Looking for a place in London? Wanna rent my room?

No joke. As many of you Londoners know, I'm heading off travelling, and am leaving my place next week for good. It's a 2-bedroom flat in Highbury (N5), and it's a pretty nice place. My flatmate (another Canadian named Gord) owns it, and is moving out the same time as me to go back to Canada. He's going to keep renting it, though.

Anyway, a friend of mine (ex-gf, actually, but we're good friends) has rented Gord's room, but she's having trouble finding someone for my room in short notice - December 4th and onwards. Anyone interested? Rent would be about £550 per month. It's a small room, but you would have your very own, brand-spakin' new swishy bathroom (Gord's room has an ensuite). My room would come with a double bed and a big wardrobe, and an ikea desk (if you want it).

ummm, spankin' new bathroom...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I have been to this flat. It is proper plush.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

It is indeed. Props also for the big dining table and coffee table.

robster (robster), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, all that nice furniture stays. Big TV too. And a modenr kitchen complete with stainless steel cookware...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Mm, tempting. Unfortunately the rent is more than Matt and I pay between us for our entire flat, so...

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmm... BIG TV.

(unfortunately Liz & I are quite happy in our current place. We may burgle the telly though)

robster (robster), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it's not that cheap, but Archel how did you ever manage to find a 2 bedroom place in London for less than that total? That's quite a deal. I looked for ages and I swear £500 a month seemed pretty reasonable in comparison to what I would see in ads or with estate agents. I couldn't even find a decent one-bedroom anywhere central that was less than say 600-700 a month...

(granted I have rather high standards for my living space)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

It's Hove. Still sounds 'cheap' to me.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh god no, we don't live in London. It is still quite cheap, yes. Also tiny and freezing but hey you can't have anything everything...

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

ah - sorry, i assumed you were in london...
yeah, i wanted to live as central as possible since i'm a london newbie.

FYI the flat is about a 5 minute walk to the arsenal tube, or 10-15 mins to the highbury & islington tube. 4 and 19 buses go right to the top of my street, and a whole bunch of buses go to highbury corner (4, 19, 30, 43, 271). there's a nice row of shops nearby with an outstanding butcher and one of the best cheesemongers in london (la fromagerie). and the highbury fields park is just at the top of my street - lovely in summertime...

Rob does this mean we have less than two weeks of you left?! I hope you're coming out for a beer at some point in that time.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

rob's back in jan for a bit though no?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i leave on dec 2nd for canada, but i'm around london for most of january before heading off to asia. i'll have a proper leaving FAP then..

x-post

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Bah. I will be looking around March I reckon (helping a friend out by renting a room Jan-March in Seven Oaks). Sounds nice, but I suppose I really need to wait and know what money I have and stuff.

Least sounds like I can make Rob's leaving thing. Saves me having an arrival FAP. More people will turn up to his, I figure!

And if anyone wants anything cheaper and scruffier, then there's a double room going in my place. £362.50 pcm, sharing with three others. Although not in the same league as Rob's it's a nice flat, really quite big and smack in the centre of Crouch End. We'd need you to move in by Dec. 1st though.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

while we're at it, there's a large double room in my flat, for £520/month, sharing with just me. it's a nice modern flat 5 minutes from finchley road tube. it's available for six months from, err, now (the person who'd agreed to move in screwed us over).

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

(sorry rob, don't want to start competing!).

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i wish i can afford nice places to live.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Geez, this thread is making me think of how important it is for me to get a new job in London and move out ASAP - no success yet tho' :-(.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

just move here first and find a job later!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

No money, mo' problems.

(A bitch ain't one)

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Move in with yer neighbour ;)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

do it BARMS! i moved here with no job! (took me 6 months to find a decent once and it impoverished me immensely, but do it anyway!)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Move in with yer neighbour ;)

Considering the family live in a flat building on the South Bank, that's a shitload of neighbours.
