How do I find out if someone has a blog?

Without actually asking them? Is it just a hit-and-miss case of trying to google key words and hope you stumble across it? Or is there a way of searching membership lists? And what are the different blogs to look through (I've heard of Live Journal and Blogspot, but don't know any others).

I'm pretty certain this girl will have an online journal, but where does one start in trying to find it?

Help me be a creepy internet detective!! (Don't worry, I'm not curious about checking any ILXers' diaries, this is something quite different and quite harmless!)

Do these things even show up on google?

Start a conversation thus:

'Do you hate blogs as much as I do? Pathetic little pretend websites, run by overweight fuglies with no life and no friends and no job, and nothing to do but tell complete strangers all about their size and/or capaciousness of their genitals, and how depressed they are and how much they want to die and/or have sex with Marilyn Manson. Bloggers should all be burnt to death.'

If you get to the end of this paragraph, they don't have a blog.

I have a blog on my own server using a popular freeware blog program. I do not belong to any membership lists other than perhaps "dork".

Hahah Adam =)

Many LJs are not googleable as you can elect to unindex them against web crawlers etc (mine is). Dunno about other blogs. I dont think there's any kinds of lists or directories though.

yes I do CJ, but as I keep telling you, I'm not a girl.

If you think she has a livejournal, search by "interest" with the interests/favorite music/books/etc that she lists on her Friendster profile (if she has one). If this doesn't work, google her friendster interests along with her first name.

And honestly, if she's not on Friendster then she probably doesn't have a blog.

I'm not (actively) on Friendster, but I have one. So there.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 12 November 2004 08:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not on Friendster either, so ner.

Matt (Matt), Friday, 12 November 2004 08:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Dammit.

I'd figured that Friendser=internet devotee
vs
Blog=so very devoted to the internet, thus Friendster is an obvious next step.

I'd suspected there were exceptions, though.

Haha Blog = devoted to oneself and convinced that people find oneself interesting. livejournal = devoted to telling people about your pain.

Matt (Matt), Friday, 12 November 2004 08:15 (twenty-one years ago)

hah.

Friendser=devoted to impressing people you know

livejournal=devoted to impressing people you know and the people they know (with your pain)

blog= devoted to impressing everyone (with your "incisive social commentary")

Quicker way:

Ask them "Do people actually read blogs?"

The answer should tell you.

I have a blog *and* a livejournal - what does that make me?

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 12 November 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

An MRI usually can tell.

peepee (peepee), Friday, 12 November 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry Caitlin, didn't mean to offend. I blog myself, and most of my mates are on LJ, it's our standard jokes at each other's expense.

Matt (Matt), Friday, 12 November 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

(I mostly use my Livejournal for recounting funny conversations from work that I don't want to post in public)

(such as the time my co-worker decided he *had* to cut a 486 chip in half "to see if it's got a gooey centre! It might have jam in the middle!")
