though. Courtney to Madonna: "So why dontcha go reinvent yourself or something!"

Arthur, Thursday, 22 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gail I tried to respond to that email you sent me but te mailer demon sent it back to me said your address had permanent fatal errors

Vic, Thursday, 22 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've still got that MTV promo on a tape somewhere. The Madonna equivalent was hilarious, a perfect Madge/Davis fusion.

Waletr Hill to write, direct remake. Really?

I wonder if he's open to Madonna and Courtney.

Ummmmm, Lynn and Vanessa? I actually thought that remake was kind of interesting, for a TV movie. I liked the Bad Seed remake with Lynn, too.

The Redgraves remake has its moments:

Re-watched the movie again last night and, KJB is right, it's not camp.

If my kid sees this clip, it will play over and over. She actually watched the film at two then at three, it captured her attention so much she kept wanting to watch it up close, like she'd watch Yo Gaba Gaba. It's not something I tell anyone with kids.

We watched this movie on Saturday night, what an unsettling movie. As my partner observed, it contains a "Chekov's every object in the movie"

.oO (silby), Monday, 30 October 2017 16:02 (eight years ago)

Yeah, it's a pretty horrific experience. Even the side characters are weird and fucked up. Daniel.

I watched it for the first time since the Clinton administration and I realized: this movie is turgidly paced shit.

It is definitely about 45 minutes too long.

I Never Promised You A Hose Harden (Eric H.), Monday, 11 June 2018 00:22 (seven years ago)

Not that that's what I remember about it whenever I happen to not be in the middle of watching it.

I Never Promised You A Hose Harden (Eric H.), Monday, 11 June 2018 00:23 (seven years ago)

But Aldrich fills that overlength with lotsa good stuff, like Bette looking around for ppl to recognize her.

It's a good metaphor for late middle age -- "sorry grandma we don't know you"

Remind me to send you one of those Baby Jane dolls for Christmas.

*reverse mirror shot*

Yup, not camp but basically a documentary on aging, as Morbs said.

Saw on a big screen and Alfred is right that it’s too slow - the whole opening sequence showing juvenile Baby Jane’s act could’ve been edited way down, for one.

Yes it has good stuff on aging. I‘d say it’s also about narcissism, which is now more relevant than ever.

I was initially confused by the Victor Buono character. I couldn’t tell if he (the character) was putting on an English accent (why?) or if it was supposed to be genuine, given that his mom in the film was unambiguously English. So apparently Peter Lawford was originally cast in Buono’s role, perhaps Buono’s come-and-go accent was a relic of that.
