If there is, I'd be curious to find out.

What is the difference between gmail and yahoomail now?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 15 November 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Either way, I can't access them at work.

Michael White (Hereward), Monday, 15 November 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Really? My yahoo account isn't blocked at all by Websense, but all of JaX0n's snot pictures, for example, are.

I use gmail behind the school's websense every day. Must be your particular filters.

I can't access GMail because of Active X restrictions. I took to having my GMail fwded to another account I can access @ work. If GMail is your only account, though, then you're up the creek.

it's called "making friends with the IT team"

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 15 November 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

can you get to google.com itself?

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 15 November 2004 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

www.accessgmail.com will let you in. Log in using the panel on the left, not the right.

stet (stet), Monday, 15 November 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Works like a charm! Thanks!

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 15 November 2004 22:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Excellent. Thanks.

HAHA TAKE THAT CORPORATE WEB RESTRICTING FUXORS!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Yikes. No go for me. I even tried to log-in through the googlecache.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

You lose.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Not really, it just means I have to use my cellphone.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Verizon wins.

I wonder why they would block gmail and not other webmail....because of the 1gb storage?

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

As David R. says upthread, it has to deal with the Active X that gmail requires. FYI I'm running Mozilla Firefox 0.9.2

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I have 2GB on my yahoo account.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

...and there's no problem there.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Is there anything like this for yahoo mail?

Michael White (Hereward), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't have gmail, but I assumed Yahoo!mail was the same. Is it not? What is the difference?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I access gmail with firefox, so it must not require activex. or maybe firefox just disables it. can't tell.

i think sam hit the nail on the head, it is up to the network admin. which filters are implemented in websense.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I have trouble with gmail in that I log in and the bar at the bottom says 'Done' but nothing shows on the screen. I get round it by refreshing, but it's dead annoying having to do it all the time.

> Is there anything like this for yahoo mail?

i had *some* success with bookmarking the page after the login page and then using that (because some firewalls only block the main mail server url and not uk.f517.mail.yahoo.com or whatever).
